NC vs tones Unoffficial GOTY

Sat, 11 Feb 2012 14:19:41 GMT

(image)

Nuclearcow seems up for it, and has goaded me, reluctantly, to set this up. Who knows where it will end but here it begins.

I am only doing this because I think there is a chance that I know more about this mod than NC does. If it were otherwise I know I'd be trashed. Well.... maybe.

I'd rather have played a pbem but that involves insane amounts of time and fish dinners (ref jerm for info)

On the plus side, it does mean that anyone else can take part and try for the highest score... so feel free to humiliate all of us.

Before we start NC, I'd like to say I am considering either a small or standard world at Prince level with everything activated (revolutions, legends, superspies, techleaking, etc.) and a random starting civ. If you have any objections, speak now, and I may feel free to ignore them:D

Well, come on folks, I am up against a gotm Colonel fer chrissakes!

Leo's Unofficial BTS GotM for October

Sun, 09 Oct 2011 10:34:10 GMT

This is regular speed; none of the epic speeds that I have played were nearly as much fun as this one was.

Your score to beat: 21,743

Mine was a Cultural Victory in 1903

Chose random for all the setups, got a large map, there are 11 civs on it.

Unofficial BTS GotM, September 2011

Sat, 03 Sep 2011 16:41:43 GMT

Your score to beat, 22587.

Level: Noble
Egpyt
Hatshephut

Random land
Random climate
Random sea level
Standard size map.

Yes, I played it already, but that was to make sure it would be able to be won.

I'm sure you all will put my score to shame!

This was a very fun map to play.

GOTY: Legends of the British Revolution

Wed, 09 Mar 2011 14:48:07 GMT

Not GOTM, but GOTY. Game of the Year here, because that is probably what it is. No pomp and circumstance, no formalities, hell, no deadline. Just a few details on the settings, and the sav. file itself.

Now lets have some fun with this.

Custom Game, but with default settings, only locked modified assets.

We be British!

And so it begins. I have only played through about half a game with this Mod, so I do not know all the in's and out's of it. So it will be somewhat of a challenge for us all in that regard.

Here is the sav.

Saves should be named as follows: [username]Jul10BTS.CivBeyondSwordSave

What are the rules?
The rules are fairly simple: Play fairly.

This means that you play within the spirit of the competition. As it is a friendly competition, we like to believe that there is no real incentive to cheat - but unfortunately, people do. Any persons found to be cheating will have their games removed, and there is a strong possibility that they will be banned from participating in the future.

Cheating includes (and is not limited to):

1. Playing the game multiple times and submitting the best effort (or even playing to get knowledge of the map, the replaying then starting the game again).
2. Using any sort of programs to edit the game or save files.
3. Altering the XML or using other mods that give you an unfair advantage.
4. Reloading an earlier save-file and replaying turns in a different way. The only time you may reload a save file is to start a new play session, and you must use the save file from the end of your previous session.

Also, if in doubt, ask. If you think you have found a new loop-hole or exploit, then we strongly suggest that you ask as to its legallity before you use it. The aim of the competition is not to see who can exploit the rules, and as such, we reserve the right to disqualify submissions based on exploits that are discovered later.

Good luck and Enjoy!!

December GOTM

Tue, 15 Dec 2009 18:08:29 GMT

I still don't have regular internet, but thought I'd create one when I have the chance.

Changing things up a bit. The Fall From Heaven 2 Mod will be required to play this one.

If you don't have it, here's the FFH2 main site on Civfanatics.
http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=1
If you don't want to read about it, here's the link to download the MOD: http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=1&act=down
and, you'll need Fall From Heaven2 patch "J" to play this one. Found here: http://kael.civfanatics.net/files/FfH2041j.exe

I'm attaching a save game so we all have the same start. I've played the mod a little, but still am pretty unfamiliar with it overall. Here's our CIV:

(image)

(image) (image)

Its good vs. evil. Us and 1 more civ is evil. 4 good civs and 3 neutral civs. Triumph over good, because good is dumb.

We are elves, so we get tree bonuses. If you're unfamiliar with this game like I sorta am, check the Civapedia (F12 button) a lot. It'll explain things.

The best advice for a newbie to this game is probably to build a LOT more military than you would in a normal civ game. Its brutal out there!

Starting point:
(image)

Highest Normalized Score with ANY victory condition will be declared BTS GOTM Champion for December.

When you complete the game, take a screenshot of the Victory screen where it lists your leadership counterpart in history. Saves should be named as follows: [username]Dec09BTS.CivBeyondSwordSave

This is 1BC's official Beyond the Sword Game of the Month for Aug 2009. BTS version 3.17 is required for play.

A one-city challenge. You cannot have more than 1 city. Noble difficulty, since we're already at a disadvantage. All victory conditions apply. This should be a quick one since there's only 1 city. Can this be won? If no one wins, the highest losing score will be our winner.

