Lost At Sea Is A Radio Program

What started out as twice in a lifetime Ustream broadcast led to a one off DJ gig several weeks ago. This led, ultimately, led to a radio show which is the returning Lost at Sea Episode one of Lost at Sea aired on April 7 on Free Radio Santa Cruz. The new format consist of an hour long program filled with music and a hodgepodge of sounds and samples. I planned to record segments for the (image)

Welcome Back...Welcome Home

Well, well, well. Nearly five years after my last post, I have finally returned home only to find out nothing is even close to how it previously looked. Where do I begin? Let me start with this list honoring the dearly departed and surprising moments that have happened in that time. - Tom Petty died - Prince died - George Michael died - Scott Weiland died - Chester Bennington died - Chris (image)

Chi Cheng (1970-2013)

Deftones bassist Chi Cheng passed away yesterday at 42. After a 2008 auto accident left him in a coma, Cheng has spent the last few years in a semi-conscious state. In 2010, however, he has shown signs of improvement and slight mobility. Founded in 1988, Cheng served as a founding member of the band providing a melodic and heavy bass sound unlike many of his contemporaries on their albums (image)

Happy 4th Birthday To Me

This past Saturday marked the fourth (as in "Four Sticks," Foreigner 4, Beyonce's 4) anniversary of Hightower and Jones. Last week has been an insanely incredible week on a personal level and this Saturday was very busy. Lately, my absence has been due to a focus on my art and the avenues it has started opening up. I have a lot of things I have been meaning to post and talk about like the fact(image)

An 80's Valentine's Day Playlist For Your Lover

Today is Valentine's Day which means love (or the lack of) is in the air and, more importantly, entwined in the notes found flowing through your speakers. So, while you spend time with your lover, spouse, mate or self, remember this one thing: Nothing says "I love you" better than telling that special someone to "shake it, shake it, shake it, now, shake it" before suggesting that they spend(image)

The Everchanging Spectrum of Hightower and Jones

To loosely quote Exene Cervenka and John Doe of X, "It's about time, it's about space." The last year, for me, was about space and time and as all of you probably guessed, most of that space and time was spent away from the blog. Throughout that time, a few concerts were attended, photographed or reviewed, a vast selection of new albums were purchased along with some older ones that were missed (image)

The Grammy Awards...Again?

The 2013 Grammy Awards were announced Wednesday and this might be the year where the voters became cool or, at least, modern. Yeah...modern is more accurate as nominating "Someone That I Used to Know" for Record of the Year can not possibly classify anything as being cool (looking at you, Urban Outfitters and Gap customers). This year, however, has brought forth many surprise nominations (image)

One Hit Wonder or One Hit Blunder

Today's Subject: "Tubthumping" by Chumbawamba Let it be noted that I, like many others, did not know Chumbawamba were still around until they disbanded earlier this year. It was afterward that I could not escape this ode to drinking whiskey, lager and cider drinks while singing songs that remind people of the best times. It was like 1997 revisited in the sense that I found myself singing (image)

Since the inception of the music video as a viable musical promotional tool, there have been a lot of videos involving zombies. For example, there is, of course, the legendary clip for "Thriller" as well as "Scream" by Misfits which was directed by the lord of the zombies, George Romero. Let us not forget videos starring The Rolling Stones, Lou Reed or Ke$ha over the last 20 years. One video that(image)

GWAR Closes Out A.V. Undercover Season 3 With A Kansas Cover

In TV, a season finale leaves with a cliffhanger or resolves many stories presented throughout the previous episodes or months. When A.V. Undercover presents their season finale (and the last ever in the little round room), you get a group of aliens covering a popular 70's rock song. GWAR takes the Kansas classic, "Carry On Wayward Son" and adds their own humorously brilliant and heavy stamp (image)
