Chicken and Dumplings

Cold winter days and a hot pot of soup just seem to go together, don't you think? After recently finding a nifty, time-saving trick for shredding cooked chicken breast (use the dough hook on a Kitchen Aid mixer, or the cookie paddles on a Bosch), I turned the pot of broth into Chicken and Dumplings. Believe me - it was yummy and went down well! 12 C. chicken broth 2 celery stalks, sliced 2

Baked Potato Soup

Even though I haven't posted in ages, I've still been eating. So I thought I'd pop on quick and share a delicious fall recipe with you - Baked Potato Soup. This is not your mama's potato soup - thin and brothy with sliced hotdogs. Mine is thick, rich, filling, has no meat and no fat. Well, 4 outta 5 ain't bad. See what you think!2 extra large baking potatoes3/4 C. butter3/4 C. flour3 tsp.

Cherry Rice Salad

Do you ever go to a church potluck and instantly know who brought what? Or whose dish that casserole is in? I have been treated to this delicious salad since the early days of my marriage, thanks to one very sweet lady in our church. It's "her" salad, and a church function just wouldn't be complete without it. Once the first spoonful is gone, the rice just seems so pearly white! I hope you like

Gosh - is it just me, or are there a ton of Chili recipes out there? My word! If you tried a new recipe every day, it could take you many years of Autumns and Winters to get through them all! My family and I prefer the simple, everyday version over those with jalapenos, buffalo meat, white beans, or sliced zucchini. Believe me - my recipe is nothing special, but it is hearty and delicious.

Love that!8 oz. Philadelphia cream cheese, softened1/2 C.

Chocolate Chip Cheese Ball

I got this recipe out of an old Quick Cooking magazine. I remember when I found it ~ we were heading to Des Moines for Thanksgiving, and my annual Christmas Party (for my girlfriends, remember?) was coming up so I had that on my brain. Always in search of a great recipe, I grabbed all the Christmas issues and brought with for the trip. Paging through one, I found this recipe and knew I'd have to

Hot Caramel Apple Cider

Doesn't that sound yummy? And, oh, it's so easy! Just pour yourself a mug of apple cider and squeeze in a few squirts of caramel ice cream topping. Heat in the microwave and stir in a few drops of vanilla and you're all set. If you wanted to make this fancy, you could spray some whipped cream on top and drizzle with more caramel syrup. Mocha Punch

Gary and I were married December 12th, 1992. After we got home from our honeymoon and before Christmas (I know - crazy, right?) I threw a get-together for all of my potential new friends in our home. Okay, it was really for all of his friend's wives! Gary was one of the last in his bunch to get married, so I was the new kid on the block, not to mention the youngest! It was a little intimidating

Sweet & Spicy Snack Mix

This recipe came from my friend, Jill. I can't count the number of times I've made this when the weather starts getting cooler. Yummy! Peanut Butter Chex

When my best friend and I were just beginning our babysitting careers, we babysat together for a young couple's Bible Study. One of the moms, Gwenn, brought this snack for us and all the kids to eat in the basement while they met upstairs. We thought it was so yummy that we got the recipe from her that night. Since my friend was spending the night with me, we made it later at my house using Corn

Fruit Tea

The idea for this recipe came from one I'd read over at Lauren's a long time ago. I've made some changes to it - so much so that it really doesn't even resemble hers at all anymore. But I do like to give credit where credit is due, and without her sharing her recipe for Fruit Tea, I wouldn't have this yummy one today. So thanks, Lauren! 2 qts. fresh-brewed Lipton iced tea 3/4 C. sugar (or more) 1
