Scraps and Such!

Updated: 2018-04-21T12:19:31.128-04:00

Now that my driveway is finally cleared of 4" of ice on top of 4" of snow, I can relax and get some sewing done. Before the ugly storm Stella of last week I was able to work on a few things. I actually finished a UFO from a few years ago.Sorry to say, I don't know how long it's been around. I don't even remember making the flimsy.😵It's now in my etsy shop along with a few new project bags and bowls.I did make something for myself for a change. For Christmas my brother gave me a "sister" charm for my bracelet along with a tub of Peaches and Creme cotton yarn. I decided to make myself a market tote and I'm very happy with the results!I think this bag will gets lots of use. I may or may not have planned another one.😀Today I'm going to work on another bowl like this one with a flared edge. It was my first attempt and I like how it looks. Today's bowl will be a bit larger.I'm joining Beth for Monday Making.  Go check out what others are working on.HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SPRING[...]

You knew right after I said we hadn't had any snow we'd get snow!
On Thursday we got about 3" of snow. Although according to the weather forecasters we were supposed to get 6-12". My husband finally got to use his new snow blower and he actually liked it.

Since it was a snow day, I decided to spend my whole day in my sewing room. I made a couple of yarn project bags.

I made this one with Burly Beavers from Robert Kaufman.

This one is made with Mini Llamas by Suzy Ultman for Robert Kaufman.

I also worked on a small batik table runner.

I used Bento blocks. It just needs a small maybe 1" border and some quilting.

I'll probably spend the weekend crocheting. I need to finish a test shawl and we won't talk about the WIPs!😬(image)

Making on Monday

It's a sunny day in beautiful Hatfield Pa. We haven't seen a lot of sun lately so I'm happy to have it today. You know we haven't had any snow to speak of either, this has been a strange winter.

Today I'm finishing up another multi color scrap bowl for my Etsy shop. I thought I'd use lots of scraps making these balls and I am, but the scrap pile is not getting any smaller. 😭

While the clips and pins do their work I'm going to focus on this stack of fabrics. They will all become project bags in the near future. Hopefully by the end of the week.

Slow Week

I've been doing lots of this and that this week and I don't see much getting accomplished.  I've put away a few fabric stacks, also a few yarn stacks.
I made one zippered pouch and started another that I had to put on hold because I didn't have the perfect red zipper.
I did find a faux fur pom pom for the hat I just finished.

Lastly I played with a few scraps. These are very small 1" tumblers. As you can see I am the person who thinks no scrap is too small! I am planning to use these in special gift I will be shipping out this week.

Bad Weather Outside = Creativity Inside

It's been stay in and create weather here in Hatfield this week, so that's what I'm doing. I have finished 2 crochet/knitting project bags and have a few more ready to sew today.

I'm planning to work on a few scrappy things soon. Although lots of scraps have been used making bowls and trivets, scraps are never ending here so I have lots more. I've been browsing Amanda Jean Nyberg's book Sunday Morning Quilts for inspiration. I'm certain the first quilt will be an everything goes quilt. After that maybe I'll do a few controlled color scrap quilts. Really it's what ever gets the most scraps used.

My evening crochet project is the Pomelo Shawl. It's a free pattern from Cascade yarns.

I'm using 4 different colors of  Knit Picks Palette to create this shawl. I sure hope it works as I imagine it. LOL

Do you have a resolution to use your scraps this year? Tell me what patterns you plan to use.(image)

I Get A Do Over!

It's a new year and we all get a do over! I really need one. I start every January off saying I'm going to blog more regularly. Ha, never happens! Maybe this will be the year.....Like lots of you I've gathered my UFO's made a list and plan to finally get them finished. I have 3 to finish this month.I've already finished one. It's now in my Etsy shop, so only 2 to go.Today I'm working on crochet and knitting project bags using a couple of sheep prints paired with a very dark gray cotton.I still spend my evenings crocheting. Here are a few recent finishes. And the coiled rope passion has not died! I'm still loving everything coiled rope![...]

