My Morning Jacket with Eddie Vedder - The Who's A Quick One While He's Away 2011-05-26T16:24:06.356-07:00 Been a huge fan of The Who since college. Still remember seeing The Kid's Are Alright in a little theater in Iowa City and being blown away by them.Had lately started listening to some Pearl Jam and Eddie Vedder inparticular, then My Morning Jacket when they showed up on a 30th Anniversary CD of The Last Waltz. This is the long way around how I found this mind blowing video of Eddie and MMJ doing one of The Who's early efforts as telling a longer story than you could in a 2:50 rock song. Now while these are the best set of lyrics I've found for the song, it should be understood that even Eddie Vedder will tell you that it changes some each time it is performed, and he isn't really sure what exactly the lyric sheet should show, or if there should even be one... Interestingly enough though, while the instrumental part of the song gets changed up quite a bit the basic rhythm of the vocal stays pretty static. So while the words may have a bit of leeway there is undeniably structure to the lyrics. Here is a video with a great audio track of the song, with the lyrics superimposed. Enjoy! (object) (embed)

With his brand of mainstream (but never Middle of the Road) rock, John Cougar Mellencamp has remained faithful to his Indiana farmland roots, and just gotten better and better over the years. He is the kind of artist that you just keep coming back to... This one always made me think of "I Fought The Law" in all of it's incarnations. I even included it on a Squidoo page I did just on the multitudes of covers that song has generated. Warren Zevon 2008-03-25T23:54:26.576-07:00 (image) Warren Zevon Warren is another of the great songwriters of his generation. You may think that you have never heard of him, but I guarantee that you have heard his work. From "Werewolves of London" to all of the hits he wrote for other people, his was an amazing talent. Unfortunately his life was cut short in September of 2003 by inoperable cancer. Enjoy what there is of his incredible talent. A great tribute CD was compiled starring a host of others titled "Enjoy Every Sandwich". Look for it! But for now... (object) (embed)
