Regular Season Cancelled through 10/24

Hey Pens Fans,

Here is the announcement from the NHL.

NHLPA Video to the Fans

Hey Pens Fans,
Here is the link to the Video in case you hadn't seen it yet.

Bettman's Third Lockout

Hey Pens Fans,
As you are aware, the lockout is on. We heard the word lockout and suddenly have flash backs to theresa of seven years ago and the cancelled season or back even further to the shortened season of 94-95. In 18 years , we have had three lockouts. That is absurd. What other sport would stand for this? Should the first priority of the commissioner be to make sure the sport is played. Come on Bettman. How that man still has his job continues to astound me every day, but I digress... The focus needs to be on the lockout. Right now it is not as bad as it was 7 years agos. The side are not as ridiculously far apart. Last time the players made some huge concessions and anyone will say that the league obviously came out the winners. That's also part of the issue. Yes it's not as bad with the separation between sides, but the NHLPA is not budging much as of yet. Why should they? The league needs to make comprises and are asking for more and more and wanting less and less for the players. Right now only some preseason games are cancelled and we are from having to cancel or shorten the season yet, but that is what we thought last time too. Honestly, I don't think this time will be as bad. Again a major point of contention is the salary cap. I will have more details on what the issues are as the sides resume meeting. For now, keep the faith that the season won't be lost.

Lockout @ midnight

Hey Pens Fans,
I hate to be he bearer of bad news but it looks like another lockout is eminent. So far, this will only result in he cancellation of the preseason and hen it hinges on th coming weeks. I first came to you all during the last lockout trying to help spread the news of saving the season. It will be the same this time around if it comes down to it. Lockout watch is officially on...

Final 3-2 pens

Quick recap

The pens have had a pretty good go the last couple games. The whole league is buzzing with talks of Malkin's play with the returning MVP rumblings. Fleury has been strong in net and looking like he goalie we know and love. Its been a good couple games for him. Kunitz has been very strong the past couple games after being fairly silent for a bit. Nice to see him stepping it up a bit. Tomorrow is the unveiling of the Lemieux statue at noon and the Pens take on he Leafs at 7:30. Hoping to get you more live from the game.

Sid has been cleared for contact. No time table for return. Post on last 2 games to come later this evening.

Well, incase you hadn't heard, Kris Letang will mis Saturdays game. Letang was hit int the head by Nystrom's right arm in the Dallas game and it is said that he has been experiencing concussion like symptoms. Letang previously missed about two months with a concussion.

Quiet Day

Well, our Pens made no moves. So, nothing much to discuss. The league was very quiet, as a whole. I guess I will have more for you about the pens as we head into the final push to the playoffs.

Pens Rumors

Hey Pens' Fans,
Time for my first quit hit of rumors.

To start off, I know that everyone has heard or talked of shopping Brent Johnson. I don't think it is entirely likely. I know that he has been inconsistent and that he will be an unrestricted free agent, but it not as bad, as it seems. I am not saying he is spectacular and we should never let h go. I am saying that the Pens fair far better than most of the league in the goalie department. I am not sure that others that are available would be worth the cap hit. I would not be surprised, if we traded him and got a pick or something. It just does not seem to be a top priority for the Pens nor should it be.

Rumors are swirling that that the Lightning are interested in dealing former Pen and Pittsburgh native Ryan Malone. Malone has a not trade clause and it is said he will waive it to return to Pittsburgh. I have heard that he Pens have some interest, but honestly it would have to be the right deal for it to work with the hit to the cap and all. I would like to see Malone back and think he would fit into our current roster. What I trying to figure out is what deal would be beneficial for boh teams that could make that happen.

I know I have been out of blogging for a bit, but I get tons of emails from friends and acquaintances about rumors this time of year. Many of you keep asking about Jagr coming back for God knows what reason. It is NOT happening and why would we want him back. So, for he record I have heard no rumors about any interest in bringing him back and I doubt that I will.