Beautiful Weather

We've had some pretty nice weather the past few days. Although the flowers, trees and gardens needed the rain I'm real happy to see a little sunshine. The weather cleared up enough for my DH to put up the new mailbox. Ours was a victim of the snowplow in the only real storm we had this past winter.
I was able to get a few pictures on the lawn of the coiled rope rug I just finished.
I loved the finished rug so much I made a bowl like it which is in my Etsy shop.
I've used lots of scraps making these two items but let me tell you it didn't even put a dent in the scrap pile!
Today I will being finishing up this black, white and gray table runner. I made it with the leftovers of a charm pack from Connecting Threads and a few black and white prints from my collection.
This evening while I watch my struggling Phillies play I plan to work on this test shawl for a designer on Ravelry. I'm using Knit Picks Comfy fingering yarn.

Happy Holiday Weekend!

I haven't posted in a while, again. I've been very busy making so I'm using that as my excuse.I've tested some crochet patterns (doing one now). I've completed a few shawls, some project bags, a few custom bags and of course some bowls.Today I'm here to share my quilt for Hands2Help. I'm so very happy to be participating this year as I missed the cut off last year. I chose fabrics that reminded me of Spring and I really hope this quilt makes someone happy. Here are a few of my other makes this Spring. You may remember a while back I introduced you to my new then Etsy group, The Hot Bobbin. Well we now have a blog, so I if you have time go take a look here. And I can't leave without sharing some new bowls.I'm linking this post with Hands2Help. Go see all the beautiful quilts being donated.[...]

Making Things

Although I should be finishing up my 3rd WIP of the year I've actually only finished 1 1/2! (yes I'm still making coiled rope bowls)The quilt top I finally finished is from 2011. I remember when I put it away it just wasn't coming out like I'd envisioned it. When I took it out to work on it last week I decided to just nix the solids I was going to use and make it a small table topper.I also started a new table runner with one of my all time favorite color combinations, coral and khaki. These fabrics are from Riley Blake. On the crochet front, I've finished Lady Rosamund and Give Into Fall. Both of these shawls just need to be blocked. And of course here are the bowls! After missing the sign up date last year for Hands 2 Help I was sure not to do the same thing this year. If you are interested click the icon on the right side of the page at the top.[...]

Waiting for Spring

Although it really hasn't been a bad winter here in the north east, we are expecting a snow storm this evening. Actually the weather has been a bit strange. By next Wednesday it will be in the 70's! Gotta love that El Nino! So I've been doing my best to bring Spring to my sewing room with all of those gorgeous colors I love! This week I'm finishing up a rainbow mini for my swap partner on IG.I used this Laura Gunn Painter's Canvas fabric I won in an Instagram giveaway. It's paired with my favorite moda muslin that I buy by the bolt. It's taken me a while to come up with an idea for quilting this, but today is the day.On the crochet front, I have 4 rows to go on my Lady Rosamund. Of course I already have a crochet along project ready and waiting when Rosamund is done. And I couldn't end this post without showing the latest coiled rope bowls.I'm not addicted to them or anything.........[...]

Been Busy

I haven't blogged in a few weeks but I have been sewing. I won't lie I've made many more coiled rope bowls as well!I made this table runner with Bali Pops and of course none of the yards and yards of batik fabric I had matched. So I was forced to buy a few pieces from Handcocks of Paducah to bind it!I chose the wood grain batik for the binding. I still crochet in the evenings and as usual I have many projects going at the same time. I'm working on this shawl with a natural dyed yarn. It was dyed with Sumac! This is the other project I'm working on, another test pattern for Mad Cap Fancies. It's one of the last in her series "Downton Farewell". This is Lady Rosamund.I have made 28 coiled rope bowls so far and I'm still loving them! I'm using lots of scraps and many ugly fabrics that are not so ugly when made into bowls. Ha ha[...]

Quilty Items and a Destash Party

I thought you all would like to see a few things I made before Christmas that have nothing to do with coiled rope. The first three are items I made for an Instagram swap in Nov. Sad I can't show you what I got in the swap because my partner never sent me anything!I made lots of bags this year small and large. Totes, cross body, cosmetic and wristlets! Totes were the first items I ever sold and I still enjoy making them.Today I finally had to give in and do a bit of cleaning which took most of the morning hours. Now that I'm finally in the sewing room I hope to actually do some piecing and then quilting so I'll have some colorful items to share. Some of you may remember I'm on the Quiltsy Team on Etsy. Two Trivets and a New Bowl

I'll admit it! I am addicted to this coiled rope thing. I just can't stop grabbing and wrapping scraps. It's funny though, I'm using lots of scraps but I don't see any difference in my scrap bins. I am having fun so I guess that counts for something.

