Should the Dolphins be concerned about Josh Rosen’s concussion history?

25 Apr 2018 15:21:45 -0400

Josh Rosen is a top quarterback in this years draft and one that the Miami Dolphins seem interested in. His injury history should be a concern. In the NFL there are injuries all the time. Some are far worse than others. When it comes to concussions the NFL takes it very seriously and Josh Rosen […] Should the Dolphins be concerned about Josh Rosen’s concussion history? - Phin Phanatic - Phin Phanatic - A Miami Dolphins Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and more.

Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross deposed in Kaepernick case

25 Apr 2018 13:45:43 -0400

Earlier this year, Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross made news with some comments he made regarding players kneeling in protest during the national anthem at NFL games.Tuesday, Ross was deposed by the attorneys involved in Colin Kaepernick’s grievance against the NFL, which accuses the league of colluding to exclude him from employment in the league. It appears that Kaepernick’s legal team is intent on including President Donald Trump as a part of their collusion accusation, as most of what Ross had to say was tied to his belief that the perception of the protest changed because of Trump’s subsequent tweets and comments about players protesting. Ross's comments could be crucial to the case in that regard. In March, Ross said, “I think initially I totally supported the players in what they were doing, because it’s America – people should be able to really speak about their choices and show them [in] doing that. But I think when you change the message, about, is it support of our country or the military, it’s a

Five quarterbacks Miami Dolphins could add later in the draft

The Miami Dolphins are high on Baker Mayfield and Josh Rosen if the press is to be believed. Both likely gone by Miami’s pick, there are other QB’s in this draft. When the Miami Dolphins make their selection on Thursday night it probably won’t be for a quarterback. That will likely come in the later […] Five quarterbacks Miami Dolphins could add later in the draft - Phin Phanatic - Phin Phanatic - A Miami Dolphins Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and more.

Dolphins Pick Up 5th Year Option On Devante Parker’s Contract

25 Apr 2018 11:10:16 -0400

The Miami Dolphins have exercised their fifth year option on former Louisville receiver Devante Parker’s rookie contract. In 2019 Parker will earn roughly $9.5 million. This move from Miami makes it seem as if they’re still fully committed to their 11th overall pick from the 2015 NFL Draft. The Dolphins used the franchise tag on […] The post Dolphins Pick Up 5th Year Option On Devante Parker’s Contract appeared first on The Cardinal Connect.

Miami Dolphins need cornerstone talent not defensive line

25 Apr 2018 09:39:02 -0400

The Miami Dolphins draft needs to produce a cornerstone talent more than a defensive lineman in order to fix a first round trend. Vita Vea is a good player and maybe someday he will be a great player. Da’Ron Payne is a good player and maybe he too will someday be a great player. Pre-draft NFL power rankings

24 Apr 2018 21:00:14 -0400

The 2018 NFL Draft is just hours away when all 32 teams will attempt to better their rosters by adding some of last season’s top college talents. But before NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announces the first team up on the clock, we thought it only appropriate to get into some NFL power rankings.Obviously, some franchises are in much better shape than others. Taking all of the 2018 free agency action into consideration as well as each team’s current roster of players, all 32 franchises are ranked from worst to best. Be prepared for a few surprises starting with the team that currently sits dead last in our book.32. Miami DolphinsMidway through free agency, the Dolphins did the unthinkable and signed the much-maligned quarterback Brock Osweiler. That right there reveals the team’s current state of mind. Ahead of the draft, the Dolphins have already said that Ryan Tannehill will start. News flash — he has not played since December of 2016. A rookie quarterback could be in the cards, but assuming they go elsewhe

Dolphins to pick up DeVante Parker’s option

24 Apr 2018 15:47:45 -0400

The Dolphins are picking up Devante Parker’s fifth year option for 2019, a league source tells Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald (on Twitter). The additional year on the wide receiver’s deal is guaranteed for injury only.  [RELATED: PFR’s 2019 Fifth-Year Option Tracker]Parker has been held back by foot, hamstring, and ankle injuries during his three-year NFL career, so this is not exactly a no-risk proposition for the Dolphins. Parker has yet to break out in the way Miami hoped he would when he was drafted No. 14 overall in 2015, but they believe that he still has serious potential. At one point in time, the Dolphins were concerned about their ability to lock both Parker and Jarvis Landry up in the long-term. Much has changed. Landry has since been sent to the Browns in a sign-and-trade and Parker is not a candidate for a big money extension at this time.Last season, Parker missed three games and totaled just 670 yards and one touchdown off of 57 catches. His 2016 season was his best showing to date as he had

