A1 closes northbound between J73-74 with the following diversion:
A1 Northbound closed at Junction 73 Derwenthaugh Interchange Entry Slip and Mainline to Scotswood Interchange Junction 74. Traffic Will from the mainline will be diverted Via Northbound Exit Slip, Onto the A694, Onto the A695, Diverted onto Scotswood Bridge, Onto Scotswood Road Westbound and then onto A1 Junction 74 Scotswood Entry Slip. The Travelling public will gain access to the A1 Northbound Prior to Junction 75.

Public Being Diverted from the Northbound Entry will be Diverted Northbound up Derwenthaugh Road and then merge into the main diversion route on the A694

Brandling Park Area Improvements

Work on Phase 1 of the above scheme will commence on Monday 7 November 2016,
and is anticipated to take approximately 12 weeks to complete.
These improvements will be carried out on Brandling Park and on Clayton Road,
between Great North Road and Back Brandling Park.
In order to carry out the works safely and efficiently, access and turning restrictions,
lane closures, temporary traffic signals and temporary road closures, will be operational
as and when the relevant signs are displayed.
You should be prepared for the road layout to change regularly as the works progress.
Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
While the majority of the works will be carried out Monday to Friday, some works may
unavoidably be carried out at weekends.
We apologise in advance for the unavoidable noise and disruption, however it will be
kept to a minimum at all times.
Temporary road closures will be notified separately in advance.

Whilst the majority of the works will be carried out during normal working hours Monday to Friday, some works may need to be carried out overnight or at weekends.
Road Closures and Lane Restrictions (Traffic Lights)
In order to carry out the works safely and efficiently, there will at times be lane closures and temporary traffic signals, together with sections of footpath and cycle-track closed. There will however be signed diversion routes for pedestrians and cyclists.

When we carry out road resurfacing towards the end of the works, the College Street / Durant Road / Ellison Place junction will need to be closed temporarily.




Elswick Road between the junctions of Westgate Road and Sovereign Place, Corporation Street, Westgate Road, Rye Hill Roundabout

Road closures include: Back Lancaster Street, Back York Street (East), Colby Court, Somerset Place, Gloucester Terrace, Park Close, Sovereign Place, Back Warrington Road and Back Elswick Road. This is to allow for the construction of raised tables / road humps and will be for a short period of time with diversion routes in place.
• Closure is for all vehicles.
• Access will be permitted for emergency services.
• Access will be permitted for pedestrians.
• Access will be permitted for residents in cul de sacs.
• The closures will be implemented in phases and will be in operation when the relevant signs are displayed.

Killingworth Road – from its junction with Back Gallalaw Terrace (north) in a northerly direction for its entire length within Newcastle City Boundary.
Salters Bridge (Hollywood Avenue) – for its entire length.
Great North Road over slip – between its junctions with Great North Road and B1318.
Killingworth Road - The reason for the closure is to ensure that health and safety is maintained whilst bridge replacement and road widening works are carried out.

Salters Bridge, Great North Road over slip and High Street – The restrictions are required to mitigate against rat running and to improve traffic flows including public transport provision along the Great North Road corridor.

Pembroke Avenue

Queen Victoria Road

Redheugh Bridge – from the mid point of the Redheugh Bridge northwards to the centre of its junction with St James Boulevard and Scotswood Road.

Scotswood Road – from its junction with Redheugh Bridge in a south westerly direction for a distance of 50m.
Scotswood Bridge (including slip roads) – between its junctions with Scotswood Road and its boundary with Gateshead Council.

Access permitted for pedestrians, cyclists and emergency vehicles.
It is anticipated that the Redheugh Bridge closure will take place on Sunday 9 October 2016 and the Scotswood Bridge closure on Sunday 16 October 2016. The remainder of the order is as a contingency in the event of unforeseen difficulties.
