Why, thank you. It wasn't easy. See you at the ceremony?

Congratulations on finishing!

I think most of the other Google products have a bit more staying power than Google Wave. They have an obvious use, whereas I think a lot of people weren't sure what Wave was about.

It's a valid concern still - all those documents you thought were being held in perpetuity could suddenly be taken off the web forever. But that all comes into the T&Cs, and means you just have to remember to do backing up ;)

Now if there was only a way to use all these wonderful web 2.0 things without having to sign up for yet another account!

I agree, a google account isn't that useful for institutional use (although an institution can pay for institutional gmail use).

I've been using gmail since December 2004 and I've never really had any problems with it. I do take your point about not being sure that the service won't disappear (or for whatever reason I might lose my account at any time) though, and as a result I do back up anything that's online (either on google accounts or other similar online services).

Constant vigilance, as somebody once said...

Google accounts useful for cam23 and non work related matter but since university lookup links to the hermes accounts I cant see that googlemail is that useful for institutional use

I ignored my Aberystwyth password change (required annually) in April, and didn't get a new password until late July. It was nice not feeling that I had to check the various functions associated with that account.

Hi! Don't despair! I know it's depressing to feel one is falling behind but please don't give up. None of the Things should take up too much time - if you are feeling bogged down with one of them cut it short and write a brief post. We should all be able to carry out quick evaluations of web stuff ...
I am not enamoured of all of the Things but I do think it's important that we library folk have at least had a go at using them, whatever our level of employment, and as you can see from the other blogs, we differ in how useful we think they will be.
You can do it.

Hmm. Checking out slides for presentations on topics which might be relevant to your area of library work? Might stimulate some new thinking about improving things....? Just a thought.

I'm with Suzan on that one - after a paragraph or two my eyes glazed over and my mind shut!

Worth keeping going with the 'things' though, you'll probably find that with some of them they just 'click', which makes up for those that are hard work.

Did not make it past the first few sentances of the article and I have been a cataloguer for years. Life is too short.

2010-07-15T08:00:36.351-07:00

Internet Explorer and Google Reader don't work together as far as I know. For example, if you are using IE and click on an RSS feed link, IE will only add that link to its own 'favourites' feed link and won't give you the option to add it to Google. That was the case with IE 7 anyway. Don't know about version 8...

Once you have the feed address (right-click the orange RSS button where it says 'subscribe to XXXs photostream', select 'Copy Link Location' or similar) just go into igoogle, click "add stuff" (top right) then "add feed or gadget" (bottom left) and paste in the URL.

It might take a bit of time to load.

Hi - There's no requirement to put your photo up on Twitter (or any other site) so please don't feel obliged to do so. Hope you found some useful sources of info for your course.

I was thinking I agreed with you but then I checked http://whispersinthewilderness.wordpress.com/ and noticed some useful applications for libraries of the calendar. Worth reading.

My efforts on the course aren't likely to make you jealous. I don't really talk about it, but if you want to meet up I've suggested the University Centre after work one night. The Doodle Poll will tell us which day (the most hits = the day we meet so hopefully there will be a clear winner)

Hi! I'm an Aber person--but I've only just begun (should really be working on my first assignment right this minute, oops). *waves* How far into the course are you? (At the risk of making me very jealous...)

Love the pic, and found your comments very interesting.

I've had the same problem with screenshots (see my blog) so I will try again using your advice to use Paint.