More as I hear it...

Back to where it all began...

Hey. Pens' Fans,

It was 2 years ago at the trade dealine, when I last posted and updated.  It has been far too long.  My love of hockey has never waivered.  Work and life got in the way, but now I am back to what really matters.  I am restarting my old tradition on 24 hour trade watch leading into the dealine.  So, with a hot mug of coffee and armed with every internet capable device I could find, I stage a return.

My love of hockey and the the interrworksings of deals, trades and drafts, have always been my passion.  So I thought what better time than the eve of the dealine to go back to what I love.

I hope to keep up with all the rumors and transactions for everyone.

It's great to be back and there is not a more exciting time to jump back in.

Pens Top Islanders and a Trade

Hey Pens' Fans,

First, let's talk about last night's game.  Even with all the snow and road issues in the area about 13,000 fans made to the igloo for the game, myself included.  It was a good game.  Kunitz had two goals and Malkin added pone to give tht Pens a 3-1 victory.  Fleury played a solid game.  There were definetly a few uniquie moments, but it all turned out well.  I think that Adams played a pretty good game and he has been failry silent in his ice time recently.  Orpik played an aggressive gamew, but he took a few penelties that were not something to be entirely pleased about.  Dupuis played a few particulary impressive shifts, but unfortunetly he could not keep it up all game.  The whole teamed really did seem to step-up.  Kris Letang and Tyler Kennedy both played some very good hockey and worked hard on both ends of the ice.  This was a game where there is very little negative and it is a great mommentum to carry into the remaining games until the Olympic break.

In trade news, the Pens traded defenseman, Nate Guenin to the Blues for defenseman Steve Wagner.  Wagner is  6'1" and 25 years old.  He will report to Wilkes-Barre.

Snowy Days

Hey Pens' Fans,

Well, the past few days have been a bit hectic with all the snow.  So, let me summarize the past few days.  First, the Pens fell to Montreal.  I will be honest with all the snow and issues caused by it I did not see any part of the game, at all.  From what I have seen in clips and such since then I can't form a really good opinion, but I can say that it looks like that we made a fairly good effort.  Now, the trip from there to DC was quite the trip for the guys: flying into Newark and bussing into DC and still being on I 95 outside Philly at 11:30 at night with a game at 12 the next day.  I give them credit for playing such a good game.  I expected the team to be completely drained.  It was a tough game and I hate that we lost, but at least it was in OT and we got one point.  The only thing that really angers me is that Ovechkin got the HT.  Tomorrow, the Pens will be at home against the Islanders.  It should be a good game and they have had a couple days to rest after the hectic weekend.  It should be a good game.  I hope everyone is able to make it to the game tomorrow, with the impending forecast.  Drive Safe and Let's Go Pens!   See you at the game...

Better Late than Never: Pens Top Sabres

Hey Pens' Fans,
Well, my post is a bit late, but that is better than nothing, right?

The Pens topped the Sabres 5-4 last night. Sid had a natural hat trick, in the game. This was a tough game game to win and leave it to Crosby to make a good show. The whole team played a solid game. I will say that on definetly one of the Sabres goals that Fleury probably should have had it, but he played well otherwise.

Pens Defeat Wings in SO

Hey Pens' Fans,

This afternoons game was a good one to watch.  Early on, it seemed that nothing the Pens did could get them a goal.  The team finally cashed in, when Crosby got his 34th of the season.  The Pens out shot the wings today and seemed to out play them for a large bit of the game too.  The Wings are definetly not the same team they were last season.  They are not playing up to that caliber.  Fleury played well in  net today.  When the game went into the OT, we all new that it would go to the shoot out.  Sid got the SO winner and Malkin also put one in the net in the SO.  It was a good game and fun to watch.  It was no where near, as heated or intense as previous meetings between these two team.  A win is a win and this was a big for us on many levels.

