Tommy Kane's Art Blog

Last Build Date: Tue, 20 Feb 2018 12:19:52 +0000

After reading that Mueller indicted the 13 Russians, I realized that my artwork must have been confiscated by them. My computer was hacked and this great work of art was stolen in 2016. It seems that the Russian bots thought my flattering drawing of Trump would make a fantastic digital poster to help get Donnie elected. It turns out, the KGB felt my portrayal of Mr. T made him look like their kind of president. The right-wing, pretend family values conservatives took one look at this baby on their interweb devices and ran to the nearest fake rally held by the Kremlin. Now that this has come to light, there have been some rumors circulating that I am going to be asked to paint Trump for the National Portrait Gallery in DC. I may have to start hoarding tubes of orange paint.

Post No Bills

Fri, 16 Feb 2018 10:55:00 +0000

Chloe Kim has been the best thing about the ADlympics so far. I've watched it non-stop. I was wondering how all the snowboard companies got away with having enormous flying billboards throughout the competition. At a certain point, all I was looking at was a giant logo festival. I'm sure advertisers are figuring out if the snowboards could be made into the die-cut shape of a chicken McNugget or a Snickers bar. Clients would love to see their actual product flying through the air. I'm sure we will soon see LED screens on the bottom of the snowboards. It would be nice to see a video playing underneath the board of someone brushing their teeth with Colgate toothpaste as Shaun White glides through the air. Don't worry folks, it will all be here soon enough.

Here is the full drawing, proving once again that I'm mental.

Dead Sea Part 2

Tue, 13 Feb 2018 14:20:00 +0000

This is the second piece of my Dead Sea Scroll drawing. The left hand page for your viewing pleasure. Next I will post the full image.

The Right Dead Sea Scroll

Mon, 12 Feb 2018 12:42:00 +0000

This is the right hand page. One more double page drawing I've done. It's my Dead Sea Scroll sketch. I'll post the left hand page in a day or two. Stay tuned.

Another Full Monty

Fri, 09 Feb 2018 12:50:00 +0000

Here is the drawing in it's entirety. It's nice to see the whole picture.

The Left Hair

Thu, 08 Feb 2018 12:26:00 +0000

This is the second half of the drawing I posted the other day. The left side of the page. Bet you didn't see that coming. That is some serious hair. Tomorrow I'll post the whole drawing so you can see it in its glory.

The Right Hair

Tue, 06 Feb 2018 11:21:00 +0000

Again, this is part of a two page drawing. This is the right hand page. It's part of my fixation with old movie stars hairdos. I'll post the left side of the drawing in a day or two.

The Full Monty

Fri, 02 Feb 2018 14:20:00 +0000

Here is a look at the entire drawing that I did in my Stillman & Birn sketchbook.

Thems The Breaks

Thu, 01 Feb 2018 11:00:00 +0000

My latest ceramic creation busted. This time I am happy to report it was not my fault. Most every time one of my pieces breaks it is due to my incompetence. On this occasion, the shelf above my piece in the kiln broke in half during the firing and landed on my plate. Thems the breaks.

For those who guessed that the left hand page of my drawing was a hooded falcon. You were correct. Most of you got it, by the way.

Mon, 29 Jan 2018 11:15:00 +0000

This is the right hand page of a double page spread drawing I did. Guess what's on the other side? You'll never get it. I'll show you on wednesday.

Fri, 19 Jan 2018 11:16:00 +0000

Yes I occasionally draw in public.

Monica Vitti

Wed, 10 Jan 2018 12:15:00 +0000

I constantly watch old movies on FilmStruck. The hairdo's rule in the 1950's.

Mon, 08 Jan 2018 11:10:00 +0000

A drawing I did of my sister's collection of tiny world travel souvenirs.

Toy Monkey

Sun, 07 Jan 2018 13:01:00 +0000

The Schwall family, battery operated monkey.

Thu, 04 Jan 2018 13:03:00 +0000

This is a drawing I did of my in-laws Christmas tree ornaments, layered one on top of the other until I formed a mountain.

New Ceramic

Tue, 02 Jan 2018 10:51:00 +0000

This is my latest ceramic in progress. I finished the painting on greenware. Now it goes into the kiln for the first firing to see what happens. Fingers crossed.

I've Made Contact

Sat, 23 Dec 2017 10:47:00 +0000

Most kids or young hipsters won't even understand what this is. This is an illustration joke. I've made my drawings look as if they are photographs on a contact sheet. What is a contact sheet, you might ask? It's sort of like a rotary phone dial. Something commonly used a century ago. When one used to take photographs, they just didn't instantly appear in a folder in your pocket. You used to have to do something called, waiting. Once your photographs were taken, you brought the unprocessed film to a print shop. A day later you got a contact sheet. That was rows of tiny images printed on a single page. You'd use a magnifier type object (loop) to suss out the ones you desired. Then those selects got printed out, after more, you guessed it, WAITING. Half my life in advertising was spent hunched over contact sheets. So this advert I did for my new book is targeted at older folks. People who would know what a subway token is.

Let's Meat In The Dog Park

Thu, 21 Dec 2017 10:55:00 +0000

Ohh how cute. Can I pet your doggii...? WAIT, that's actually one of those things I buy shrink-wrapped in a supermarket. Ew, I don't like thinking about those things as animals with feelings and families. BUT, can I pet the other one? Ohh, ew wait, that's one of those things that I can buy in a bucket at KFC. That drawing is not right because it tries to get me to think of THEM as animals with feelings. I'm going to unfollow you. Me gobbling down a body part or two of one of those things at a drive-through, fast food window is perfectly fine but you making that drawing is GROSS.

A Most Well Known Camera

Wed, 20 Dec 2017 11:08:00 +0000

My camera makes people want to take up the hobby themselves. It is an inspiration to many. You can see the results of my hard work in my new book.

Going To The Birds

Tue, 19 Dec 2017 11:12:00 +0000

Another multi layered, multi image illustration. I use my sketchbook to work out idea for my future ceramics.

How Many?

Mon, 18 Dec 2017 10:58:00 +0000

Everyone must be shocked at this point, at how many ways I can come up with ideas for illustrating the notion of, "All My Photographs Are Made With Pens." This nut, Tommy Kane, is going to have to run out at some point. Now you know why I succeeded in advertising. If other creatives had an idea or two, I had ten. I'd wake in the middle of the night from a sound sleep with idea after idea. It was torture for me. I could never shut the idea machine off. Unfortunately for all of you, this may never stop. I apologize in advance. The only way it can stop is if the stupid book sells out. That may take a while.
