Ladies, Valentine's Day will soon be upon us if mainstream retail America have not knocked you over the head with it yet. Instead of red, pink, and white...why not try French blue, ecru, and antique ivory for Valentine's Day evening wear?

Recently I photographed several antique and vintage lingerie and boudoir evening pieces. I'll be adding these into the shop this week so you'll have it in plenty of time before Valentine's Day!

Instagram Recap: Portland I *Hearts Adore* You

Roses from the Portland Rose GardenThe City of Roses has a special place in my heart and this past visit really tugged at me. Perhaps it was because it was the first time that I really (like really) could see myself living there. Or maybe it was the first time it didn't feel like a city I was just visiting, but rather a city that I could stay in.Last time we were in Portland, my fella and I had a jam packed schedule. This time around we were still out and about and going to all sorts of places, but it didn't feel scheduled, it just felt natural. My favorite memory will probably be the day my friend Cari and I (we were in Portland at the same time, hooray!) were taken to Sauvie Island by her sister and her friend. Driving through fields of white flowers, seeing lone large trees in an expanse of farmland, noticing chipping old barns set against a beautiful Oregon summer sky... it was Heaven I tell you! I thought my heart would burst with happiness!I remember thinking...this...THIS feeling. Where things are slow and moving, and you have time to notice beautiful things like ospreys hovering overhead and the way the breeze bends the long wild grass...I also met up with several lovely people. Friends I have made through Instagram who have become friends in real life. It is just so wonderful to meet people you follow and have watched the world through their eyes and then to realize them in real life and discover they're just how you imagined them to be? I had such a terrific time breakfasting with Annie from Lantana Vintage, Solanah from Vixen Vintage and now American Threads, and Gretchen from The Neutral Territory. Thank you ladies for taking the time to meet up and break bread together! I always think the best conversations are those around a fine meal and a delicious cup of coffee (which Portland is brimming over with both!)Ahhh...and the shopping, and the vintage! Oy vey! Portland has many, many, many delightful boutiques and vintage shops to whittle away your hard earned dollars! I only went to a few vintage shops this time around to source for vintage for my own shop (and my closet), but I did go to several wonderful other shops I've been following in Instagram for awhile including Yo Vintage, Lowell and Maven Collective where I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Jax of Tabor Vintage and Kim of Ethan Ollie. You ladies are so wonderful and wish I had more time to have chatted with you both to talk shop, pretty things, and general hoopla. This is turning into the longest love letter I think to Portland (just kidding, I bet someone has written love letters to Portland and I bet there are VOLUMES of it).I'm sure the photos speak for themselves and hopefully will say a lot more than I ever could about how much I love and absolutely adore the city of Portland.I should just move there. LOL.[...]

Native West + 1970s Cher

Long before there was disco Cher (who is awesome) there was Native American/Southwest inspired Cher (equally as awesome). Ok, so maybe it's not too long before, only a few years. In the early 1970s Cher often modeled in Vogue magazine (probably a lot of that has to do with the then Vogue editor in chief, Diana Vreeland, who loved how Cher looked) and in most of these editorial stories Cher wore a lot of incredible Native American jewelry, colors, and textures. Also, can I just say how much I love her pin straight black mane? Makes me want to grow mine out then get a Brazilian blow out so I can channel my "take me back to 1973" native spirit. All right, I know that last photo (in the bottom right corner) isn't of Cher, but you get the vibe. Here are some more Southwest/Native American fashion + lifestyle inspirations. And if you get a quick minute, check out all the native and bohemian inspired vintage jewelry that just arrived in the shop!Isn't the vintage Ralph Lauren advertisement just amazing? Although I could do without the bandana around the head like that, too Rambo for me. And this last photo of country darling Emmylou Harris photographed at magic hour with the sun through her bohemian floral dress and her simple silver jewelry. I adore this so much.links://Old school Ralph Lauren advertisement, so Americana! | photo of the lovely Emmylou Harris | Originally from Free People blog, but found here Native Southwest + Boho inspired jewelry at Adored VintageOh here is an article about Emmylou Harris | me just finish this blog post that Emmylou Harris is my current style obsession at the moment. An Ode to Women in War, A Memorial Day Post

During the second World War, women really stepped up to the plate and did their part in the war effort. Not only did they step up to the plate, it was actually encouraged! More women served as pilots and nurses on the war front. Women at home supported the war by doing the jobs the men did like joining the Women's Land Army of America. Here are several vintage photos from the 1940s of women in war. Happy Memorial Day loves!

