Bluebird's Vintage Market

A place to talk about vintage and antique finds from the 'attics of the Ozarks.' And to also showcase "Bluebird's Vintage Market" held the first Saturday of May near Republic, MO

Updated: 2017-02-08T22:52:30.390-06:00

Rain or shine!

Here's a great website with really good maps to help you find area yard sales... Find yard sales in republic on Yard Sale Search Won't matter what the weather does on Saturday, May 4th, we will be at the barn with lots of great antiques and fun stuff you can't live without! 8 am - 4 pm. Check out my Facebook page for the latest photos.

5th Annual Bluebird's Vintage Market - Coming soon to a barn near you!

I've basically transferred information on my Market to the facebook page of the same name "Bluebird's Vintage Market" but will try to keep updated here as this blog address is on my handouts.

This year's date is Saturday, May 4, 2013 and again we are 'back in the barn' at my family farm one mile south of Republic. So mark this date on your calendar and if you are out and about, look for my turquoise blue flyers. I have some new and interesting dealers signing up so stay tuned!

Here I am with Christie Hatman who set up at the February antique show in Springfield. Christie has her own HGTV show called Auction Agent which premiers on HGTV March 1st! She's a fun girl and an award winning auctioneer, so her show should be interesting.

Crayon box colored Pyrex is always something I'm on the hunt for! Why not get some and use it! Just wash it by hand to keep the colors vibrant.

Some of my goodies at the February show. It's always fun to look through old snapshots and wonder why in the world someone would give them up.

Colorful kitchen items are useful and cheerful for your kitchen decor.

Bluebird Does the Quilt Show

I'm gearing up to exhibit my antiques and collectibles at the Ozark Piecemaker's Quilt Guild show in Springfield, September 20-21-22, 2012. You can read more about the show at:

I'm taking quilt and sewing related items like buttons, linens, quilts, patterns, vintage fabrics and a whole lot more.

To market, to market...tomorrow!

More good stuff!

When booths 'collide' in the Marketsphere...

How about a hot fudge sundae with whipped cream and a cherry on top?

Curtains, bedspread, many uses for this colorful retro fabric...

Last but not least...the Mapquest map to show you the way to fabulous antiques and vintage wares!

More Goodies Today! The Vintage Market is just days away! May 5 starting at 8 am!

You could set up a fine library with all the vintage and antique books ...

               Colorful wares make Springtime vibrant...

Who wouldn't want to lounge in these chairs on a sunny day?

Saddle 'er up...saddle, bridle and spurs...

Colorful vintage floral pins make a fashion statement...

The Barn is Busy as a Beehive

Lots of activity today as four dealers prepared their booths. Check my facebook page titled "Bluebird's Vintage Market" to see some of the things in store for Saturday!

Once again, this Mapquest map makes it easy to get there! See you Saturday...

Welcome FOXWOOD ANTIQUES to Bluebird's Vintage Market! And check out this link to a great yard sale site. See you on Saturday:) Find republic yard sales on Yard Sale Search

Starting to see lots of neat old stuff for the upcoming Bluebird's Vintage Market. You can Mapquest directions to 13756 West County Line Road. Here's a link to the Mapquest Map:

Remember it's rain or shine and the barn has a full slate of great dealers!

Lots and lots of garden items....
An Ode to Mid Century Mad Men fans...
Primitives galore, a great place to shop for your lake cabin...
 Many great vintage finds....
McCoy bowl set in yummy colors...

It won't be long until the 4th Annual Bluebird's Vintage Market! We have a great group of dealers...both ones who have exhibited before, and some new ones. Be sure to put the Market on your calender and come out to do your Mother's Day shopping! Don't forget, this year we're "Back in the Barn"

Day After Tomorrow!!!

You'll have to see it to believe it...awesome stuff is making it's way to the old farmhouse! Take a look then be sure to set your alarm Saturday morning...

See you there!

Good Stuff! Mother's Day Ideas Galore!!

Remember that this Sunday is Mother's Day so why not choose something unique for the special Mom's on your gift list? There will be something for every mom at the vintage market this Saturday. Or better yet, bring her to Bluebird's Vintage Market for a girl's day out and let her choose something nice.

Two dealers came with some items today and their merchandise is great! Fabulous patina!

There are lots of garden and architectural items...

And shabby chic as well...

