Thanks Scott for posting such an insightful interview, and thanks to Dale for being such an inspiriation! Good luck to both of you in the Trophy Series (and I'm so glad neither of you are female!)

For you Race Directors out there looking to solve the "where exactly is the race start" problem, you'll be happy to know that both Google and Yahoo recently announced free maps that can accept GPS coordinates to map a location.

Google - http://www.google.com/apis/maps/
Yahoo - http://developer.yahoo.net/maps/

If you plotted it on your web site, anyone could plug in their starting location and get EXACT directions.

Cheers,

SD

What does he do besides run? Where can I see more photos? He sounds really nice. And fast, which is fine by me. If he has a nice rear view. ;)

I think it's unfortunate that the TRM points series is structured so that the optimal strategy for winning it is to race a ton. That keeps people like Dale from achieving their best possible performance at any race. It shouldn't be necessary to choose between these two goals!

The design of the series appears to be aimed at encouraging participation, which is a good thing in itself, but is different from measuring top-level performance. For that, it would be much better to measure "top n performances" or "average performance, minimum n races" rather than "total performance", which is what I would say that it currently does.

But I encourage Dale and every runner to keep at it, and enjoy this wonderful sport!
