Fri, 09 Dec 2016 11:30:40

(image) The exciting evolution of revenue management continues to develop in the hospitality industry. Initiatives in revenue management by hotel groups and hospitality vendors started in the 1980s, focused mostly on room revenue. Over the last few years, the official evolution path in revenue management has grown to include virtually every revenue stream, affecting colleagues throughout the property, writes Datavision’s Sherry Marek. A significant amount of data is now available to the team at the property level or at the corporate level to assist in the decision making/tracking process, she says. Many properties use the term “revenue optimization” to encompass the process, and use the title in the job description.

Fri, 09 Dec 2016 09:57:44

(image) When most hoteliers consider their revenue management metrics, they most likely think about RevPAR, ADR and occupancy. Perhaps, they would also think about historical and current local demand. But for the majority of hoteliers, their property's star rating wouldn't even occur to them (beyond when they initially start working with an OTA and are creating their profile).

Cutting a Bald Man's Hair | By Georges Panayotis Cutting a Bald Man's Hair | By Georges Panayotis

(image) Franchise contracts are based on a reciprocal commitment between the investor-operator and the brand. Since investment funds set their sights on the hotel industry, such contracts have run into serious pitfalls. More concerned about seeing share prices climb on the stock exchange, financial shareholders have driven corporate communication to the detriment of brand marketing, thereby weakening awareness, the image and the attributes that make up the essential capital of any consumer brand.

The Life of a Hotel Doctor - Paramedics Versus Doctors | By Mike Oppenheim, M.D.The Life of a Hotel Doctor - Paramedics Versus Doctors | By Mike Oppenheim, M.D.

Thu, 08 Dec 2016 10:02:21

(image) My personal encounter with paramedics occurred the day I fell (ironically during my morning exercise walk) and broke my leg. I might have lain there for some time because pedestrians in my middle-class neighborhood pay little attention to the occasional old bearded man lounging on the sidewalk. Luckily, I had taken a detour through an alley behind a restaurant where two Hispanic workers noticed and came to my aid.