Hey Pens' Fans,

I really haven't heard much in the line of rumors that involve the Pens. Everyone is talking Kovalchuk and there is little else out there that anyone is noticing. When there is a big rumor, as big as, this one, a lot of things fall by the wayside and we get blindsided by some of the deals. I know that Shero is going to do something. I think is will more than likely be on a small scale. I don't forsee any of the "Craig Patrick-like" blockbusters occuring, but he may move multiple players. I wouldn't be suprised, if nothing much goes down before the Olympic break. There is a key fact to remember: Just because there is a trade freeze during the break, does not mean that the GMs won't have a long time to talk and line things up for when that is lifted. I don't think that the deadline for the trade freeze will be anywhere near, as active as, the true trade deadline.

Pens Fall to Sens

Hey Pens' Fans,

Well, tonight was not the best of times for our Pens, but it was not the worst either. Malkin's goal was the only time we managed to to put one in the twine. We seemed to be shooting a fairly decent amount tonight. It was not one of those games where we all are frustrated by the lack of shooting. That is one thing that they definetly improved on. Fleury seemed a little shaky in net, but in turn, the defense seemed to be a bit out of sorts. They didn't seem like they could work in any sort of congruent manner. I would expect that Bylsma will juggle the lines again before Wings game to try to get that spark back in the team.

It is that Time of the Year...

... rumor time that is.

Here is what I have heard so far on the Pens rumor front. This year is just liek the others with outlandish rumors coming out of everywhere and some credible ones surfacing in ways I would not imagine. I have heard the Pens connected to everyone from Kovalchuck, to Selanne, to Neidermayer. I personally don't think these are extrememly likely, but we have all seen stranger things. In the past few years, the rumor that would not die was Recchi to the Pens. That is not the case this year, but Sykora to the Pens seems to be the current trend. I do not forsee this occuring. He has been on waivers and no one, including the Pens bit. I think this may be the rumor we all dread to hear and will continue to hear over and over again.

Now onto the rumors that seem to have more real potential or, at least intrigue. One rumor that I have been hearing is that the Pens are taking a look at Raffi Torres, of Columbus. Now, I like this rumor. I think Torres would fit into our team. He has 16 goals so far this season and is not afraid to shoot the puck. His style compliments nicely with our lineup and the current vibe is that the Blue Jackets will move him before the deadline. Another credible rumor that has some merrit, would be that of the Pens interest in Alexei Ponikarvosky. this is another play that would fit and also fit in our cap like Torres. Ponikarovsky has been a stable player for the Leafs and with current play they need a shakeup and this may be a move they try.

Now on the front of who the Pens are trying to shop to other teams, it has been pretty quiet. I have not heard who would be someone to lose on any consistant basis. The names that I have seen tossed around oin rumor land are: Dupuis, Skoula, McKee,and Eation. I have not seen any of these in enough places or with enough credibility to put much stock in it yet. I have seen it enough to not ignore, however.

I will have more on the rumors as I hear it. Please feel free to post your thoughts or rumors as a comment and I will see what I can find for you.

Pens Top Rangers

Hey, Pens' Fans,

Oh, what a night? This was a fun game to watch. The Pens topped the Rangers 4-2. Fleury returned in net and did not disappoint making 28 saves on the night. Conner had two goals and Malkin and Dupuis each added one, as well.

Gologoski, Guerin, and Talbot all missed the game due to injuries tonight. Skoula stepped into Gologoski's role and Conner was recalled from Wilkes-barre/Scranton. Conner definetly decided to make an impression in his time with the big club. He played a strong game. To top it off, he scored two goals. His play was very good and he definetly filled the void he was called up to and then some. I would expect to see him up here more often if he continues to work this hard, even without multi-goal games.

The Pens seem to be battleing through thier injury rash and seem to be playing like the team we have become accustomed to seeing. Thursday will be another test against the Senators, but the real task will be the weekend game against the Wings.
