STILLERS: STILL LOSERS How would the Patriots be able to stop the best power run game in the NFL as well as the NFL's hottest new celebrity player? How would they score on the best defense in the NFL. This is how: With their "terrible towels" waving, Pittsburgh got the ball with an awkward kick from Vinaterri that resulted in only a 1 yard return and nearly gave the Patriots coverage team a

MVP: MAKE VACATION PLANS Perhaps the best sign ever. I'd love to get a picture of it but Yahoo doesn't have one and I steal all my pictures from them typically. The game started as a defensive struggle. The Colts went 3 and out on their first drive with 2 mediocre runs by James and a 2 yard pass by Manning. The Pats got a first down on their first play from scrimmage as Brady hit Branch for 15.

"The Patriots cannot win this game without Ty Law." "The Patriots are not as good a team now as they were in the beginning of the season." "We're coming home next Sunday and we'll be going to the AFC Championship game." "The Patriots are ripe for the picking." -Mike Vanderjagt "You want me to comment on something a kicker said?" -Tedy Bruschi

PATRIOTS TO PLAY COLTS AGAIN These teams just can't get enough of each other. They played in Week 1 (seemingly ages ago), in last year's AFC Championshio, in Week 13 last year, and back in 2001 these two teams were division opponents. The Colts were wins #8, 14, and 16 in the Patriots record winning streak. However, that was then and this is now. Manning's playoff record is less than stunning.

BC STUNS UCONN IN HARTFORD I was wrong about two things in my last post. OU did not beat USC and the BC/UConn game was in Hartford, not Storrs. Anyway, Boston College was 11-0 coming into this game but they still hadn't demonstrated any major amount of ability. All but two of their games had been at home, and only one of those road games was outside of Massachusetts. They hadn't played a good

PATRIOTS WIN SCRIMMAGE VS. 49ERS I went to this game. It was my first Patriots game ever and the first time I have ever been inside Gillette. I gotta say that it is a beautiful facility. The concourses are wide open with plenty of space for milling around. You can also see the field from the concourse in the upper deck. Although the seats may seem far away, you can see most everyhting from the

BYE BYE JETS Chad Pennington sucks. Tom Brady is the man. Yes, he sucked last week but he rebounded like he did after the Denver game in '01, or the Buffalo game in '03. Tedy Bruschi had the first big play of the game when he intercepted a Chad Pennington pass and returned it for 36 yards giving the offense great field position. Bruschi doesn't get too many picks but when he does, it is

SOX SIGN VARITEK Okay, I'm glad we kept Tek, and i'm even happier we named him captain even though the title isn't what is important, how he acts is what counts. I do think $10M a year is a bit much for a catcher in his early 30s. I'm glad the deal is only 4 years but nevertheless, he'll be 37 when the deal ends. I guess an eventual move to first isn't completely out of the question. ANOTHER

BRADY LEADS TEAM TO DEFEAT For the third time in his career as a New England Patriots, Tom Brady had a terrible game and is the most repsonsible for the Patriots losing. The first was in 2001 against Denver. The last was last season against Buffalo. It happens some times. Alot of other players contributed to this loss though. Rodney Harrison had an absolutely idiotic pass interferance call on a

PATS BEAT BENGALS I forgot to mention the Patriots 12th win of the season. The loss of Pedro really affected my thought process. I didn't see the game because Ithaca sucks. I was pretty sure we'd win though. Cincinatti is not that good on the road and Gillette is a fortress. Some might say the game was too close but marign of victory isn't important when you're 12-1. The Man of the Game is David

A DARK DAY IN THE LIFE OF A PEDROPHILE It could be worse. Alot worse. Pedro could be wearing midnight blue pinstripes instead of regular blue. He could be on a team we face 20+ times a year instead of one we play only a few times every several years. We could have been bogged down by a hefty contract with a player who could very well blow his shoulder out on any pitch. THE MEMORIES One thing

THEO'S WORKING Probably because the Yankees are close to signing Pavano, the Red Sox have signed David Wells to a short term deal that may be one year for $8M or it may be two years for substantially more. This is a good short term deal as Peter Gammons pointed out because of the inevitable availability of Milwaukee's Ben Sheets during the 2005 season. Theo also appears to be close to signing

