custom dataset usage

Hello, I added a custom search feature that does not use the indexed data. How do I incorporate the DataSet into the search results? Here is my code: protected void GrammarPatternSearchButton_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { string strGrammarPattern = GrammarPatternTextBox.Text.Trim(); int iPatternID = dbRoutines.GetGrammarPatternID(strGrammarPattern); string category = GetSelectedCategories(); string[] categories = category.Split(new char[] { ',' }); DataSet ds = grammarPatternCreate.CreateDataSet(iPatternID, categories); UltimateSearchOutput1.DataSource = ds.Tables[0].DefaultView; //*this line } The web page never returns from the post back and no data is shown. Any suggestions? williamj

MS Server 2016

Has anyone installed or tested the UltimateSearch on the latest 2016 server? It is designed like Windows 10 and uses IIS 10.0. I haven't seen a lot of difference in the IIS 10.0 and the 7.5, but it is a pretty new system in our server room. I've tried to search on some posts for this answer and though I see some various possibilities, I'm needing a little verification. 1. Do I install this on the Server itself, or do I install it on my machine and copy the folder over to the server? 2. My root folder on the server, since it will have more than one website, is C:/inetpub/wwwroot/mainsite/ When installing, if I install to the server, is it going to try and install to C:/inetpub/wwwroot/Karmasoft/.... or will I have an option to change that default? If install to my local machine, there is no IIS installed, to there is no C:/inetpub/wwwroot so where is it going to attempt to install? Well, that should do for now and I'm sure I'll have additional questions later. Thanks

indexing aspx pages

Hello, We are having a problem while indexing our .aspx pages. We have created a separate index project which does the index for the pages and documents in our actual project. The problem is; since our indexing project has no session, indexing .aspx files failing but indexing docs are working fine because accessing document does not require session. I was wondering if there is a way to only index the .aspx pages without rendering it?, treat them as a simple .html page ? Thanks

Object reference error while indexing

Hello, We are trying to index the pages and docs for our 2 projects. We implement the search tool separately to the projects (separate dlls separate config files etc.) Each project works fine in development server (IIS express) but problem happens in QA server For the first project; We can successfully index the pages but when I search, the results look like this Results 1 - 10 for xxx. Timeout Your connection to the database has expired (for security reasons). To re-establish, go back to the login page and login with your user id and password. Votre ... http://qaIP/xx/yy/xyz.aspx Links are fine, if I click the link it takes me to the pages but I think during index operation there are some security issues. maybe in IIS ? For the 2nd Project I am getting an object reference error while indexing the site. The indexing starts but then it fails and display an error. Index operation failed. Exception Message: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. Started At: 10:15:40 Finished At: 10:15:45 Indexed Pages: 69 If I try to re-index, then it gives below error Index operation failed. Suppose if I search for my website's name in Google, it will show the website as Main heading. Under that there will be 2 columns of sections showing the sub levels of the website. I want to have the same view if I do this in Karamasoft in website. Please help. :)

Ultimatesearch stopped indexing on many sites

On many sites, the search functionality has stopped functioning.  When I attempt to do a full index, below is what I see in the log.  Please help this is a rather large issue for us at the moment.

For awhile now, our server event logs have been getting filled with UriFormatException warnings for ASP.NET 4.0.30319.0. I will paste the log below. It's pointing to UltimateSearch but I cannot figure out which part is causing the problem. I can remove the control and no events are logged. There are no errors on the page and the search functionality works fine. Has anyone else seen this? Failed index

I use Ultimate Search to index a folder of PDFs. It was working fine. Sometime in September it stopped. I think that is around the time I migrated the server from a physical box to Hyper-V Virtual Machine. It will find my PDFs but under "indexed pages" but it has a status of "failed". I am using IIS 8.5. I checked that the IIS_IUSRS account has full control. I even added Network Service to full control and Everyone to full control. It seems as if it still doesn't have rights to Log and Index.

