Moppets

2009-04-06T13:42:48.377-10:00

Ever since I joined MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) at a nearby church, Abigail has attended the Moppets class for her age group where she has playtime, "Temple Talk," craft-time, music class and Bible stories every Wednesday morning.

On a recent play-date, Abigail and Amelia had fun playing dress-up and dancing to Mickey Mouse music. So carefree!

2009-04-06T09:02:01.089-10:00

Our next drive was from Hager City to my mom's in Chicagoland, via Rockford. We were able to have dinner with our wonderful friends Sue and Aaron there.

Hager City, WI

2009-04-06T08:56:36.713-10:00

Upon leaving Shawano, we drove west, across the state of Wisconsin, to Hager City (very close to the twin cities) to see his maternal grandparents and other extended family. Here is Justin, using his grandfather's snow-blower:Great Grandma Greene, on New Year's Eve, serving her great grandchildren:Justin's cousin Nicole:Abigail's second cousin, Courtney:Abigail with her 2nd cousin Hailey (birds of a feather!):Justin's Aunt Terry and Uncle Mark:Justin's cousin Krista and her husband Cam:It was so special to see so many family members in one trip and have Abigail get to know all of them better.Photo Permission Required[...]

We drove north from Chicago to Shawano, WI (near Greenbay) to visit with Justin's extended family (his dad's side). Here are Grandpa Hohn and his sister "Great Aunt Ellen."

Visit with Friends

2009-02-07T06:53:22.052-10:00

Ray, Cindy and Robert (friends from Wyoming) came to visit us at Mom's house in the Chicago area. (They were on their way to see family in Wisconsin.) BIG shout-out of thanks to them for going out of their way to spend time with us - we miss them so much!
(image)
During their 2-day visit, we enjoyed Chicago pizza, Chinese food, driving around downtown Chicago, shopping...
(image)
(image)
Abigail was enthralled with all of Robert's gadgets.

What a spread, thanks to Grammy in Arkansas! We ate heartily and relaxed with family.

New Haircut

2009-01-10T09:50:59.355-10:00

Proving to Mom and Dad she's a big girl now, Abigail experience her first haircut without tears in her eyes. She actually seemed to enjoy the process!
(image)
(image)
The cut on Abigail's nose/lip is from an incident with a laundry basket. She decided it would be a good idea to climb in it while dressed in her "Larry the Cucumber" costume, resulting in falling and catching an edge on the basket. Funny thing is, when her Sunday school teacher saw her marred face and asked if she had a cat at home, Abigail responded, "Yes." There seems to be a disconnect between desire and reality!

Visiting Santa

2009-01-10T09:44:16.170-10:00

This is the first year that instead of running with tears in the opposite direction, Abigail actually sat on Santa's lap and had a little chat."Thank you for the coloring book!"This is where Santa told me how he remembered me when I was a child and how proud he is of the way I turned out; he added that he recalled I loved books and Justin loved cars. :) Hee hee - cute.Afterwards we did a little shopping at the mall......and ate at a Mexican restaurant.Photo Permission Required[...]

Decorating for Christmas

2009-01-10T10:12:20.094-10:00

Since we would be gone for Thanksgiving, we decorated our house the previous weekend. Abigail is finally old enough to help with the ornaments - and she derived SO much delight from this activity!

Somehow we neglected to photograph our big tree, but here is the small one above the fireplace.

Kohl's Children's Museum

2009-01-10T09:22:51.852-10:00

My mother purchased an annual "grandmother's" pass at her local children's museum. We were able to join MY childhood friend's daughters there for an afternoon of playing!

The Circus

2009-01-10T08:46:47.520-10:00

Since Justin had a business trip to NY this week, Abigail and I took our own little trip to Chicago. On the spur of the moment, my mother decided to take us to the circus, and my brother Lawrence was able to join us after work. (Since returning last June from his year in Mexico, he has been living at Mom's and working as an engineer in another Chicago suburb.)
(image)
We were enthralled by the acrobats, animals, clowns and various circus stunts... "The Greatest Show on Earth" - right?
(image)
(image)
Lawrence was actually in a college circus where he concentrated on developing his juggling, tight rope walking and unicycling skills. He's a regular hero to his many nieces and nephews.

Brown County

2009-01-10T08:28:27.472-10:00

While our friend Cindy was visiting from Wyoming, we drove through Brown County state park. We were a few weeks late for the famous fall foliage, but it was beautiful nevertheless. Most of all, I appreciated spending time with my dear friend and "auntie" to Abigail.

Happy Halloween

2009-01-08T15:44:08.522-10:00

The morning of Halloween began with a Mom's Club party at a local retirement home (coordinated by yours truly). The moms contributed to a potluck lunch and dessert. The kids played games like a pumpkin bucket toss, pin the nose on the pumpkin, coloring/craft pages, ring-around-the-pumpkin and bouncing balloons. After the party, the children paraded their costumes and interacted with the seniors/residents.Trick-or-Treating in our neighborhood began at 5:00. Since it was a beautiful day in the 70s, we ate pizza and veggies on our driveway. Then Justin got a fire going in our firepit while I took Abigail around the block. After dark, we roasted marshmallows with some friends.Photo Permission Required[...]

2009-01-08T15:25:05.577-10:00

Library & Ambulance Depot

2009-01-08T15:18:06.156-10:00

On Tuesday mornings, we attend story time at the library, after which Abigail usually uses the computer, colors a picture, works on a few puzzles and checks out books. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the story time librarian, whom Abigail just adores (pictured here with Abigail and her newly crafted sock puppet).
(image)
(image)
On this particular Tuesday, we also joined Mom's Club for a tour of the local ambulance depot.