This last photo is a photo of women in the Woman's Land Army of America with their harvested crops.  I really love this photo for some reason, I think it is because I love the idea of women (or people in general) coming together to support a bigger cause.

Here are more great links if you're interested in learning more about women in the war effort back in the 1940s!

Found Vintage Photos | Week 21

I was listening to an older "This American Life" podcast entitled Americans in Paris and there was a short snippet towards the end that I absolutely adored by Janet McDonald, author of "Project Girl" (a book I am going to pick up and add to my summer reading list) and her description of how the French viewed our American ways. Like how work is just not a big deal and there isn't this huge pressure to be at the top or striving to be number one. I like that. Why can't we just be? The photos I found this week and wanted to share evoke this feeling and being I really want and am learning to adopt. [...]

Mixing Prints and Neutral Colors, That 1970s Vibe

I think it goes without saying that we at Adored Vintage love neutrals and today we're taking a time machine back to the 1970s to delve into fashion inspiration that embodies what the modern day AV gal is all about: chic, effortless, and timeless fashion. And speaking of effortless and chic ladies, I must bring up Gretchen Jones and her fashion project The Neutral Territory in which for the entire year of 2014 she eliminates one color from her wardrobe every month to experiment with an all natural wardrobe. Gretchen's style very much resonates with what I love about the vintage seventies fashion inspiration I posted here. She has a wonderful knack of pairing patterns, textures and shapes together with ease and adds just the right amount of jewelry accents to finish it off nicely. Seriously though, go check out her blog! You'll probably want to throw out all your brightly colored clothes after, or at least stock them away until you want to wear the rainbow again (speaking from experience, all my brightly colored 1970s kaftans, 60s minis, and 2000s DVFs are safely stocked away in storage)links // Images from Vintage 1970s Style on pinterest | Neutral Territory | http://www.theneutralterritory.comAdored Vintage | Shop vintage clothing from the 1970s[...]

A Vintage Shop Update | Gypsy Fields

We hope everyone is enjoying the sunny weather, we can't believe it's already May! Summer time always reminds us of our love for 1970s bohemian style. We love the casual feel of the clothes and anything crochet is a winner in our book. This week's update is full of bright kaftans, maxis, and crochet tops and skirts. We are just in love with the Khemisset Kaftan, the bright blue color and relaxed fit make it a perfect option for a casual weekend look. Shoulder length hair ideas "the Lob"

Last summer I cropped my waist length hair into an above the shoulder asymmetrical bob and the past few months I've dabbled with growing it out then cropping it back to the bob again. Now I'm leaning towards the growing it out side and these shoulder length hairstyles are so inspiring! Yay for the long bob, or as Hollywood has been saying "the lob" which is the dumbest name ever, but totally makes sense.

Airy Romantic Versaille Inspired Bedrooms

These vintage inspired bedrooms are so dreamy to me. I adore French inspired styles, but to be honest, usually don't care for overly done/overly stuffed French style. I've seen some photos of Marie Antoinette's Royal Apartment and I'm just like "Yikes, too much! Simplify girl! Minimize!" I do adore her color choices though, but then again, there's nothing quite like that French blue!

I absolutely delight in coming across found vintage photographs all throughout the internet and since Pinterest came about, it has made sourcing and discovering these historic gems that much easier (and also more of a time suck). But I digress... I love seeing all these old photos! The photo above makes me smile and makes me wish I was at the beach. Also, I want all those vintage bathing suits! William Morris Wallpaper

If you've been following our blog and our vintage shop long enough, you know I'm a complete sucker for florals. Especially when they are as stunning as the antique wallpapers from 19th century artist, writer, and textile designer, William Morris.

Vintage Style Muse: Frida Kahlo

There is something about Frida Kahlo's style that I love and appreciate. I loved that she chose to wear more traditional Mexican clothing. Although, for a brief time she did wear clothing "of the times" but then shunned modern fashion ideals and just decided to be herself and do her own thing, yeah girl!

In 1939 she graced the cover of French Vogue, but photos of her had already appeared in American Vogue a couple years earlier. Frida Kahlo's style is composed of traditional Mexican clothing such as embroidered blouses, full length skirts with flounced hems, and shawls or serapes.

These are some of our favorite Frida Kahlo looks, especially the all white cotton ensemble with the short puffed sleeves and the apron style front. Her jewelry always had a native tribal look to them focusing on etched wood beads and silver accents.

