Life in the 2nd half century...

Who knew life after 50 would be so much better?

Updated: 2017-11-07T04:47:32.238-05:00

Indulge me....

I know that watching birds feed is,
maybe, not the most interesting video.

But from my point of view,
this is heaven.

My sweetie and I are in a new home,
surrounded by beauty,
covered in love.

I'm so very grateful.

No one can know what
goes on in the mind of others,
not unless they

I will be able to make sense of the past year....

they say insight only comes in retrospect.

I believe that must be true.
Thank God.

Movin' on....

Now that we have completed the repairs,we are ready to move on.....We have loved this house. We have renovated, painted, remodeled, ripped out the old in order to install the new....It is beautiful. We love it.But it is time to do something different....The following photos are not mine, but they are all wonderfully created. If you need an excellent interiors shooter,I know just the man you want to hire.(email me for his contact info)This is the Video Tour Link,it will be hard to leave that BAKW!I have sat there and observed the world for hours at a time.I watched the film crew working on the Pilot for "Homeland" from that window.(Carrie's apt interiors were shot in a neighbor's condo)It feels very strange to think of leaving here.Have you ever left a place with ambivalence? How did you deal with those feelings?I'm sure it's time, but there are doubts.smiles[...]

Wow....what a year...

It was simply one of the most difficult years we've had to endure.

Things are looking up though.

But, first...
Someone stole my other blog when I was cleaning up after the flood.

Not Yo Mommas Handbag?
named for my Etsy shop?
Created by me to chronicle the making of my

well, someone stole it.

Now if you go to the old site,
there is one post
months old
of a vacation somewhere.

Not mine.

So, here is my new
blog for the shop,
(which will be re-opened as soon as we move)

I can hold on to this one....

I am grateful for all Service Members,
past, present and future
that make a huge sacrifice
for us all.

My brother went to Iraq,

I am so very grateful that he came back unharmed.

My Uncle David attached this photo to one of his emails....

I love Sunflowers.

They always make me smile.

I hope your day is filled with

On February 27th 2013,I was in my downstairs officeand noticed a wet place on the carpet. The beginning of a nightmare.truly.on-going......A water leak from outside into our condo, began a long string of eventsthat I am unwilling to re-tell.However, after many sleepless nights, and much "hoo-ha"the work began......The front yard was trenched. The water-proofing was installed. The front steps were replaced.Andworkbegan inside(after months of no work in between)The young men began to remediate the "MOLD PROBLEM".Haz-mat type plastice sheeting went up.Blowers were installed.Protective breathing apparatus were used.Andthenit came to a HALT."Ms. Reed, please come down here, I have something to show you...."water is still coming in to our home.I am so discouraged.I want desperately to be optimistic. But, I am smiles today.[...]

Today, I am grateful.....

so, here's delivers things you don't expect, sometimes.usually, I find myself totally unprepared....But,I have learnedthat when I've been blind-sided,I can get out my toolkit of chaos busters.....My Gratitude list is the best on I can think of when I have nothing else to, here tis....I am eternally grateful for coffeeI am grateful for roses.....and sunflowers...of course, the beach....and sun....and quiet....I am so very, sincerely, honestly grateful for my sweetie....and magnolias....and the bucket full!!pasta.....;-)homegrown tomatoes.....and, as Wallace says, "CHEESE!"....and bread.....(I am noticing a pattern here....)and different types of CHEESE!from assorted countries.....(thank you Whole Foods)and lastly (but never leastly, is that a word?)Chocolate! There, I feel much better now....don't you?nowI can smile.[...]

First of the season!!

That's right!
Mr Blue Jay.....

Not as sweet as a Blue Bird,
and he has a very distinct
in fact, sort of annoying call.

But he is my
bellwether that fall is well and truly here.

Even though
I sit here at my desk in shorts,
t-shirt and sweat....

Isn't he handsome?

Yes, I a semi-obnoxious way, right?

I live in the town in which I grew up.
When I was elementary school age, my parents fed the birds each winter.
Predictably, as soon as we saw our first
Blue Jay of the season, we would put up the bird feeder and carefully fill it.

There were TONS of Blue Jays back then.

In the last century......

decades ago.....

Now I sound just like my parents...

Have you seen a Blue Jay?

What is your bellwether for fall?

Any interesting fall practices in your family?

(I usually try to use only my own images in this blog, however the Blue Jay I saw today wouldn't pose, so this is a googled image)

My focus was "off" a bit today.....