Our civ:

This month we are very happy to present you a novelty between the 1BCCiv.com and civ-brasil.com Games of the month.

CivMasters created this month's game. If you guys agree, we will likely continue this merging of GOTMs to future games. Please let us know if you like this idea of the merging of games and we'll likely continue it if you do. Thank you, CivMasters for creating this game! :D

The Civil War - July 2009 (Montezuma-Aztecs)

April 2009 BTS GOTM

Sat, 04 Apr 2009 22:42:54 GMT

This is 1BC's official Beyond the Sword Game of the Month for April 2009. BTS version 3.17 is required for play. The map is huge, the speed is normal, and the difficulty level is noble.I know what a couple of you guys are thinking. "Noble? Thats bloody easy, mate." Ah, but here's the catch. Pay attention:YOU MUST START 3 RELIGIONS BEFORE YOU CAN ATTACK ANYONE and you must start at least 3 religions to win the GOTM. With those 2 conditions in mind, the highest normalized score will win the GOTM. If you declare war on someone before starting 3 religions, you are disqualified from our contest. If you do not found at least 3 religions before the game ends, you are disqualified from our GOTM contest. If someone attacks you, they are fair game for your retaliation, taking their cities, making them a vassal, etc, but you are still not allowed to attack them again if you make peace, unless you have 3 religions founded. For clarification... if they attack you and during your war, they make peace for any reason (including random event, Apostic palace, etc) you must not declare war on them again unless you have founded 3 religions. Make sense? All victory conditions are on, but NO TECH TRADING is also turned on. There are several enemy civilizations. How many? Several. Thats all I have to say about that. ;) This makes founding religions more difficult, so you have been warned.Who is to lead your uber-religious civilization through starting 3 religions and victory? Why, its Asoka of India, of course.Starting location:Highest Normalized Score with ANY victory condition will be declared BTS GOTM Champion for April. When you complete the game, take a screenshot of the Victory screen where it lists your leadership counterpart in history. You may post the screenshot in the GOTM thread and then Email your final save (hopefully one turn just before victory) to gotm@1bcciv.com. Saves should be named as follows: [username]Apr09BTS.CivBeyondSwordSaveSubmissions will be accepted until May 15th (that gives you almost 6 weeks)What are the other rules? The rules are fairly simple: Play fairly. This means that you play within the spirit of the competition. As it is a friendly competition, we like to believe that there is no real incentive to cheat - but unfortunately, people do. Any persons found to be cheating will have their games removed, and there is a strong possibility that they will be banned from participating in the future.Cheating includes (and is not limited to):1. Highest Normalized Score with ANY victory condition will be declared BTS GOTM Champion for March

When you complete the game, take a screenshot of the Victory screen where it lists your leadership counterpart in history. You may post the screenshot in the GOTM thread and then Email your final save (hopefully one turn just before victory) to gotm@1bcciv.com. Saves should be named as follows: [username]Feb09BTS.CivBeyondSwordSave

Submissions will be accepted until APRIL 15th

February 2009 Civ4 BTS Game of the Month

Wed, 28 Jan 2009 22:45:19 GMT

This is for Beyond the Sword expansion version 3.17.
The map is large and the map is Earth2.
Difficulty Level = Prince
Speed = Epic

The only victory condition enabled is Space Race.

That is a BEAUTIFUL starting location, IMHO. I didn't regenerate the map (this was the initial location)

Again, only a SPACE RACE victory condition will win. Highest Normalized Score with this victory condition will be declared BTS GOTM Champion for February.

When you complete the game, take a screenshot of the Victory screen where it lists your leadership counterpart in history. You may post the screenshot in the GOTM thread and then Email your final save (hopefully one turn just before victory) to gotm@1bcciv.com. Sun, 01 Feb 2009 13:32:32 GMT

http://www.civ-brasil.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=1996

One more Innovation!
You'll be playing as Tokugawa on a Pangea, SStandard Normal Sea Leveled map with 5 AIs.
Your enemies: Justinian I, Augustus Caesar, Shaka, Hannibal and Montezuma.
The novelties: All the AIs will be in a Locked War alliance against you.

The difficulty levels of this game (Starter - EmperEmperorte - Deity) make this game almost impossible to be won, even with the handicaps I'll be giving: 3 CittiCitiesettler, 3 Workers, All the Ancient Techs and more. The Challenge of this Game is not to Win, but to survive.

The winner is the one who survive more turns.
The GotM6 (JDM6) can be sent until the February 5th.

The Screenshots:

- The saved games should be sent to jdm@civ-brasil.com under the following default: [Your name].CivBeyondSwordSave
- Your game will be accepted until March 30th.

Cheating rules:
- Simply be honest: Play the game fairly.
- Reloads are not legal. Games in which the reload is found won't be accepted.
- Anyone caught cheating will be banned from the competition.