Be there Saturday morning, opens promptly at 8 am rain or shine :)

Count down to Bluebird's Vintage Market

It's just over a week away! We've shined and spiffed up and the house and gardens look great. There's ample parking in the barn lot and there will be several entrances to the house. Needless to say everything is green and fresh after all the rain. I think the peonies will be in full bloom by next week (along with the dandelions!) Here are a few more peeks at what's in store...

The ever-popular rainbow colored Pyrex is a vintage collectible you can use every day...just don't put them in the dishwasher if you want to retain their shiny colored exterior surface :)

A yard sale rescue of c.1950s doll clothes didn't look like much until Bluebird's mama applied her laundry and 'Faultless' starching and ironing skills. Now they are cute as can be to keep your vintage dolls in high style...

The dealers have been scouring the Ozarks for vintage garden items...planters, tools, pots and more. These heavy duty older implements are so much more durable and stylish than the plastic versions of today...

And this year the food offering will be simple and befitting of what would have been served in this early 1900s farmhouse...homemade pie and bring your appetite!

I can't believe I said 'it will be so much easier to have the vintage market in the house instead of in the barn.' One thing leads to another and before long you are washing down everything and making improvements you never dreamed of. But having said that...the place is looking really good! Have been working down there once or twice per week and it's really shaping up. Here's the view from one of the porches...

And we'll have one whole room dedicated to quilts and linens...

But for the next week or so we'll keep these items handy...

Hope to see you all on May 7th!

It's hard to believe we finally have flowers blooming, the days are bright and sunny and there's just ONE MONTH until the Third Annual BLUEBIRD'S VINTAGE MARKET!

I just sent the information to the Springfield News Leader and it appears here:

The only bad thing is that this highlights the trouble I'm having with the address in Republic...the "Get Directions" link posted by the newspaper gives you a similar address in Billings. So hopefully I can get them to remove that link but if not there will be some unhappy people trying to find us.

As of today I have 15 dealers! Many new ones you've not seen before and everybody is busy getting their goods together and preparing for the best yet Vintage Market!

And don't forget to stop by Pheona's in Billings this weekend! I'll be there with my pocketbook :)

It's a new year and I'm looking forward to the 3rd Annual BLUEBIRD'S VINTAGE MARKET! It will be bigger and better this year because it's going to take place inside and around the early 1900s white farmhouse on the property.

The house is c. 1910 and features wood floors, crown mouldings, picket fence,  windows with charming country views, gingerbread details, and even some stained glass!

Here's the view from the barn lot...

Mark your calendar with the date...Saturday May 7, 2011, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. and keep checking my blog for updates.

Grand Opening at Relics Antique Mall

Don't miss the official Grand Opening Celebration at Relics Antique Mall! And be sure to check out both of my booths there for 50% savings! That's right! I'm clearing out to get ready for Christmas items and you'll save half off my already low prices next Saturday and Sunday, November 13th & 14th only!

July at Relics

I finally took some photos today at Relics. There are new dealers coming in every day I'm there and it's a lot of fun to visit and see what they are bringing in. I have tried to show some of the variety you'll find and am so pleased that my first full month at Relics has been wildly successful. Thanks so much to Beverly and Matthew for opening the Springfield antique mall and for the staff that helps keep it humming right along. And last but not least my customers -- Thank You! Please come back often to see what's happening at Relics Antique Mall! Here are some views of my two booths....the first two pictures are of my second booth (F-16) watching for a fabulous tramp art sewing stand that I'll be bringing in next week...Here's a couple of views of my original booth, right next to the line of glass showcases in the middle of the Mall....And here's what makes Relics enjoyable ... the team ... Beverly welcomes Monte who started moving into his booth on Row "M" after 4 pm today. He'll have his signature painted furniture, vintage garden decor and he'll stack it high so you'll want to linger and browseAnd here's always smiling Teresa manning the front desk (BTW she spells her name correctly, same as me LOL). Now just a couple of great booths and I'll post more later.....but the bottom line is you've gotta stop by! Remember it's Air Conditioned so it's cool and comfortable shopping :)[...]

Relics is open!

Relics Antique Mall is now open! It's located just west of the Grizzly tool place at the corner of Kansas and Battlefield. They are arranging for a huge sign to go up but for now just look for the brick building and a red and white sign outside.

Don't have any fancy photos but want you all to know that I am so happy to be there and I think this is what Springfield has needed for quite some time! It's air conditioned, clean, well lighted, and the people are friendly and accommodating. You will see nicer antiques and collectibles and they are in all price ranges.