NFL Draft Notes: Dolphins could go with Vander Esch; Jets may play rookie QB from start

23 Apr 2018 20:39:41 -0400

The Dolphins are serious about moving back in the draft if the board operates as the team expects, Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald writes.Beasley says if the quarterbacks the team are targeting all go early, the team would be more than happy to trade back, pick up additional assets and target a linebacker like Boise State’s Leighton Vander Esch.Though the team did not have Vander Esch in for a pre-draft visit, Miami did meet with him at the Combine in February and not having a pre-draft visit did not stop it from selecting Charles Harris in 2017.Trading back with the hopes of landing the Boise State standout could be a risky proposition. The quick linebacker has been one of the fastest rising names in the days leading up to Thursday’s NFL Draft. Here’s more concerning the upcoming draft: The MMQB’s Peter King released his first-round mock draft on Monday and has Sam Darnold pegged as the No. 1 pick to the Browns. King cites his pick on the team’s need to be safe and a source who is “someone I trust, who is v

10 NFL teams most likely to make a draft day trade

22 Apr 2018 16:39:43 -0400

The NFL trade market has been unusually active this offseason, and there’s no reason to believe that’s going to change during the 2018 NFL Draft. In fact, there is already an abundance of speculation regarding a series of potential trades that may or may not come to fruition. Most of the trade rumors orbit around two or three teams, but as we’ve seen in draft’s of the past, just about anyone is capable of making a shocking deal to either move up, move down or acquire an unexpected talent. Here’s a look at 10 teams most likely to make a trade during the 2018 NFL Draft.10. Seattle SeahawksThe Seahawks represent an interesting potential trade partner given that they have no picks in rounds two or three. They do however, have the No. 18 overall pick in Round 1, which could be used to move back and acquire additional Day 2 picks. And given the complete overhaul in Seattle this offseason, there are more than a handful of needs that require immediate attention. And it’s not as if Pete Carroll & Co. are shy about t

AFC East Notes: Dolphins' QBs, Bills and Jets host defenders, Patriots host WR

18 Apr 2018 22:08:42 -0400

Speaking to the media earlier today, Dolphins executives Mike Tannenbaum and Chris Grier indicated their belief that Miami has enough draft capital to move from pick No. 11 into the top-six, as Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald tweets. The Dolphins have been heavily linked to quarterbacks this spring, and they could potentially seek a long-term upgrade over Ryan Tannehill. Trading up into the top-six would likely require Miami to sacrifice its 2019 first-rounder, but the price tag could be worth it if head coach Adam Gase wants to work with someone like UCLA’s Josh Rosen or Wyoming’s Josh Allen. Here’s more from the AFC East: The Bills are hosting Boston College edge rusher Harold Landry, according to Ian Rapoport of (Twitter link). Almost assuredly a first-round pick, Landry is viewed a notch below the draft’s consensus best defensive end, North Carolina State’s Bradley Chubb. Landry, who notched 48 sacks during his collegiate career, isn’t expected to last until pick No. 23 (Patriots), per Rapoport. T

Dolphins say Tannehill will start at QB regardless of draft

18 Apr 2018 15:36:23 -0400

The Miami Dolphins may well draft a quarterback, but the job remains Ryan Tannehill’s to lose.In a Wednesday press conference, general manager Chris Grier said that, while the Dolphins may look to take a quarterback in the first round of the NFL Draft, Tannehill will remain the team’s starter regardless. Interestingly, the Dolphins have made no secret of the fact that they’re at least considering first-round quarterbacks, which has to make Tannehill wonder a bit. One in particular seems to have Miami entranced. It seems, however, that Tannehill’s job is safe for a year. Beyond that, it’s anyone’s guess.

Dolphins: Ryan Tannehill is starter, no QB competition

18 Apr 2018 14:46:55 -0400

Even if the Miami Dolphins use their first-round pick to draft a quarterback, Ryan Tannehill will be the starter, without question, in 2018.Team executives made that crystal clear on Wednesday, according to Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. There have been strong indications that Miami is, indeed, looking to draft a quarterback. Baker Mayfield is said to be high on the team’s wish list, though based on recent reports he’ll be long gone before Miami picks at No. 11 overall. Lamar Jackson actually got some one-on-one time with none other than Dan Marino when he had his workout with the Dolphins recently, so perhaps he’s an option, too.Given the fact that Miami recently inked Tannehill to a new contract, this really shouldn’t be all that surprising. Much like the situation in Jacksonville, there’s no need to rush a young quarterback into the starting lineup, even if in the long term that young man might be the future of the organization.Tannehill is coming off of two straight seasons that were ended