Cheating includes yet:
1. Using any kind of program that might edit the game or the save itself.
2. Altering the XML or using MODs that might give any advantage.
3. Using trainers or similar programs.

Have Fun!

Jan. 2009 Civ4 BTS Game of the Month

Sun, 04 Jan 2009 16:35:27 GMT

Due to the holiday season we are a little late in getting this out. Thus we have downsized the scale of the map to create a small continent that you must conquer. You will have to contend with 3 opponents each taking up a quadrant of the map. This is basically a blitzkrieg type setting to see who can claim ownership of the island in the quickest amount of time. Can you rise to the occasion? Rhye's Rivers of Babylon

Tue, 16 Dec 2008 22:37:26 GMT

Our second official challenge of the month will also be from the Rhye's Mod. Make sure you are running the most current version, as described HERE!

The goal here is to create an technologically advanced, cultural powerhouse in the Mesopotamia valley. The tribe, they are the Babylonians, and Hammurabi is their leader.

1. Be the first to discover Writing, Code of Laws and Monarchy.
2. Make Babylon the most culturally advanced city in the world by 700 BC (Turn 86).
3. Make Babylon the most populous city in the world by 700 BC (Turn 86).

The Starting Conditions:

The Rules are Simple. Complete each of the 3 UHV quests and post a screenshot indicating you have done this.

The grand champion of this challenge will be determined by a combination of having achieved all three quests, with the highest score, if there should be a tie.

If no one is able to achieve all three quests, then the individual with the highest score, and achieving two quests will be declared winner, and so on and so forth.

Unlike your standard GOTM, three attempts are allowed (on your honour), as the object is not to play through 6000 years of history and end up with the highest score, but to complete the most quests and end up with the highest score. If you miss the first quest, for example, have a go at it again, if you fancy.

Please post a screenshot of your victory and email the final sav to:
gotm@1bcciv.com

Are there any questions? :)

Happy Holidays and Happy Civving! :)

December 2008 CivIV BTS Game of the Month

Tue, 25 Nov 2008 10:57:04 GMT

I wanted to shake some things up and do things a little differently this month.

This is for Beyond the Sword expansion version 3.17.
The map is huge and continents.
Difficulty Level = Prince
Speed = Epic (You have 5 full weeks to complete it)

Pay attention as these are unusual settings for us normally:
City Flipping after Conquest is ON
Advanced Starting Points is ON and raised a bit to 2000 starting points (use them wisely or fall behind early)
No Technology Trading is ON

All Victory Conditions are on, but we will only accept Domination or Conquest victories this month.

So this is a war mongering game this month. Who is to lead you to such a war victory?
(image)
Why, its Sean of Rome! Why did I use Julius instead of Augustus? For the Organized trait. Now you can afford more cities and maybe not fall too far behind with no tech trading. Be careful with that No tech trading setting!

With the Advanced Starting Points, here is your starting area:
(image)

Settings recap
(image)

Again, only Domination or Conquest victories will be accepted in our December GOTM challenge. Highest Normalized Score with those 2 victory conditions will be declared BTS GOTM Champion for December.

When you complete the game, take a screenshot of the Victory screen where it lists your leadership counterpart in history. You may post the screenshot in the GOTM thread and then Email your final save (hopefully one turn just before victory) to gotm@1bcciv.com. Saves should be named as follows: [username]Dec08BTS.CivBeyondSwordSave

Submissions will be accepted until the end of December.

What are the rules?

Rhye's of Ægypt Challenege

Fri, 14 Nov 2008 23:43:58 GMT

So once you've got the update, HERE!, you will be able to play the game on the same conditions as the rest of us.

The first Rhye's challenge is to turn a small tribe on the River Nile into a Cultural Powerhouse of the Mediterranean. They call themselves Egyptians, and their leader is Ramesses, and your quest is as follows:

* Have more than 500 Culture in 700 BC (turn 86)
* Build the Pyramids, the Great Library, and the Great Lighthouse by 250 AD (turn 133)
* Have more than 5000 Culture in 450 AD (turn 143)

The starting conditions are as follows:

And so it begins...

with humble beginnings...

Can you rise to the challenge???? :w00t:

The Rules are Simple. Complete each of the 3 UHV quests and post a screenshot indicating you have done this.

As this is a time locked quest, i.e., you will meet, or not, the 3rd goal by a specific turn (turn 143), the grand champion will be determined by a combination of having achieved all three quests, with the highest score, if there should be a tie.

If no one is able to achieve all three quests, then the individual with the highest score, and achieving two quests will be declared winner, and so on and so forth.

Unlike your standard GOTM, multiple attempts are allowed, as the object is not to play through 6000 years of history and end up with the highest score, but to complete the most quests and end up with the highest score. If you miss the first quest, for example, have a go at it again, if you fancy.

