Comment on ‘Vertical’ Is A Fitting, Yet Sobering, Sequel To ‘Sideways’ by Derek Seymour

Sidesways is one of my favourite movies. The book was ok. (It did read like a screenplay at times). I'd definitely like to read Vertical, it sounds really good.

Thanks for the post. I love Oregon pinots and had no idea of my mispronunciation all these years until I heard it today on Splendid Table. I will stick with na-PA for that other place.

I have a bottle of 1971 Don PX Gran Reserva and don't understand the codes on the back. The "L" is L-16345 and the other is BT:1-617889 I could find any explanation for PX, just sherries, thanks! Todd

I'll have to pick up another bottle and check this wine out again... the last time I did, a couple years back, I was not impressed.

We had a wine tasting party with friends and Red Tree Pinot Noir won hands down! We also detected a little chocolate with the cherry! LOVE it!

I buy the Cabernet & Merlot all the time by the case! Nice, dry wine to sip for most any occasion!

L1066. Not sure how you get March 2010. This is either yddd or dyyy. Depending on the bodega. So either day 66 (early March) 2011, or day 106 (Mid April) 2006. The former more likely by this time.

No! L 01703 on La Gitana means Year 0 (2010) Week 17 (Late April ish? Count your calendar if it matters) Day 3 of that week (Tues or Weds, not certain) La Gitana have a ywwdd system all of their own.

The name of the Owner was Tony Hermann and he is currently connected to a winery called Adelaida Cellars in Paso Robles, California. He was the nicest man I've ever worked for; a true connoisseur of wine and of people.

Thank you. I've been there several times but the way the locals pronounce it kind of rolls off them too quickly for one to internalize it! A gorgeous area of the world and the best domestic Pinot Noir ... ah... I miss Oregon and Willemette Valley.

That's alright. I just returned from a trip to NAPA. While there, I visited Viader Vineyards (BTW: absolutely BREATH-TAKING views) and learned the correct way to pronounce a winery which I had been following (and mispronouncing) since they were 'WS wine of the year' in 1998. I had always pronounced it vee-A-der like (Darth Vader with a long 'V'). Turns out it is pronounced like vee-a-DARE or via-DARE. Great wine with a funny name, run by a ROCKSTAR wine maven of the same name. I don't envy your position Tim, your podcast is a veritable minefield of linguistic challenges.

WineQ died, unfortunately, a while back. Good idea, nice execution but not enough customers.

None of the links to WineQ seem to work, are they still in business?
