Hi Trevor,
This one is beautiful. It has harmonious color, edges that appreciate color more than line and a simplicity of composition. Let me explain the simplicity....
While you have many pieces they flow as three shapes, therefore it draws you in to look more. Nice.

Trevor, my friend, you have captured the feeling of the moment! The looseness of your brushstroke and implied detail is perfect. Always happy to see what you've got up your sleeve.

Wow... I glad you need to feed your addiction because we enjoy the fruits of your drug. Lovely. The rhythm of the figures, colors and brush strokes help underscore the subject of this piece.

Lovely, Trevor, lots of movement. I always enjoy the looseness of your watercolours and the subjects too. I adore the colours you are using. This one is definitely a winner!

Nothing wrong with turning to Venice for inspiration...and we are lucky enough to see your results. Your watercolors are wonderful; you really seem to know the benefits of each medium that you use.

Thank you for dropping in on my blog and your comments which are appreciated.
Re your question.. well I suppose if I were to give a basic pointer, it would be..use has big a brush has you dare (relative to the size of your work) and limit your time to a piece. I see you paint quite small..they are very good indeed.

Nice piece Trevor; it grows on me the more I look at it. I appreciate the sense of looseness and freedom in your work. I happen to struggle with this issue as I paint. I'm confined and consumed with trying to get it right. How do you break free?

2009-01-28T11:00:00.000+00:00

hi Trevor,
I think this sort of scene definately works better for you in watercolours - you seem to create a sort of dreamlike state to your pictures which suits the subjects perfectly.

on the other hand your portraits seem to work better in oils, the 'look' painting definitely worked better as an oil painting than a watercolour.

I think its great that you can get good results with both mediums, I never had too much success with watercolours in the past (though I havn't tried in 25 years)
