Peter, there's already a non-trendy name for it - original sin. We all have it - we can exercise it when we get the power to do so.
Remember that Psychology experiment in the US where students were given the power to physically hurt others. The experiment had to be stopped because of the damage to both the perpetrators and the victims.
The perception that economics students are more likely to be stingey with money is due to the students' knowledge of the monetary system and how it may be perverted, similarly politics students are more able to exploit the political system. Doctors are able to misuse the prescription drug system...and so on.
Some people may call it "human nature", but that doesn't mean we should just accept such practices, either.
