Villanova Ranked No. 42 in Latest Learfield Directors' Cup Standings

Updated standings for the Learfield Directors' Cup were released this week following the conclusion of the men's and women's basketball seasons. Fresh off winning its second NCAA men's basketball title in the last three seasons, and coming off strong NCAA performances by the women's basketball and indoor track & field teams, Villanova surged to No. 42 in the latest rankings. During the fall sports season, the Wildcats earned Directors' Cup points for a 12th place finish by women's cross country at the NCAA Championships. Villanova's current No. 42 ranking is the highest it has been at this point in the academic year since 2010.

Villanova Athletics kicks off 50th year of Women in Sports This Weekend

The 2018 season marks 50 years of women sports at Villanova University. The Wildcats' first women sport was tennis, which played their first match in the faTo kick off the 50th year celebration, Villanova Athletics recognized Dr. Robert Langran, the first women's tennis head coach, during the women's basketball home game against Seton Hall today.

The academic achievements of Villanova student-athletes continue to surpass even their own lofty goals for elite performance in the classroom, with a report from the Fall 2017 semester highlighting record levels of success among nearly 600 student-athletes. If there is a central theme to the Wildcats level of academic achievement, it is the across-the-board success continually demonstrated by the 24 varsity sports programs.
