Comment on Wardruna in North America by Jason Bouchard

Tue, 06 Feb 2018 15:26:00 +0000

I will have to admit: I actually only heard of Wardruna last year when I saw through the Evenko Facebook page that Wardruna would play in Montreal. I was impressed when I looked into them. I did buy a ticket once they announce that they would be coming in Toronto (initially, they weren't coming to Toronto) because who knows what can happen in life. My only regret is that I didn't find about them sooner, but I can expect an interesting experience.

Cool list. I'll be sure to buy Pallbearers new album. I haven't listened to many new albums from this year, but really like "Incorruptible" by Iced Earth and "The Grinding Wheel" by Overkill.

Enjoyed reading this, particularly the "My 2017 in Metal" section. As a distressed American metal writer who's had more than my fair share of freakouts over the current political situation, I've turned to metal as a comfort, and frankly the more escapist it is the better. I have a vague idea of the kind of metal writing you're referring to and I agree, not everything in metal has to be tied into this idea of combating social injustice and/or addressing inequalities. Metal can address those things, but it can also be a world apart. I guess I resent the idea that some have floated out there that escapism in metal doesn't contribute anything meaningful to the world ---- it most certainly does, its why a great number of us were attracted to the genre in the first place way back in our younger days. Keep up the great writing Adrien!

I don't know why this interview has no any comments, however, i was pleased to found it and read it. The way the Nameless Ghoul describes the band ideals is exactly the way i perceive it, and makes me happy I wasn't wrong. Since i love the band it surprises me a lot that people don't understand it and call them clowns, they are a musical and theatrical show! They (or him) are building a storyline and all of songs and characters/muscicians have a big role in it. Reading this in 2017, I'm looking forward to their next album release, letting aside the problems that may be in the band. Congratulations for the good questions, it'd be amazing that you do an interview on this times. PD. Sorry for my redaction or bad english, i'm not really good with the language. Greetings from México! ml,

What's the metal connection with this guy? I noticed he's playing a festival down south in a couple weeks, slotted in between Elder and Captain Beyond--so I'm probably gonna hafta sit through his set whether I like it or not... Peace, Greg

For a second there, I thought that poster was an Acid Bath album cover. I was freaking out! Also of note, for the doomier folks: Oct 13: Sons of OTIS 25th anniversary show @ Bovine Oct 14: Elder @ Velvet Underground (super-late start--doors @ 11 pm) Nov 1: Primitive Man/Bell Witch @ Coalition Did not know that Acid Witch was in town on the 14th. I've already got a ticket for Elder, though... Peace, Greg