Frank Gore not interested in being just a mentor for Dolphins

17 Apr 2018 15:53:05 -0400

Running back Frank Gore signed with the Miami Dolphins in the offseason, returning to the area where he grew up and went to college. But Gore isn’t interested in having what amounts to a ceremonial role for the team. Far from it.“I’m going to show this organization that they picked the right guy bringing me in this year,” Gore said, per Omar Kelly of the Sun Sentinel. “Some guys go to different teams and as they get older, they just want to ride the coattail of the younger guys. I don’t want to do that. … I respect every man on this team, but I’m here to still play. I’m going to help the young guys, but I want to show my fans and family I can still be a top guy in this league.”Gore will certainly have his hands full in competing for playing time with Kenyan Drake. Drake ran for 644 yards and three touchdowns and added 239 yards and another touchdown receiving. While those numbers may not look overwhelming, the vast majority of them (619 rushing yards, 232 receiving yards, all three touchdowns) came in the seas

Dolphins sign TE Gavin Escobar

16 Apr 2018 15:28:26 -0400

The Dolphins announced that they have signed tight end Gavin Escobar. Escobar became available last week when he was cut loose by the Browns. Escobar, 27, never lived up his to second-round draft status with the Cowboys. In four seasons with Dallas, he managed just 30 receptions for 333 yards. He inked a minimum salary benefit contract with the Chiefs in March of 2017, but did not make the final cut. He later hooked on with the Ravens, but he did not record an official statistic in his two games with the club. The Dolphins did not re-sign tight ends Julius Thomas and Anthony Fasano and both players remain on the open market. As it stands, Escobar will look to fight for a roster spot in a group that includes A.J. Derby, MarQueis Gray, and Thomas Duarte. The Dolphins announced that they have signed tight end Gavin Escobar. Dolphins to visit with Baker Mayfield, Josh Allen

11 Apr 2018 19:16:27 -0400

The Miami Dolphins continue to make it clear that hey have interest in drafting a quarterback this year. The Monday Morning Quarterback’s Albert Breer reports that the Dolphins will have Baker Mayfield and Josh Allen in for visits this week. Reports have consistently said the Dolphins are interested in drafting a quarterback in the first round. Mayfield has even shown interest in playing for them. The question for Miami is whether a QB they like will be available when they are picking. The Dolphins are set to pick No. 11 overall, and multiple quarterbacks could be gone by then. Both Mayfield and Allen might not last to that point, not to mention Josh Rosen and Sam Darnold.

Dan Marino working out with Lamar Jackson during visit with the Dolphins

06 Apr 2018 13:43:05 -0400

Having already named Ryan Tannehill their starting quarterback for next season, most figured the Miami Dolphins would look in another direction during the first round of this month’s NFL Draft. That might not be the case. Linked to some of the top quarterbacks in the class, the Dolphins are hosting former Heisman winner Lamar Jackson for a visit on Friday. Not only that, all-time great Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino is at the complex to work out with Jackson. If that doesn’t indicate a real interest on the Dolphins’ part, we’re not too sure what does.Selecting 11th overall, there’s a strong chance Jackson will be available to the Dolphins should they decide to go in that direction. Opinions of the quarterback are split, primarily via generational lines. Some think that Jackson should play receiver at the next level. Others believe he has what it takes to be a franchise quarterback. What we do know is that Jackson remains one of the most intriguing stories heading into the annual NFL Draft in Dallas later in Ap

Former NFL player suing ESPN for a cool $50 million

04 Apr 2018 18:45:10 -0400

The story is not well known. Former NFL player Dimitri Patterson, who played in the league from 2005-2013, allegedly injured two police officers when attempting to flee from a court proceeding back in February of 2017.As we covered back then, Patterson ultimately faced battery charges against a police officer. This came while Patterson was in court answering to unknown charges against him (more on that here). Now, over a year later, Patterson has filed a defamation lawsuit against ESPN, demanding $50 million in damages.“In his suit, which he filed while acting as his own lawyer, Patterson includes a letter from ESPN legal team in which the network defends the accuracy of the article,” TMZ Sports notes.Patterson claims courtroom videos show that ESPN’s original article reporting the incident was false. It’s not yet known just whether ESPN will have to pay a penny to Patterson. Though, the allegations themselves are pretty darn serious.Patterson, 34, last played in the NFL with the Miami Dolphins back in 2013. He