I WANT A REPLAY OF GAME 7 No, I don't wanna see Game 7 of the 2003 LCS, I want the game to be replayed. The Yankees won with the help of the steroid taking Jason Giambi. I want that game to be stricken from the records and the game to be played again. I want Giambi kicked out of baseball. I want Bonds to be kicked out of baseball. I want an asterik to be put next to Bonds's records. I want

BC HAS DESTINY IN ITS OWN HANDS, CRUSHES IT All the #19 Eagles had to do was beat Syracuse. The team that lost to Purdue 51-0, allowed 31 points against Rutgers, and lost to Temple. Even though BC quarterback Paul Peterson was out, BC was still favored at home. It was supposed to be a celebration of Boston College's first ever Big East football title and a berth to a BCS bid. Now BC will be lucky

FENWAY UPGRADES Story Basically, an upgrade of the drainage system, more than doubling the amount of clubhouse space, widening the thin concourse underneath 1st base. 2005 SCHEDULE I wonder if the MLB people simply get schedules randomly through a computer or if they throw in a few games on purpose. No wait, I don't wonder. The Sox begin their 2005 title defense (God that sounds amazing) against

Some other things that happened on November 23: 1863: Civil War battle of Chattanooga 1876: Columbia, Harvard, and Princeton formed the Intercollegiate Football Association 1887: Notre Dame loses its first football game 8-0 to Michigan 1936: Life magazine debuts 1942: German army

PATS WIN THEIR FIRST EVER IN ARROWHEAD It's hard to beleive that the Patriots have never won a game in Kansas City since 1964, and had never won at Arrowhead. What a great way to start my birthday. The Patriots came out with a blast. The offense seemingly knew that with a depleted defensive secondary going against the best passing offense in the league, they'd need to score early and often.

THIS PICTURE IS AWSOME: The Story in the Globe KAPLER GOING TO JAPAN Red Sox utility man Gabe Kapler has reportedly signed a one year $2M+ deal with the Yomiuri Giants in Japan. This isn't too shocking. He should get a good amount of playing time in Japan which is what his agent said he wanted in the Globe's story (read it here) . With the starting outfield locked up and Dave Roberts already on

I MISS THE NHL I know its for the good of the League but I really miss watching hockey every other night. I miss allowed fighting, fast European skaters, enforcers, goalies standing on their heads and sharpshooters scoring amazing goals. The incident in the NBA the other night made me miss hockey more. It reminded me so much of Terry O'Reilly. I also miss athletes who don't ask for 2 months off

THE T.O. INCIDENT OK, I have no problem with beautiful girls taking their towels off. I have no problem with them jumping into the arms of a football player. I have no problem with the implied sex. However, some people do. ABC, which is owned by Disney, and the NFL should have realised that alot of kids watch Monday Night Football. I remember a few years ago my bedtime was the half-time of MNF

JUST SOME MINOR STUFF Story on Our Arizona Fall League Prospects The Sox claimed Billy Traber off of waivers from Cleveland. He's a token lefty that adds organizational depth. The minor league system has been slightly changed. The Sox have 2 new single A afifliates. Capitol City and Wilmington.

BC ONE WIN AWAY FROM FIRST BIG EAST TITLE A win against Cuse gives Boston College a 5-1 conference record and with the head-to-head tiebreaker over WVU, Boston College would win the Big East and receive an automatic bid to a BCS Bowl. BOSTON ON TOP OF THE SPORTS WORLD? With a possible Big East title (granted it is a joke of a conference this year), a World Series championship, and a Super Bowl

WHERE THE FREE AGENTS STAND OK in my last post I said I wouldn't talk about the free agents but I'm on Thanksgiving Break, its 2 o'clock, and I'm bored. PEDRO TO SELL HIS SOUL? Pedro was offered a 2 year deal by the Red Sox for somewhere around $24M. That's a decent yearly salary but Pedro wants more long term security. Pedro's agent met with Yankee brass down in Tampa and the way ESPN, Yahoo,

PATS LOSE TO STEELERS, REBOUND WITH DOMINANCE I would like everyone at ESPN, Fox Sports, et cetera to keep at least one foot off the Pittsburgh bandwagon. Remember these key facts: 1. Bellicheck's defenses are always better the more times he sees a QB 2. Corey Dillon did not play 3. Tyrone Poole did not play 4. CBs Ty Law and Randall Gay missed plays due to injury 5. Deion Branch did not play 6.
