we've moved (our blog that is)!

I can't tell you how excited we are to have launched a new, re-branded website this month! With that being said, our blog has a new home over on the new site. All the content has been migrated and many new posts are slated, so please be sure to re-direct your browser here.

covetable chronicle:
the art of instruction notebooks & postcards

I adore the Art of Instruction, this book features hundreds of vintage educational posters on a variety of topics, from anatomy to botany. Our friend's at Chronicle Books have also published a notebook collection and a postcard set. If you're also a fan of this stunning imagery, it's your lucky day - we're giving away both the notebook collection AND the postcard set this week - that's right, two lucky winners!

To enter the giveaway:
Head over to the Crow & Canary Facebook page and like or comment on the Chronicle giveaway post at the top of the page. Really, that's all. I will randomly choose two winners the afternoon of Tuesday, 2/26/13 and announce it on the C&C Facebook page.

Just a reminder: Comments on this blog will not be considered an entry. Good luck!

tradeshow spotting: the paper storage co.

Exhibiting at NYIGF last month was awesomely busy again, only downside to our popularity is that it left little time for perusing. Luckily I made the most of my time en route to the restroom or to grab a bite to eat and was able to see a few new lines that were entirely new to me.

A Japanese exhibitor, Paper Storage Company, had a booth that made a distinct impression on me. I'm a complete sucker for cute and unique boxes, whether to use a storage or as gift wrap and these were beauties were calling my name. How lovely would the building boxes look sandwiched between books on a book shelf?

If you're looking for more NYIGF images, be sure to take a peek at my Instagram feed too!

shop: the social type

I've had my eye on The Social Type since their beautifully designed letterpress + foil cards hit shops a couple of years ago. In fact, we spotlighted their Stationery Show debut, in some of our pre-show picks in 2012! This week they launched their drop dead gorgeous online store and I can't stop admiring all the pretty goods.

The canary's are gearing up for NYIGF next week! If you'll be at the show definitely stop by and say hello. We're in Booth No. 4150 and you can take a peek at our newsletter that went out this morning, we have a great line up of designers this show!

paper & type's letter ledger

I love the idea of a letter ledger to keep track of correspondence with friends, family and pen pals. Luckily, Paper & Type designed a perfect specimen for such occasion. I often fear sending a pal the same card twice and said faux pas would be easily avoided with this little helper.

I continue to receive inquiries about the C&C Valentine swap and wanted to be sure to point folks over to The Stationery Place for their 2013 Vday Swap. Unfortunately, our swap is on hiatus again, but we are optimistic that next year we'll be up and running again. Be sure not to miss out on The Stationery Place's swap, I'm participating too and have a really fun idea for my card this year. See you there!

creative crush: macon et lesquoy

I spotted a few of these gorgeous embroidered pins in GREER's web shop earlier this month and fell instantly in love! Macon & Lesquoy is a French design studio that creates unique, embroidered jewelry, brooches and patches. Of course the envelope brooch is currently beckoning me, but I'm equally obsessed with this tiny croissant.

In non-related, but equally exciting, news; I'm delighted to be participating as a panelist in Tradeshow Bootcamp's two day workshop in Los Angeles - it is aptly named PAPER CAMP! Be sure to check out the details if you're a fledgling stationer that has considered exhibiting at a trade show. The information and networking opportunities are invaluable. In fact, take a peek at Claudia of Fig. 2's current blog post - she perfectly sums up the reasons you need to be there!

covetable chronicle:
botanical garland by rifle paper co.

I'm rather excited to share another giveaway from Chronicle Books! Today we have a set of Botanical Garlands designed by Rifle Paper Co. I love this concept, as it's reusable and you don't have to stick to just standard greetings. I for one, would make a banner that read "Oh Happy Day" with this fun little kit. Rifle has partnered with Chronicle for several brilliant collaborations, I am quite fond of the entire Botanicals series and have gotten much use out of the labels & stickers.

To enter the giveaway:
Head over to the Crow & Canary Facebook page and like or comment on the Chronicle giveaway post at the top of the page. Really, that's all. I will randomly choose one winner the afternoon of Friday, 11/2/12 and announce it on the C&C Facebook page.

