Artist: Izziyana Suhaimi

2015-08-25T13:21:52.549-05:00

It takes a steady hand and a patient mind to painstakingly embroider the kind of detail that Suhaimi achieves in her multi-media art…not to mention the fact that her embroideries are done on paper! Suhaimi combines vibrant pops of embroidery over delicate pencil and watercolor drawings, breathing new life on to the pages.

My perfect places: Positano Italy

2015-08-21T13:09:35.756-05:00

My husband and I recently took a trip to Italy. One of the stops on our trip was Positano on the Amalfi Coast. Lets just say that I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since. We stayed at Conco D'Oro hotel, which, if you're not afraid of a few hundreds steps, I highly recommend. Be warned though, you'll need to bring an empty suitcase for all of the ceramics that you'll want to purchase while visiting this gorgeous town.[...]

Tom Beddards' Fabergé Fractals

2013-12-20T11:24:29.746-05:00

After studying physics at Nottingham University, Beddard went on to receive a PhD in lazer physics at St. Andrews University in Scotland where he developed a deep fascination with the aesthetics of detail and complexity that is the result of simple mathematical or algorithmic processes. His fractal sculptures are like mathematically generated faberge eggs. Full of minute details, the closer you get, the more intricacies emerge. I can't help but think, what spectacular prints these would make!"The 3D fractals are generated by iterative formulas whereby the output of one iteration forms the input for the next. The formulas effectively fold, scale, rotate or flip space. They are truly fractal in the fact that more and more detail can be revealed the closer to the surface you travel. The fascinating aspect is where combinations of parameters can combine to create structural “resonances” of extraordinary detail and beauty—sometimes naturally organic and other times perfectly geometric. But then like a chaotic system it can completely disappear with the smallest perturbation."[...]

Brimfield Antiques Show

2013-10-02T11:58:09.175-05:00

This was my first trip to the Brimfield antiques show but definitely not my last! One day really was not enough time to explore the thousands of stalls and rummage through the many treasures. For anyone interested in searching flea markets, antiquing or just generally bagging a bargain then get your asses to Brimfield and bring a backpack for all your purchases!Next years dates are May 13-18th, July 8-13th & Sept 2-7th.[...]

Artist Amy Judd

2013-09-06T10:00:23.273-05:00

Amy Judd is a London based artist who's work takes inspiration from mythology and the female form. It reminds me of the stunning Irish legend, The Children of Lir, a dark tale of four siblings turned in to Swans by their bitter and jealous aunt. The work is both haunting, their faces never revealed, and breathtakingly beautiful.

Antique Garage Flea Market

2013-02-10T18:48:07.612-05:00

I used to visit the garage flea on 25th street all the time when I first moved to New York but todays visit was my first in quite a while!! The snow storm had obviously affected a lot of venders & customers because it was emptier then I've ever seen it but there were still a ton of awesome finds. I'll never get sick of this place![...]

Road trippin across the USA...well, across the mid-west!

2013-01-01T21:04:43.521-05:00

So, my amazing fiance and I just spent 15 days driving 3800 miles across the mid-west from New York to Pittsburg to Louisville to St. Louis to Chicago to Grand View Wisconsin to Minneapolis back to Chicago to Hermitage PA and then back to New York!!! Such a wonderful adventure with the best travel buddy ever. Some of the greatest moments included standing in the Skydeck in Willis (fka Sears) tower, 1353 ft above the road below, going up inside the St. Louis archway, going to pretty much every museum in Chicago and eating waaay too much food that I'd never even heard of.[...]

My Favorite Brooklyn Brunch Spots: DuMont

2012-11-14T14:28:03.826-05:00

Fantastic atmosphere, great service and delicious food. And let's face it, anywhere that serves complimentary donut holes while you wait is a winner. They have a fantastic large outdoor covered area too which is perfect for a boozy brunch. Highly recommended.

432 Union Avenue, Brooklyn, 11211.

A Day Trip to Philly

2012-11-08T11:49:02.084-05:00

Myself and a few girl friends took an awesome day trip to Philadelphia aaaages ago and I'm only getting around to posting it now. We literally just got off the train and wandered the streets for about 10 hours around the Old City and Market Street. I ate my first philly cheesesteak (yuuuuum), did a little antiquing in a light hoarders paradise and roamed the shattered glass labyrinth of the Philadelphia Magic Garden's. So much fun![...]

Hurricane Helpers

2012-11-06T13:42:58.779-05:00

The effects of hurricane Sandy are unlike anything I have ever witnessed first hand and the fact that I live in Brooklyn and was not affected makes me feel incredibly lucky. This weekend, my boyfriend Arthur, his business partner Michael and I attempted to do what we could in an effort to help those less fortunate then ourselves. The Brooklyn Kitchen organized an amazing donation drive which I volunteered at on Friday (and found this fetching Twister Onesie!!). We then came back early Saturday morning and packed Arthur & Michael's work truck full of donations and drove it to the red cross distribution site. It was an immensely physical challenge but seeing so many volunteers work together to get it done gave me a whole new level of respect for my New York neighbors. Here's hoping that it all reaches the right people and might bring a little light in to their darkness during this hard time.[...]

My best trip home EVER!

2012-11-06T13:42:20.271-05:00

I just had the most incredible trip back to Ireland. I celebrated my 30th birthday with my nearest and dearest and had two wonderful trips down south with my amazing family and wonderful boyfriend. These pics are from my gorgeous home-village of Howth and the enchanting County Kerry, where we visited castles, waterfalls and even got to ride on a horse and carriage with the most Irish man I've ever had the pleasure of meeting...oh and his horse Suzie ;)[...]

Humans Of New York by Brandon Stanton

2012-10-05T07:51:50.885-05:00

Since I started following Humans Of New York about a year ago, I have seen more glimpses of human individuality and creativity then I ever could have imagined even existed. The photographer, Brandon Stanton, has the ability to capture such precious and intimate moments with his subjects that you almost feel like you are getting a glimpse of their souls. It is not about fashion, conventional beauty or style, it is about how truly extraordinary and unique we all are and I absolutely love it!! If you are not already, you need to start following him on facebook or tumbler immediately, you'll thank me later ;)www.humansofnewyork.comHere are a few of my recent favorites:[...]