but that hardly matters...really.perhaps my hands were shaking.....too much "joe"....perhaps, there was a chill in the flashes take care of that!Actually, I think everything might have turned out just as it should.....A dear friend sent this to me yesterday.... "She Let Go”She let go. Without a thought or a word, she let go.She let go of the fear. She let go of the judgments. She let go of the confluence of opinions swarming around her head. She let go of the committee of indecision within her. She let go of all the ‘right’ reasons. Wholly and completely, without hesitation or worry, she just let go.She didn’t ask anyone for advice. She didn’t read a book on how to let go. She didn’t search the scriptures. She just let go. She let go of all of the memories that held her back. She let go of all of the anxiety that kept her from moving forward. She let go of the planning and all of the calculations about how to do it just right. She didn’t promise to let go. She didn’t journal about it. She didn’t write the projected date in her Day-Timer. She made no public announcement and put no ad in the paper. She didn’t check the weather report or read her daily horoscope. She just let go.She didn’t analyze whether she should let go. She didn’t call her friends to discuss the matter. She didn’t do a five-step Spiritual Mind Treatment. She didn’t call the prayer line. She didn’t utter one word. She just let go.No one was around when it happened. There was no applause or congratulations. No one thanked her or praised her. No one noticed a thing. Like a leaf falling from a tree, she just let go.There was no effort. There was no struggle. It wasn’t good and it wasn’t bad. It was what it was, and it is just that.In the space of letting go, she let it all be. A small smile came over her face. A light breeze blew through her. And the sun and the moon shone forevermore.I am sorry I do not know the author, it was not me obviously...smiles![...]

No, I didn't get to go.....but someone did! This is what passes for coffee in the afternoon, these days......too many Hot Flashes, otherwise. These are the lovely roses that my sweetie blesses me with.....regularly.THIS is the someone that enjoyed a trip to my favorite city on earth.....lucky dude!I am equally blessed though, I managed to sneak in a trip to the beach last month...HERE is where I sat my big fat butt, for days on end....When it wasn't right next to this bag, on the sand....smiles.....[...]

Summer has a way of...

slowing us down....Thusthe lack of recentposts.....smiles!Doing verylittlehere,how'boutyou?[...]

Meet Freddie....

Do you see him?

Straddling the handle bar?

Trying to look all MACHO?

And non-chalant at the same time?

that's Freddie.
Contrary to popular opinion....

Freddie ain't dead....

(sorry for the 70's song reference, I couldn't help myself)

Well, anyway....I was minding my own bee's wax one day,
visiting the local grocery, and there he was.....

bobbing his head up and down,

showing me that

scarlet neck of his.....

strutting his stuff all over town.
(well actually all over the handle bar)

Letting me know he was AVAILABLE
A CATCH of the FIRST order.....
(bobbing furiously)

I had to stifle my laughter,
didn't want to embarras,
I am sure that some sweet thing came over as soon as I left the

Soon, there will be little freddies all over the grocery parking lot!~

What a week!Things are so much better today....the promise of tomorrow,and hope....Nowback to work....I have been working (as focused as I am capable of)on the Not Yo Mommas Handbag2013 Collection[...]

Ever have one of those days?

You know the type....

the one
where you wake up at 2:57am and
cannot go back to sleep?

the one
where you are having your first cup o' joe
and you hear something odd in the bathroom
down in the guest room?
it turns out to be a sewage back up?

the one
where you are afraid to take a shower and make the
sewer back up you go down to your office
and start on much delayed work......and
(wait for it....)

you notice that the floor under your desk is damp?

No, ....make that soaking wet?

(thank goodness it wasn't sewage)

Rain coming in from the other side of the foundation wall!

You know, the one that was taken completely back to the studs

water proofing (?) painted on the cider blocks, Drywall replaced,
interior paint whole room, new shoe molding.....
ALL WET......

the one
where you go to get your handy dandy carpet cleaner
to SUCK up the water out of the carpet in your office,

is between you and the carpet cleaner....

the one
where you finally get the carpet cleaner out of the closet
and start the SUCKING of water.....
and after emptying the reservoir several times
it doesn't seem to be getting any drier?

that's the day I have been having.

I think I will go take a nap...

An enduring love....

We all want it....We search for it...We pray for it....We would do just about anything to find it....An Enduring LOVE.I think this sums it up;      I will love you no matter what. I will love you if you are stupid, if you slip and fall on your face, if you do the wrong thing, if you make mistakes, if you behave like a human being - I will love you no matter.--Leo Buscaglia (I miss Leo B. tremendously)(especially in Valentines Day....)Any sweetie and I were talking to a young man this morningabout replacing a window(our BAKW, as a matter of fact)and he noticed the roses that were sitting on the kitchen table. He stopped and said"Would you like to hear the sweetest story I have ever heard?"What? This was the very las thing I expected to hear out of a window salesman.Yes?So he started to tell us the story of his wife's grandfather who died approximately 2 weeks ago...close enough that family were still staying with her grandmother.Yesterday. the doorbell rang and there was the florist with roses for grandma, from grandad.....bought months ago, paid in advance, for years to come, the card read;"I will love you, eternally"A sweet story, but I have heard something like this before,(the cynic in me said...)Then I looked up at him,and he said to us"The best thing about this story is that when my wife told me this, she said "That is exactly how I want you to love me"And as he shifted in his shoes,he said"And that is exactly what I am going to do, because I am the luckiest man in the world"Now, that part of the story is what choked me up....smiles.[...]

The happiest time of the year.....

well,Those are easy words to say....and even, to write...But along with the decorations, the tree, the holly, garland and lights, there are those who are suffering with feelings of loneliness, fear, isolation, and grief.I knowof a family who recently lost the dad,and just this past week, their house burned completely to the ground. So,there is a mother and two small childrensuffering.People are helping to get them on their feet...But the feelings are there...and overwhelm....So,as you celebrate with family and friends, remember those who are not feeling the "spirit of the season" and be grateful.....smiles.[...]