One of the most iconic symbols of Frida Kahlo fashion (besides those brows!) are flowers in her hair which are often depicted if not always depicted in all of her self portraits.

Monday Muse | Betty Grable

When modern day model Heidi Klum's legs were being insured it was big deal, but she wasn't the first.  Iconic actress Betty Grable was the first to have her famous stems insured. Grable's legs were insured for an unprecedented 1,000,000 by her studio at the time by Floyd's of London. Her bathing suit poster was the number one pin-up girl poster during WW1 and was named one of the 100 photos that changed with world by Time magazine. Aside from her famous body, Grable was known for her work in numerous successful film musicals in the 1940s as well as roles on broadway. One of our favorite Betty Grable movies is How To Marry A Millionare where she played opposite Lauren Bacall and Marilyn Monroe. She even had her own paper dolls, how neat is that?!"She was known by several nicknames during her heyday in the '40s, including "the girl with the million dollar legs," "the quick-silver blonde," "the queen of the Hollywood musical," and "the darling of the forties." Grable died in 1973 at age 56 of lung cancer"1. Life is a Living Process...and some other current musings

It has been a good long time since I have sat down to really pen down my thoughts and share them. I've journaled on and off for 20 some odd years and it is always a trip to go back and read through my old journal entries. Lately I've been journaling more about the future and what that is shaping up to be, or rather how I will shape it. I am a true believer that for the most part you are where you are because of the decisions you make. A few years ago I didn't think I would have a large office for Adored Vintage and then own another shop and then possibly opening up a 3rd store. And I'm not sure if you know this, but 85% of all of this is still run all by just myself. When God created me, He must have put the energy and drive of 100 bulls inside me or something! LOL! I am noticing through looking back on the past years how I've changed in small little ways, like how I'm less of a control freak (sorta, kinda sorta). The biggest change I've noticed though is the decision to be happy and to always find happiness in the little things. And to simplify. And to connect with people on a deeper level. And to cut out the bullshitters. And to be authentic. It is incredibly freeing when you decide that most people's opinions really don't matter. And if you just keep on keeping on you'll get to where you want to be. Through the past few years I've been incredibly fortunate to come across some amazing men and women who have in such a short span of time shaped and sharpened my character today. Not that there isn't room for improvement, (there's always room for that!), but these kindred folks saw my potential and helped guide me to embrace and nurture who it was I could become.Ok, sorry this is getting all cheese ball on you, but the past week or so I have been spending some quality time with solid people in my life who have been sharing some really wise pieces of nuggets with me. And also running 2 shops. I accept I am always busy and that I choose to be busy. Life is a living process and I'm happy to have a part in it.  [...]

How does your garden grow?

This time of year in California I start feeling this longing for having my own little patch of Earth to grow herbs, veggies, and lots of flowers in. However, living in a city where the only viable option is a few pots on the back door steps... my garden dreams are a bit far fetched. So instead, I daydream and spend an hour (or two) perusing Pinterest for inspiration for my future garden.

Vintage Inspired Runway: Dolce + Gabbana Spring 2014

Dolce and Gabbana never fails in our books. D&G is always romantic, vintage inspired, and utterly glamorous. These are the kind of clothes we would live in if we were a modern day princess and had the matching bank account. The Dolce and Gabbana Spring 2014 runway collection just tugged at my floral loving heart. I also loved the Greek nuances and the romantic Pre-Raphaelite inspired hair. 25,000 Instagram Fans! Thank you! Merci! Salamat!

Almost 3 years ago I signed up for this cool little app called Instagram posting pictures of my life's little happenings (cheese and wine afternoons with friends, farmers' market on Sundays...) and then it lead into little behind the scene peeks of what it was and is like to be a online vintage shopkeeper.

Throughout these few years it has been a wonderful joy (and sometimes bittersweet) to look back at these old photos and see where Adored Vintage and myself have come. While Instagram is the place where I share beauty and loveliness to inspire those that follow Adored Vintage on Instagram, it isn't lost to me all the not so lovely real life moments not shared and captured.

These photos from our Instagram are amongst our top liked photos ever. In a couple years time AV went from a few hundred followers to over 25,000 and I am humbled, overjoyed, and to be quite honest a little shock. Thank you for being inspiring and hopefully inspired!

As a thank you for your support, your love, and well, liking what we like (lovely and pretty moments), we are offering all of our social media fans 25% OFF their purchases in May with the code MUCHADORED. Simply enter it at checkout to save 25% OFF your vintage shop purchase.