Just a reminder: Comments on this blog will not be considered an entry. Good luck!

studio glimpse: farewell paperie

Beautiful sampling of custom designs by Farewell Paperie.Envelopes and assorted inventory - paper lover's paradise!Pretty art collection.Where the magic happens! Don't you love the color test prints in the background?Jen is pulling down shades to protect their product from dust and fading - so clever.Sir Harley, resident cutie canineI feel super fortunate to have met Jen and Lisa of Farewell Paperie at the Tradeshow Bootcamp session in LA this last February. I really hit it off with both of these lovely ladies and their line of paper goods is a brilliant mix of laugh out loud funny wit and just plain gorgeous design.Farewell Paperie just relocated their studio headquarters to Seattle, WA earlier this summer; their studio is located in the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle and is in such an awesome space!I had the pleasure of taking a little peek around last month and meeting studio dog extraordinaire, Harley, seriously - this guy is a charmer. Keep your eyes on this talented duo, I'm sure there will be some fun open studio events to come and definitely more fabulous product on the horizon. Thanks again, L & J!{images by crow and canary}[...]

introducing: olivebox

We are truly excited to be working with OliveBox, the new subscription service for themed paper and gift goodies! I was a delighted recipient of September's floral themed box which featured a card and notebooks from Rifle Paper Co., stickers from Knot & Bow and a heavenly scented soap from Saipua.

OliveBox officially launched this week and in honor of their debut, they are giving away a gorgeous vintage typewriter. You can enter to win by signing up for a subscription by 9/21/12.

And we are particularly excited about October's box, as a beloved Crow and Canary designer is featured with one of our favorite new products. Definitely not to be missed!

Chronicle Books has generously offered to periodically send me some of their new stationery goodies to review and in kind, I'd like to share the love with you all!

To kick things off, I have a gorgeous hard cover journal by Mary Kate McDevitt, one of my favorite Portland artists and Jill-of-all-trades. Mary Kate's Mini Goals notepad is hanging in my kitchen and think it's the cat's meow.

It's your new friend Amy from Old Sweet Song. When Carina asked me if I'd like to attend the National Stationery Show as her press person and then blog about it for her, I jumped at the chance. As a lifelong lover of all things pretty and paper, this was kind of a dream assignment for me.I had the best time wandering the aisles of the Javits Center, getting lost among all the gorgeous (and admittedly sometimes not so gorgeous) paper and chatting with all the nice people at the various booths. There was an insane amount of wonderful things on display at NSS. This week I'm gonna share some of my favorite things that I saw. To make it easy, I've divided things up into silly little categories, because who doesn't love silly little categories?I'm in awe of all the talent and loveliness I encountered. A big thank you to Carina for having me along for all the fun. And come say hi to me over at Old Sweet Song. xo,Amy{all images by amy ferguson of old sweet song} [...]

A wonderful dilemma to have, but I must admit that I'm still in mourning that I wasn't able to walk the show a bit. Luckily, I've been able to live vicariously through some other great blogger's coverage - that helps ease the sting a bit. On the bright side, my lovely friend Amy of Old Sweet Song will be back next week with her NSS coverage. I was so very fortunate to have her as a C&C correspondent at the Javits. So, five more days of paper geekery headed your way, sweet readers. {all images by crow and canary}[...]

sneak peek: two trick pony

Things are bustling in Two Trick Pony's stable these days. The ponies have been hard at work with a brand new collection debuting at NSS in the C&C booth. Not only is there more to the bold, typographical series that you see above, they're also releasing a gorgeous new holiday collection that is flat printed - making boxed sets quite budget friendly. I'm also quite excited about their new postcard collections and series of prints.

Gallop on over to Booth No. 3024 to take a gander.

So I know we're a bit far away from the holidays yet, but all the great new products for Christmas and Hanukkah start premiering this time of year so that all your favorite shops can place orders in advance. I absolutely couldn't resist sharing Yellow Owl Workshop's new stamp sets. Do you see what I see? Newsprint + rainbow stamp pads + YOW stamp sets = the best custom gift wrap on the block.

sneak peek: dear hancock

Dear Hancock's much anticipated desk calendar will be making it's grand debut in just a few days at NSS! The desk series began as a small stationery series and has been so wildly popular that they've expanded their offerings. I even got in on the action last year with a stunning custom desk painted by Dear Hancock. In addition to their calendar, DH has been hard at work on a number of new everyday and holiday cards. How darling are those silhouette birthday cards above?

This new series of color gradient (or split fountain, if you want to get into printer's speak) cards from Flywheel Press is simply gorgeous! And this is just the beginning, Flywheel Press has been hard at work at several new series that are equally fantastic, all debuting at NSS.

Additionally, Flywheel Press is the organizer of a mega-awesome matchbook notebook giveaway sponsored by Legion Paper and designed by a bevy of the best and brightest stationers, read more about the project and see a complete list of participants here

sneak peek: egg press

It's safe to say that Egg Press knows their stuff, they've been on the scene for over a decade and are well known for their iconic designs. I've been a groupie pretty much since the beginning; I think that I still have a "Good Egg" card somewhere in my archives, the moniker they used in the early days.

Lucky for all of us, they are introducing some stellar new products and designs at NSS, including some very handsome die cut ornament cards for the holidays. I'm particularly excited about the new notebooks, loving those repeat patterns! Visit Egg Press in Booth No. 1658
