Regarding Sir Richard

Wed, 27 Jul 2011 21:11:53 +0000

Condoms. We all need them yet I think I speak for every gentlemen of how painfully awkward it is when one has to purchase them. Fellas, you know what the scenario, that long line at CVS where you end up buying your pack of jimmy hats and you felt obligated to purchase the latest issue […]

Esther Kim is a talented illustrator and a dear friend of the Evil Monito family. Recently we had an opportunity to sit down with her. Take a look:

Everyday People

Mon, 24 Jan 2011 23:22:31 +0000

Downtown L.A. is a vibrant city during the day. Broadway Ave is full of vendors and the foot traffic is constant. It”s interesting observing new faces all in the struggle to get by. Music by Kevin E. Craft -

Martian Chronicles

Thu, 20 Jan 2011 22:07:06 +0000

Downtown L.A. is a foreign planet at times. The short is in tribute to Ray Bradbury’s “The Martian Chronicles” and the wonderful film, “Fantastic Planet.” Music by Kevin E. Craft –

Midnight Walk

Wed, 19 Jan 2011 23:40:02 +0000

The midnight walk is something I like to do with friends. Although the streets of Downtown L.A. are relatively safe, there are stragglers and broken people everywhere. Sometimes I wonder if I’m just one of them trying to understand the human struggle. Music by Kevin E. Craft -

Street Music

Tue, 18 Jan 2011 02:45:41 +0000

Walking around Downtown Los Angeles is one of my favorites things to do. There might be moments where so many spontaneous things are going on all at once and at other times you feel like you’re walking in a ghost town. It is these extremes of solitude and solidarity that I find to be so […]

Street Sounds

Sat, 15 Jan 2011 21:46:31 +0000

Jack Kerouac knew a thing or two about regarding his observation of Los Angeles. Downtown Los Angeles epitomizes his thoughts. Music by Ethan Holtzman of Dengue Fever

The Darkness

Fri, 14 Jan 2011 09:44:45 +0000

One thing that the EM Staff has observed about Downtown Los Angeles is the feeling of complete isolation. Despite the wave of new residents, it is a rare thing to witness the streets of downtown being inhabited at night. This singular observation makes Downtown LA a uniquely beautiful place to be.

Street Prophet

Tue, 11 Jan 2011 12:33:19 +0000

Downtown Los Angeles is a place of desolation and beauty. This short film from Mr. Kim is a scene depicting an interaction with a ‘street prophet’ and a provoking bystander. Music by Ethan Holtzman of Dengue Fever.

24 Clicks

Thu, 29 Jul 2010 21:16:20 +0000

It would seem that analog is very much in again. 24 Clicks is an interesting campaign brought to you by Scion that enlists you to showcase your photography via a scavenger hunt of sorts. The best part about this project is that all participants will receive a copy of the coffee table book of select […]

Thom Browne S/S ’11

Wed, 30 Jun 2010 05:00:51 +0000

Oscar Niemeyer’s designed headquarters of the Communist party in France might sound like an odd place to debut a fashion collection but what more would you expect of Thom Browne? Fresh from showing his ambitious collection at Milan with models riding briskly inside a velodrome, Mr. Browne upped his debut presence at Paris fashion week […]

Thom Browne’s Moncler Gamme Bleu

Fri, 25 Jun 2010 15:31:39 +0000

Thom Browne’s sportswear collection with Moncler has been something to take note of. Visibly different from among the many collections currently showing in Milan, Mr. Browne’s approach is always inventive and entertaining. It’s no surprise that Thom Browne once spent time in Los Angeles as an aspiring actor, he certainly brings his ideas of theatrics […]

A Philanthropist Briefcase

Thu, 10 Jun 2010 21:37:54 +0000

Los Angeles brand Apolis knows a thing or two about social activist work. The brand prides itself in working alongside factories in developing countries in assisting economic growth. Apolis also works with other companies who pride themselves on fine workmanship. This “Philanthropost Briefcase” is a collaboration between Apolis and Seattle based CC Filson. The raw […]

Casino Jack and the United States of Money

Tue, 08 Jun 2010 09:49:26 +0000

Rarely comes a documentary that unveils the secret handshakes of Capitol Hill. If this trailer is of any indication of what to expect, I’d say this is definitely a film worth seeing. Synopsis: This portrait of Washington super lobbyist Jack Abramoff—from his early years as a gung—ho member of the GOP political machine to his […]

The White Room

Thu, 06 May 2010 19:19:32 +0000

Fashion films are a dime a dozen these days but this particular film directed by Sharif Hamza stood out. It wasn’t just the formulaic stark monochrome color schemes, nor the waif androgyny look of the male models used, I simply appreciated the staging of filming one singular narrow hallway. I also appreciated the use of the […]
