Hi Amy! I just found your site 10 minutes ago and I already love your adventures! I'm a 55 year old PhD Candidate, Fulbright scholar currently in Zambia. I have an apartment in Lusaka, but right now I'm in Katete, Eastern Province, until August. I go home (sniffle sniffle) at the end of August. Anyway, I'm a Christian too, and in the process of adopting a 7 yr old Zambian girl., which is how I came to find this blog! I just wanted to say thank you so much for posting such good information. I will definitely email your friend. Haha! Everyone but me knew I would come home with a child. God didn't tell me until after I got here. Keep up the good work, and I'll keep reading! My website, btw, is www.allthingschewa.com. Sincerely, Debbie Brown

If you aren't going to use it within a week you might want to put it in the fridge. I wouldn't heat it, but maybe stir the dose into a warm drink....Try it and let me know how it works.

I know what you mean. Sometimes I feel that relief when my chicks are all gathered in bed at night, asleep. I used to go from room to room just touching a little hand or foot.

Also, gorgeous picture of all of you! I think some highlights are:
Jessica's beautiful blazer
Tall guy - Tim? - on the left
Jennifer's oh-so-cool glasses
All the blue
HAIR!!!
You've a lovely family. Hugs to all.

No, 5 minutes isn't long at all. I'm sorry for your loss.
Hugs,

Such good words here. I have felt the same struggle, and know plenty of others who have as well! So important for missionaries to take proper and regular rests in order to effectively carry out their calling and ministry. Thank you for this! Glad to have you linking up with Five Minute Friday!

So awesome to find a blogger by the same name! And one with a love for Africa. I am an MK - grew up in the amazing country of Brazil, but would love to visit Africa some day. I have always had a desire to go there.

I love your post. So many people in ministry forget how important it is to take a break and refresh! They work until they burn out. Like you said - even Jesus took breaks!!

I hope you are blessed with a break today - whether a few minutes, an hour, or more!! Refresh yourself!

Blessings - stopping by from FMF

Thank you Amy for helping to remind me to not focus on earthly material things. I forget that too. Though I don't tell you enough your blog has had a huge impact in my life. Keep us posted on real Africa and real missionaries!!

Thank you, Amy, for an authentic peek into your very real life as a missionary in Africa. I pray Father showers you with precious gifts of His presence on a daily basis and you are filled with unspeakable JOY in His delight in you!

Hope everyone will pitch in to help the Morrows. We visited there and saw how all the resources were directed to the health, welfare and education of the kids. Well, almost. Amy was overjoyed to get herself a pair of shoes from Payless.

And His plans always are so much better - even when it looks like a mess to begin with and I'm still trying to figure out how to push His Plans into my time slot! When will I ever learn that His ways aren't ours? Have a wonderful week ahead, Amy!

These are really good points. I've tried to do better in recent months in working hard and then completely shutting off. I have a blog post about this rattling around in my head. One of these days, when I can fit it in a work day, I'll get it written.

2015-02-28T05:16:50.241+02:00

I just read your 'exactly two years ago' 'Snake bites can be good for us' post, with its 'all things work together for good' message, and it certainly applies. You even mentioned just getting over malaria.
I use Evernote for my projects and most of my to-do list and information, research files (dump?), and paper for my agenda and some of my to-do list.
I mention this, because I also use the Pomodoro Technique when working to keep focused. Recently I started using it for everything, which seemed great, until I realized that my stress level had been creeping up unnoticed, giving me sore muscles, disrupted sleep (intense dreams!), and muddled thinking. I think this also lowers my immune system as well- can't be sure, but I had an uncharacteristic reaction to spring pollen recently - and I just haven't felt well.
Sorry for so much information, but you asked, and I think productivity will be self-defeating if it doesn't have built-in off-really off - time. And I don't mean sick in bed off time!

What a darling smile!

Wonderful! I am so happy to see you writing again and what a good day to share! Haha, I thought Dad looked a bit grumpy in that last picture; that'll do it!