Please post a screenshot of your victory and email the final sav to:
gotm@1bcciv.com

Are there any questions? :)

I've attached a zip of the sav, if this does not work, I've emailed it to NC and he can post it.

New Civ4 GOTM Moderators and email

Sat, 25 Oct 2008 08:33:30 GMT

Greetings all,

Since my time has been ridiculously short the last few months, I have appointed Locus and Nuclearcow GOTM moderators. The game that is currently going on will be official, and I'll help out with graphics and such.

The new email for GOTM submissions is gotm@1bcciv.com

I'm sure they will make sure this is posted in all relevant threads.

I did the Civ4 GOTM's by myself for two years, so maybe with some new guys putting them out there, it will shake things up a bit.

:)

Rhye's Challenge of the Month

Wed, 12 Nov 2008 21:38:30 GMT

Ok. I mentioned this earlier, thought I might bring it up again, but I wanted to gauge interest out there in a Rhye's and Fall of Civilization monthly challenge.

By this I mean a monthly game, staggered with the standard GOTM, where the goal is to complete all 3 UHV points in the quickest time possible (where applicable) and/or with the highest score possible.

For those of you unfamiliar with this Mod, it is packaged in with BtS, and is meant to simulate the Rise and Fall of Civilizations in historical settings with Roughly historical goals, such as the Roman Empire has one goal to conquer Italy, Germany, France and Britain by a certain date. Britain has a goal to have a certain number of colonies established on all the continents by a certain time, and so on and so forth. This is a fun scenario that really has helped me focus my game play on the game within the game, not losing sight of the trees when being overwhelmed by the forest, for example.

So I thought I would start off with one of the Civs that do not have very long term goals, that being Ægypt, starting on the easy difficulty level, with the following victory points in mind:

* Have more than 500 Culture in 700 BC (turn 86)
* Build the Pyramids, the Great Library, and the Great Lighthouse by 250 AD
* Have more than 5000 Culture in 450 AD

A difference between this and normal GOTM would be you could play the scenario as many times as you liked.

So if there is some good interest in this, I will make an official announcement later in the week. ;)

Idea for GOTMs

Thu, 15 May 2008 15:33:33 GMT

Would it be fun to impose artificial, in-game restrictions for players that usually play at a higher difficulty?

Let's say mongoose uploads a prince game. Quite a few people still struggle with that level, so they'll have a hard time winning the game, let alone the GOTM. Those that win regularly on monarch or emperor are just going through the motions, trying to win as quickly as possible. Why not *hamper* these players? Why not say, in this game YOU can build NO cottages, or NO wonders, or you cannot use slavery, or found/ spread religions. Plenty of options to keep things interesting, and make the playing field a bit more level.

Let's say mongoose uploads a noble game. Now prince players can be asked not to build cottages, wonders, etc. Monarch/ emperor players would need even further hampering: In this game you cannot build workers, or settlers, or use ANY civics.

I would be thrilled to play weird games like that, as they'd push me to adapt, and try out new stuff. What say others to this?

You may post the screenshot in the GOTM thread and then Email your final save (hopefully one just before victory) to me. This makes it easier to determine how everyone stands and what the current standard is scorewise if I get held up in the verification of save files. As it is a friendly competition, we like to believe that there is no real incentive to cheat - but unfortunately, people do. Using any sort of programs to edit the game or save files. Altering the XML or using other mods that give you an unfair advantage. The aim of the competition is not to see who can exploit the rules, and as such, we reserve the right to disqualify submissions based on exploits that are discovered later.Good Luck all...[...]

GOTM Ranking System

Thu, 06 Sep 2007 00:07:44 GMT

Greetings all,

The current system of graphics used for the GOTM champs has worked rather well so far, but I get the impression that it has just about run its course. It was fairly simple in the beginning when there weren't any multiple GOTM champions, but lately, with more games under our belt and several multiple winners, it becomes obvious to me (the one that's working to make all these things come together;)) that we need a simpler system in place.

So... I am asking for your input on the following: We will go to a GOTM ranking system where you are ranked based on the number of GOTM's in which you have been the Champion. All GOTM (CivIII, Warlords, BTS) championships will be added together and you will receive a rank (and graphic insignia in place of the current ones) according to the number.

Now, we need to decide what names for the ranks. The two best possibilities would be either military ranks or the CivIV Difficulty Levels:

Victories

1 or 2: Settler/Corporal

3: Chieftain/Sergeant

4: Warlord/Sergeant Major

5: Noble/Lieutenant

6: Prince/Captain

7: Monarch/Major

8: Emperor/LieutenantColonel

9: Immortal/Colonel

10: Diety/BrigadierGeneral

11: SidMeier(added)/Major General

That should give you an idea. What do you guys think... and which would you choose, military or difficulty levels?
