Comment on #allthethings vs #essentials + healthy homes by Lori Young

I love it Holly! I'm learning the same truth, that ssentials are all that's essential. I went through a crazy health spiral the last three months as a result of a chemical substance (a moldicide powder) that spilled out of my desk chair (a cute linen and nailhead deskchair!). I didn't know it was a health hazard or that it had permeated the fabric of the chair and gone through the rug beneath (it spilled out of a packet, like a silica gel packet that was in the bottom of the chair). Anyway, apparently the constant presence of this chemical around me as I sat at my desk everyday sensitized me to it and boy did my body pitch a fit! I was broken out in hives for 6 weeks and had such a time. As a result I became sensitive to every other thing that has this chemical in and on it, which is ev.er.y.thing. (textiles from overseas). I had to get rid of clothing, part with furniture, draperies, bedding, linens...you name it. I felt like I and my home were being stripped of everything that I had curated over time. You've heard of capsule wardrobe...try capsule household. Anyway, I'll be following along your journey about essentials. God sometimes puts us in a place where we come back to the foundation of what is really essential. His Name's Jesus :). Love to you!

One year my "word" ( I don't do resolutions) was "balance' and the jist of it pretty much meshes with your "essentials" focus. Love it. We use YL Oils. They make such a difference and my daughter was diagnosed with celiac so that forced us to get organized and clean up our eating act. I am here to encourage you - even with feeding 2 boys- that if you just make the shift and buy 'good, fresh, healthy" food it does not take long for your taste buds to change and you care less about fast food and such. We still cheat but we feel so much better when we don't that it gets easier and easier to leave bad habits behind. (We made that Rotel/Velveeta dip that we have loved for years over the holidays and we all felt so full and heavy afterwards that I doubt we will ever crave it again LOL) Your taste bud shift will truly happen. There are so many Whole 30 recipes on Pinterest that we use as our go-to's. I have their book too. We aren't always hard core but it is such a good way to get turned around. If you want to know more about how we "shifted" our eating habit just email or message me. We are just regular ol' people who needed to get healthier but we are not fanatics about any of it. And I have learned that all the other things fall in to place more easily when our diet is not full of junk and carbs and sugar. And believe me a bag of chips and a glass of wine was once a favorite of mine!! We still need to lose more weight and exercise more and all of that but really every little bit helps!! You can do it!!

When life throws challenges our way we have to reevaluate and assess to navigate our way back to good health and peace within. It sounds like you've got the map and have begun the process. Essential is such a great word for us all to remember, after all, that keeps us grounded and confident that we are taking care of our priorities in life. I always enjoy your honest reflections on life and come away reminded of what is important. xo, Karen

What a great class! I love the use of the blue and white and magnolia...I love to use my magnolia branches all year! And paired with the buffalo check fabric, which I have been on the hunt for...yes!!! Any suggestions on where to locate it? Our fabric stores in FW are growing few and far between!

Holly, What a great day you all had. The tables and arrangements in blue and white, are beautiful and timeless. I'm checking the schedule, I'll be in Austin sometime this spring and will try to work around this schedule. Happy New Year! Thank you for inspiring some ideas for the bare spaces now that I've taken down Christmas! :-) xo, Karen

Holly, I'm sorry for your loss and I understand how sometimes difficult relationships with parents can make it hard to grieve as we know we should. Your post is helpful. May 2018 be a wonderful year for us all. xo, Karen
