Comment on FAQ on dates and ages for ATUAWT by Bryn Greenwood

Thanks so much for reading, Luna! Because meth is an actual scourge in lots of little rural towns in Kansas, I decided early on not to single out any by name. So Belton, Powell & Garringer are all fictional. I pictured them down in the area of Independence, Kansas.

All the Ugly and Wonderful Things goes down as one of my favorite books! It is brilliant! I wrote a glowing and a different sort of review (5-Stars) for Goodreads and Amazon about Time as a social and theoretical construct. I sympathize because I also had an Excel spread sheet for events and ages of my characters! One quick question: I am Terrible at Geography! I can find Tulsa, OK on the map (Brenda's house) But where is Garringer? What is the location of the farmhouse and the ranch? If you don't mind... :) by the way, I am a member of WU and have read your essays there.

The arts are not effortless. It’s part of their beauty.

Just reading this made me ache and comisserate. I used to write but now I’m an artist. I go through the same pain. Some days it feels like my back will fold in two and I’ll wind up in a puddle on the floor. I truly am sorry Bryn to for your woes, but you make me so happy! You’re talent is so rare and I love it! God, I love it!

I’m really excited about this book. Just have to find an editor who is, too.

Hey Bryn, Thanks for sharing, and for doing what you do. I loved the two books of yours I have read. Can’t wait to read your new book when it’s ready and out. I know it’ll be a real treat. Been saving your third book; I’m a Gen Xer, so delayed gratification is second nature. Have a good week :)) Sent from my iPad

I can't lie, I was really confused when I was reading the book and a bit uncomfortable thinking about a grown man having feelings for such a young girl. I'm sorry you had to go through that. I think I matured at an older age, too. Even today when men force me to kiss them or touch me it makes me uneasy for days. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy! I think everyone has different views and we're all entitled to them, but so far the book as been really good!

Eager to reading the alternate scene after I send my littles off to sleep. And I love that you're sharing them! Colorado in January? You are so brave. Of course, Denver is sketchy weather-wise pretty much whenever you go, and totally worth it. You know, Maine is lovely. ;)

I hate that you were in a situation where the very people who should have helped you abandoned you instead. And then people act surprised when victims of sexual assault don’t report it, as though the world is ever eager to believe us, even when there are witnesses. I wish I knew what the answer was, though I do think it would be helpful to have federal guidelines on age of consent, age gaps, sex offender registries. The fact that such things are decided on the state level makes it all more confusing & I believe harder to enforce. Of course, we’re still struggling to reach a point socially where we value children & women. We’ll have to cement that before we can solidify a system that believes them. Hope you’re well.