IFilter cannot initialize for Office file

I have a simple test solution consisting of little more than UltimateSearchInclude with a simple config file and am using the built-in admin page to index Microsoft Office files. All the files are found, and the body text of the PPTX and DOCX files is indexed, but metadata such as the documents' internal titles is only indexed in some environments. Working environment: - Windows Sever 2008 32-bit; IIS 7; Office 2007 installed Failing environment: - Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit; ASP .NET development server; Office 2010 installed The error message is, "IFilter cannot initialize for file...", but I cannot determine why the IFilter cannot initialize. For XLSX file the additional error message, "Specified part does not exist in the package.", is logged, and no content is indexed. What can I do to determine why this is working in some environments and not others and to correct it? There is also an additional problem, which is that in the "working" environment, the XLSX and PPTX (but not DOCX) files have their Categories tags indexed as the titles rather than their actual Title tags. Metadata is, of course, not indexed at all for Office 97-2003 files. Contents of UltimateSearch.config: C:\TFS_Source\Unpublished\LocalSearchSimple\documents ~/UltimateEditorInclude ~/UltimateSearchInclude ~/UltimateSitemapInclude ~/UltimateSpellInclude ~/UltimateTabstripInclude asp aspx asmx htm html txt pdf doc ppt docx pptx xls xlsx xlsm http://localhost:8266/documents C:\TFS_Source\Unpublished\LocalSearchSimple\documents about [...]

Rank by file type

Is there a way to rank the search results by file type?  I want the web pages to rank higher than the PDF files.

FIPS error with PDF indexer

On a machine with FIPS algorithm policy enabled in Windows, we are seeing the following error in the logs for each PDF file (but not files of other types) that Karamasoft UltimateSearch attempts to index: Cannot load [PATHNAME]. This implementation is not part of the Windows Platform FIPS validated cryptographic algorithms.

PPTX Indexing Error

UltimateSearch 3.7 is incorrectly indexing some of the text from PowerPoint files. Apparently, the indexer is stringing together all PowerPoint text areas without inserting spaces or other breaks between the separate blocks, meaning that some words cannot be found. Is there any way to correct this? Steps to reproduce: 1. Create a new PowerPoint file (I used PowerPoint 2010). 2. On the first page, set the title to "The Hobbit" and the subtitle to "There and Back Again. 3. Under File -> Info, set the document title to "Book List" 4. Save the file, add it to a directory indexed by UltimateSearch, and run the indexer. 5. Use UltimateSearch to search for "Hobbit". The document will not be found. 6. Use UltimateSearch to search for "There". The document will not be found. 7. Use UltimateSearch to search for "HobbitThere" as one word. The document will be found.

Search from console app?

Hello, Can I use UltimateSearch in a console app? Thanks.

Indexing via scanDirectory values

I'm trying to index a directory of files via the value but have been unsuccessful getting incremental indexing to work. The initial index works and I am able to create the index from a remote site but incremental indexing does not identify any additional data. According to the UltimateSearch.config file I need to specify a value when is used, but I'm not sure how to do that. The path that needs to be indexed is not directly accessible from the web - the files sit on the web server behind IIS and application security. ScanDirectory is defined as this: C:\inetpub\wwwroot\FileRoom\FileExplorer This does result in a working index when 'Full Index' is used. Is my incremental indexing problem caused by the lack of defined virtual path in the config file, and if so how should I define this? Thanks.

Indexing removing UltimateSearch.term files

Hi,I ran a full index on my site, which took over 18 hours to index 1084 files and got an index completed successfully, but once completed, the search was no longer working and the following message was being displayed when searching for anything:Read TutorialIndex files missing. Click the link to read the tutorial. If the link doesn't work, open C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\Karamasoft\ASP.NET3.5\UltimateSearch\v3.6\Controls\Documents\Tutorial.htm in your browser.http://localhost/Karamasoft/ASP.NET3.5/UltimateSearch/v3.6/Controls/Documents/Tuorial.htmDoes anyone know why these files aren't getting created?I have full permissions allowed on the Index folder, I can't understand how it's failing to recreate the files.Thanks[...]

Search not finding indexed pages

Hello, So I am new to Ultimate Search, and I was called in to help diagnose and solve an issue with a client site that is using UltimateSearch. It appears that when performing a search for text on an indexed page, no matter what text I search for, it never returns the page that the text came from. Rather, it will return links to search result pages for another internal search that is also used to search for these pages, but not the page itself. Again, I will stress that I know very little about UltimateSearch, and may not be describing the problem well enough, but I would like to get the troubleshooting process started.

wildcards in UltimateSearch.config

Hi, Is it possible to use wildcards to include sub-folders that we want karmasoft to index? For example, we have the following folder structure: Docs ->Sports -->draft1 --->pdfs.. -->draft2 --->pdfs.... -->released --->pdfs..... ->News -->draft1 --->pdfs.... -->released -->pdfs... ->Weather -->draft1 --->pdfs... Is it possible to specify in karmasoft UltimateSearch.config to only index documents under the "released" folder (eg. c:\Docs\*\released\*) If not, what are the other options I have if I just want to index documents under the "released" folders but not "draft1/draft2" folders... Thanks.

re-index automation

Is it possible to configure ultimate search to periodically re-index automatically? If so can you point me to documentation on how to configure it to do so? Thank you.
