Re: Password Profiler Secures and Automat...

I'm not sure when this will be fixed. IE7 affects a number of our utilities that work with Internet Explorer, so we're having to investigate all of them. Updated versions will be developed and posted when and if possible.

I am using the final version release of IE 7 and experiencing the this same problem. Are there any plans to make the Password Profiler work with IE 7?

I am now running the release version of IE 7 and I am having the same problem. I recieve the error message "no login sequence has been defined" every time I use PP to log-in to a web site. It only started happening after I installed IE 7. I tried re-installing PP and changing settings in IE to no success. Any thoughts?

You're running a beta version of IE 7, so all bets are off. You're on your own. Any time you elect to use a beta version of any program, you should expect to have problems with it. By definition, beta versions are not complete, they're still in the testing phase.

We are probably not going to bother investigating compatibility issues with any of our utilities unless and until the final version of IE7 is released. Developing/testing with beta versions is usually a complete waste of time because you have no way to know what may change between the beta and final release versions.

Problem with Web Root Spyware

Sun, 16 Apr 2006 23:18:17 GMT

This program shuts down Webroot Spyware and will not uninstall completely or even run with the Spyware program. This created a major problem and this program seems worse than useless.

I've flagged this for attention by the Utilities team.

There is a major security flaw in password profiler (ver 1, build 15). To complete a login, password profiler copies the user name and password to the clipboard. Well, unfortunately the last thing it copies to the clipboard is the unencrypted password. Even if you close password profiler, your password will be available to whomever is able to come along and perform a paste or ctrl v. Seems like a pretty easy thing to fix, but it should be fixed.

Password Profiler Secures and Automat...

As for any new ideas for Password Profiler, I have no new ones just now. However, there are already some sensible suggestions already in this thread. Developer Hong indicated that PP was a work in progress and that a version 2 was forthcoming. Is Hong gone? Is there good application documentation remaining to take PP further?

There has not been any new development on Password Profiler. However, I will explore the possibility of doing an update. Let me know if you have any feature requests.

Hi Robyn,

What's the current development status of Password Profiler? It looks like no work has progressed since 11/26/03 (v1 bld 15). In the posts, it seems like both you and developer Hong agreed that there were several improvements to be done and bugs to be squashed? A version 2 was impliedly promised. A lot of time has passed. What gives?

Agreed. Firefox compatability would make this quite useful.

Hi,

I've used password profiler since it's release and have found it very comfortable to work with. Though my switch to Firefox crippled a bunch of the automated features, a few extra clicks on my end are no big deal. That said, I'd really like to see this program updated soon - any chance of that?

My wish list:

* a strong password generator. (MOST wanted feature)

* an option to change the master keyword.

* an option to minimize the application to the system tray instead of the task bar, while still an active window.

Thanks!

OK.

The BHO DLL is inetLockBHO.dll

The following key should be present in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{E02E86EB-220B-4B59-A251-F849405E1D64}

The default value is "inetLock route".

If the key is present, the following key should also be there:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{E02E86EB-220B-4B59-A251-F849405E1D64}

The Inprocserver32 subkey should point to the location where inetLockBho.dll is installed. Something like

C:\Program Files\PC Magazine Password Profiler\inetLockBho.dll

Verify that the file is actually there.

The progid entry should have inetLockBho.inlBho.1 as default value.
The programmable subkey should be present (no default value set).
The typelib subkey should have the following default value:  {AD9D19E0-5BA9-4DB2-B90D-568E01868586}
The VersionIndependentProgID subkey should have inetLockBho.inlBho as default value.

If all the above conditions are met, this is not a problem with the installation of the BHO. In that case, only the author can answer.

If they are not, please re-register the DLL or edit the registry manually to restore these values.

Good luck.
