Re: The third readers-writers problem

Thanks for the solution. Looking at the solution proposed on Wikipedia ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wi... ), is the mutex called "r" the equivalent of your "orderMutex"?

Re: What is the difference between /dev/ttyUSBx and /dev/ttyACMx?

Tue, 06 Aug 2013 23:25:13 -0000

I'm not sure why you are saying that it is not possible for the device to announce itself as ttyUSB? I can set how the usb announces itself using various registers on the device. there is example code that changes my microcontroller from cdc to HID or mass storage etc.. Unfortunately nothing that seems to conform to the ttyUSB spec. When i force this driver my device enumerates successfully as ttyUSB one time, but not again until i reboot. i get the following error message:

[878887.203226] usbserial_generic 5-2:1.0: Generic device with no bulk out, not allowed.

i'm going to spend some more time looking for usbserial documentation but any constructive advice would be welcome! thanks again

Done. The indentation of the last example was lost when I switched the system used to render this blog. Thanks for the note.

What about bitcoin.de, their service seems to be working, still.

The article explains precisely why this would not be possible for it to show as ttyUSB. Check the Ubuntu help center and forums if Ubuntu insists on talking to your device.

thanks for the post.. i'm using an avr32 bit chip with USB embedded in it. When i connect to linux (ubuntu 12.10 64bit), the device shows up as ttyACM0 and the PC tries sending AT+ commands for about a minute after my device connects. quite annoying because i'm doing development work and the device is unavailable during this routine. do you know if it is possible to disable this mount routine from the PC? or better yet is it possible to change my device configuration so it shows up as ttyUSB?

Just a quick note from localbitcoins.com operator: our service is not actually a escrow service, so we changed the name from "escrow" to "LocalBitcoins Transaction" or just "Transaction" where the connection is obvious.

Hi, I'm part of www.bitcoinnordic.com where we also accept Euro Sepa transfers free of charge.

Our price for selling bitcoins is the current mtgox rate + 9%. While 9% may sound like a lot, for large amounts you will often get a better deal with us because we execute our orders on mtgox, the world's largest market.

If you execute a large order on one of the smaller European markets with little market depth, you will often risk pushing up the price more than 9%.

Just wanted to add this option to an otherwise great list.

 nice try, intersango staff !

Re: How to exchange Euros for Bitcoins and vice versa

I use https://intersango.com . I know that a lot of people are angry at the owners and operators of Intersango and blame them for the bitcoinica fiasco, which they (incompletely) took over shortly before it was robbed, but I have no reason to doubt that they are honest and competent.

(It's easy for me to say, because I didn't lose anything in the bitcoinica fiasco, since I never felt right about entrusting my money to bitcoinica.)

The https://intersango.com exchange itself (separate from bitcoinica) has an excellent track record of security, reliability, and service. Even after the fiasco, the trade volume and liquidity on Intersango are better than most other exchanges -- not as good as Mtgox, and about the same as https://bitcoin.de .

Thanks for mentioning https://bitcoin.de. I haven't tried it yet.

I would add bitcoin.de, which is p2p exchange similar to BitMarket.
Edit: also bitstamp.net works nicely with SEPA transfer. It is very easy to set up an account and SEPA transfers usually take only day or two. It is based in slovenia.

Thanks for mentioning localbitcoins.com!

You can buy web hosting, Amazon and other vendors gift cards, reimburse friends for lunch, and so on. As long as you can exchange bitcoins for cash, you can also use it as a token of value.

Business is expanding as well as awareness, and startups such as http://coinbase.com/ will probably increase bitcoin visibility soon.
