To commenters -

I am happy to leave "controversial" comments on the stories as long as you sign your name in a way we can track back to you (it's this great thing called "integrity" - you should check it out sometime). If you don't, I will delete the comments.

Thanks, SD

THANK YOU, the insight you gave me on the Oprah Winfrey show shed so much light. You are beautiful and obviously have your life in perspective. May God continue to watch over you.

I LOVED this article. Sounds cheesy, but it touched me. I'm not religious in the traditional sense at all - but my soul is fed by the mountains and by running. I felt like I was running along side you both. You're a very talented writer.

She was on Oprah last week talking about the pitfalls of marriage. It's based on her story in Glamour. Pretty interesting.

Hey Guys:

Kirstin Armstrong has signed up with a talent agency, and she has a page on their web site http://www.agencetalent.com/cgi/site/talentdetail.php?talentfolder=kristin_a She has some great photos on her talent page, along with her stats.

I second that! Kristin's great. (And so are you, Scott! Really enjoy your blog.) I apologize if this is off-topic but does anyone know when Kristin is going to write for RW again? I've missed her the past few issues (though the other writers have also been very good)....

I found your blog through Forbes (congrats on your award), and after reading this article, went back to read Kristin's article in Runner's World. You're right, she's really good. I've been running trails and ultras for nearly eight years, and I think she captured it better than I ever have. And she clearly has fun. That's going to bring more people to this great sport.

Tell her to start a blog! I look forward to what she does/writes next. Any idea what it is?

Thanks for sharing the insight on Ms. Armstrong's children. Aside from the cute pictures with Lance (and Cheryl :^( ), I don't know much about the kids. I love to hear how kids and moms are so similar.

I'm so glad that Kristin writes. Her articles are the only ones I can relate to in any exercise magazine. I mean really, can I even BEGIN to relate with an elite runner?!? No, but it doesn't mean running isn't a big part of my life (and raising a family, etc., etc.). When I run with my neighbors on Wednesday, we talk about Kristin all the time and what an inspiration she is just by being herself no matter what challenges are put in front of her. I think your story really captured that Scott. We're posting it on the fridge. Now go interview more women!
Thank you, Betty

You have a great blog. I found it from Kristen Armstrong's reference to you in her RW article. I think the world will be blessed for some time to come with another talented Armstrong; this time in running and writing. I really hope she writes a book about anything really. From what I've read of your stuff, you two probably could write it together.

Just don't forget some of the gutter humor.

Best wishes,
JP

It's so rare that writers can capture that "spiritual" part of trail running, the part that connects you to the God's earth. I read and re-read Kik's article, then printed it and read it again. Thank you both for sharing your insight. Clara

2005-07-06T19:18:00.000-07:00

I'm a big fan of Kristin Armstong. As a matter of fact it was one of her articles that motivated me to train for my first marathon this coming January.
I've been running (on and off) for years and I've done trail running a few times. I agree, it's such an amazing experience! Reading your blog made me remember what I'm missing out on, since I haven't done it in a while.
I especially loved what you said about running from the heart.
Thanks for the inspiration.

2005-06-18T07:51:00.000-07:00

I went back and read one of the Kristin Armstrong articles from
Runners World I missed. Sadly, my usual read of Runners World
includes about a 10 minute scan of the entire mag, and then a toss
into the trash can. I missed her article about trail running in
California with Scott Dunlap. It is an excellent piece of writing.
Much better than the smaller blurb this past month on running in
Austin. Anyway, my opinion of the value of her writing has
changed. I always thought she was a great person, but wasn't sure
why she was writing these articles as an accidental celebrity. Now
I do understand. She's got talent. If you missed the article,
check it out (as I did) on Scott Dunlap's blog.

http://runtrails.blogspot.com/2005/06/in-my-nature-city-girl-
explores-trail.html

It's worth a read. Scott also has an article that he wrote about
Kristin coming out to run with him, from his perspective. Read
Kristin's first, then Scott's. Good stuff.

Now I'm off to New Mexico and Arizona. Hopefully there's a trail
run in my future there. If not, I'll definitely get a few training
runs done in Santa Fe, Gallup and Flagstaff.

So I'm new to reading blogs, and happened upon this quite by accident. Loved the articles in RW, and am blown away by yours! Most excellent to read both sides of the adventure -- I've loved Kristin's writing in RW, and I'm equally impressed by yours. Of course it doesn't hurt that you're writing about a woman I consider absolutely a hero ...! Kudos to you both.

Emma -

The trail in the picture is not a marked trail in Huddart Park, so you're very astute in picking that out. You can find something close to it by heading SE (left) from Kings Mountain on the Skyline Trail, going about 1.2 miles out. If you want to see the exact spot, just send me an e-mail, bring your trail shoes, and I'll show you where it is. But be prepared to run a few miles - you gotta earn it. ;oP

2005-06-11T18:10:00.000-07:00

I've always enjoyed Kristin's writing, and thought the trail running story was super. It inspired me to veer off my usual run and try some dirt. My shins are killing me, but she was right about the solace. It's dreamy. I think I've started an affair of my own with the trails.

I'm not sure why Emma thinks there's too much Armstrong in the last Runnerworld. Take out those two articles and its kinda blah.