I am in a mini quilt swap on Instagram, so I promise to show some real quilty stuff in this space soon. It happens to have a rainbow theme which is right up my alley!(image)

Two Days in a Row!

I spent a bit of time yesterday going through batik fabric in my effort to clean, purge and reorganize. I found 2 batik scraps and converted one into a coiled rope bowl right away. This bowl is 3" at the base, 7" at the top and 2" high. This bowl was made with 7" by WOF scrap.

Once I have everything in it's former home or new home I plan to buy myself a new chair. The one I have now is done and it costs more to replace the hydraulic cylinder than to purchase a new one. Do you have a favorite chair? I'm open to suggestions.

On the crochet front I just finished a test pattern for Mad Cap Fancies. I love the results and it's blocking as I type this. Here's a picture but I'm sure it will look better once the blocking opens it up a bit.
I am linking up with Cynthia over at Quilting is more fun than Housework for Oh Scrap! Stop by and check it out.(image)

Happy New Year

It's a new year and I've said this before but with a fresh start I'm going to see if I can restart this blog!
The end of the year found me very busy just like everyone else. Lots of gifts to make, orders to fill and Christmas decorating.
My family had another successful auction and pantry party with all proceeds going to help families in need at Christmas time. A new addition to the Quarterman clan is expected next month, another great niece for me.
My new Etsy team The Hot Bobbin is doing well and we are hoping for a good year in 2016.
On the things I am making front, I have become addicted to coiled rope bowls! There are about 5 in my shop and I made large ones as Christmas gifts. It's something I wanted to try for a long time but thought it would be difficult. Well it's so easy and the combinations are as versatile as your fabric stash. Here are a few of them

Autumn is Coming but not Fast Enough

I am the person who does not like summer! I really can't wait for these last few weeks to be done. So I thought I'd help it along with a little Halloween stitching this week.

Just the Scraps Mam!

I don't usually work with solids, but I have lots of squares left from this quilt.

So I thought maybe I'd make a few mug rugs. Well mug rugs became something else....

a table runner with a snazzy stripe binding that is now in my Etsy shop.
I think I like it and more might be in the works.(image)

What I Did on my Summer Vacation

Last week DH, DD and I visited Chincoteague and Assateague Islands.

It was so relaxing!(image)

Little Things

I've been making lots of small items lately. Cosmetic bags, crochet and knitting project bags. This all got started with one big order of bags for my niece's bridesmaids. She got married on July 11th and the bags were a hit!

Here are a few that made it to my Etsy shop.

I'm enjoying making these right now and yesterday I received some Kraft -Tex paper fabric in the mail. Can't wait to try it along with fabric in the next bag.(image)

On Sunday

Hello! Remember Me?

I won't even try to explain why I haven't been blogging. I'll just say it's been so much easier to keep up with everyone on other social media outlets. Mostly my time has been occupied by Instagram.
It's very easy to use and for people like me who really don't write well, it's perfect! Mostly pictures and very few words. Although I guess there is no reason why I can't write blog posts with fewer words. So let's call this the beginning of blogging with fewer words and see how it goes.
I've completed lots and lots of projects since my last post. Here are just a few

I've also finished a few crochet projects

I can't say I've missed blogging but I have missed reading blogs. So I will be trying to spend some time catching up on all the blogs I've missed visiting.By the way if you'd like to follow me on Instagram I'm charqt3(image)

It's Almost Over!

This is all I've been doing since October. My last craft show is On Saturday!

On Sunday

On my last trip to the Sauder store I bought a bolt of text print fabric. I’ve had lots of ideas running through my head on how to use text prints. Since it’s craft show season it’s been hard to find time to experiment with it. Last week I stole a few minutes and made these.

This mug rug was made with text print and solid scraps from the Confetti quilt.

And this is a table runner made with my stack of 2.5 squares that are used as leaders and enders.

I think I’m going to enjoy working with this print. I may even have a New York Beauty in my future

Today is the last day of The Hot Bobbin sale. It’s 10% off with the coupon code bobbin10.