I have two right down the center aisle by the glass showcases and another one in space F-16 (like the jet!). Just ask them to direct you to Booth #31. Sales have been very brisk and I have met many friends -- both old and new -- there while working my booth. I'm spreading the word about the Bluebird Vintage Market for future reference.

So if you want a break from the summer heat and humidity, stop by Relics. They're open 10-6 every day but Sunday when they open at noon.

Sizzling Summer!

A winning combo! Rafa and Antiqueing in Paris!!!Boy it sure takes a long time to recuperate from a trip to see this guy! We had a marvelous two weeks watching eventual French Open 2010 Champion Rafael Nadal and sneaking in a couple of days of antique shopping fun. Here is Nita at a street market...And here's our 'loot' from two mornings of Paris flea marketing. The first day spent at Porte de Vanves in Paris and the following weekend at the one above which fortunately was situated right outside out hotel door and went on for blocks! It was lovely to meet other Rafa fans from all over the world at Roland Garros and to cheer on our favorite player who incidentally regained Number One ranking at this grand slam!Rafa following practiceTeresa and new friend Christina from GermanyBig group of Vamos Brigade fans, most from HollandCheering with our flags on a blustery day!Celebrating Rafa's 5th French Open win with a glass of bubbly!!!And in case you don't follow tennis, Rafa went on to win his 2nd Wimbledon trophy a few weeks later...In other news, Jane and I are closing out our STD Central booth by the end of July and have slashed prices 75% so stop by to see what's there. I'm now occupying two booths at the new Relics Antique Mall on Battlefield, just west of Kansas and Battlefield intersection. I feel good about this's clean, cool and bright and the people there are a joy to work with. Hope to see you there and watch for their grand opening in a few weeks![...]

Paris in Springtime = Vamos for Rafa!

After the Vintage Market ends it's time for me and my mom to start packing for the French Open. Yes, it's our other passion, besides antiques! We leave today and return June 7th, hopefully getting to see this first...My mom and I have made lasting friends with other Rafael Nadal fans around the are a couple of them, Suzy & Ruby, from California. If you want some pure excitement or just a role model for your kids and grandkids, check out this 23 year old Spaniard. There are a lot of words written about him and if you get bit by the "Rafa" bug like me and my mom then go to our favorite website, Vamos Brigade, check out my blog under "Fan Experiences" which will chronicle our cheering for Rafa in Paris. And I don't think you'll be surprised to learn my screen name there is 'bluebird' :)                  VAMOS RAFAEL!!!p.s. Just because we love to cheer Rafa doesn't mean we won't take a few hours to cruise the Paris Flea Markets :)[...]

Here's a tribute to my wonderful mom, Juanita Bridges...who has always tried to keep me 'lined up'

She taught me about collecting and antiques and so much more. Things like "use the good china, if you don't use it now when WILL you use it?" and one of my all time favorites, "if you can't wear your best outfit to the White House where can you wear it?!" I appreciate all her help, encouragement, and friendship. We still get together and laugh like two teenagers.

Happy Mother's Day!

Coconut Walnut Bread

Several people requested the recipe for the yummy Coconut Walnut Bread that is a fixture at Kirby House in Abilene Kansas. Enjoy!

2 C. flour
1 3/4 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 1/3 C. sugar
1/4 tsp baking soda
2/3 C. vegetable oil
2/3 C. buttermilk
1/2 C. flaked coconut
2 large eggs
1 1/2 tsp. coconut flavor
1/2 C. chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 325 degrees and spray bottom of loaf pan with non-stick coating.

Mix dry ingredients in large mixing bowl.

Add oil, buttermilk, coconut, eggs, coconut flavor & walnuts to flour mixture. Mix with electric mixer just until dry ingredients are moistened.

Pour into prepared pan and bake 1 hour & 15 minutes or until done with toothpick test. Do NOT open oven door during baking process to avoid having bread sink in the center.

Let cool in pan on wire rack; When cool run knife around pan edges and remove bread. Wrap and store in fridge or freeze for up to 2 months. Do NOT cut until chilled and firm.

After slicing you may want to butter and lightly grill on both sides. Delicious!

I knew when I walked over to open the market at 8 a.m. and saw five times as many people lined up as last year that it would be a great day! Many thanks to my dealers who made this a memorable and fun event.

The crowds never let up and I was still selling merchandise as we were tearing down. The weather cooperated for the most part, the tea room was a hit, and we got lots of positive feedback from our many customers. I've already got some ideas for next year and hope I can make it bigger and better!

Hope to see you all next year...mark your 2011 calendars for Saturday May 7th!
