XM and Sirius the winners this week? Sure, I guess you do have to award any company that can convince a Citigroup analyst that a monopoly is somehow good for consumers. But if they're the winners, consumers are the losers. After all, when have monopolies ever been GOOD for consumers? Who really belives that anyone would become the largest share holder two days before a MAJOR acquition without INSIDER information? This needs further investigation!!!

Not everyone did well. The mortgage and real estate hurt very much. Had too much in that end of it. However, recovered a good part in automotive and oils.

Contrary to what the author said about Legg Mason, I still think Carl Icahn is the man. His business savvy never ceases to amaze me (he's tied to nearly 40 different companies http://www.newsvisual.com/newsvisual/2007/07/icahns-connecti.html ). Love him or hate him, you have to at least grudingly admire him.

I do merger arb in my own account. I put $ to work all the way down. August was not fun, but I was up nicely by q-end. Any fund not up huge should be laughed out of town. Opportunity was everywhere! Easy money is done, but there are still some small pockets of opportunity.
