S.O.S Earth

S.O.S!!! The Earth is calling out for help through the climate change and also imbalance biodiversity. Can you hear it? It is time for us to take responsive action for the betterment of humankind! Fellow comrades! ARE YOU READY?

Updated: 2018-03-05T08:15:47.640-08:00

Yippee!!! S.O.S Earth is on AIR!!‘有情有爱 自由自在’Do you know which radio station this tagline belongs to?? Guess.....Yes! You are right! Its from Ai FM!! Representatives from Media Relations and Editorial (MRE) as well as Programming (Exhibition) were the two volunteers to represent the whole APR1 students. Not forgeting, our super-women plus a little bit of cuteness in her, our event advisor, Ms Lim Siz Siz!!!They move out an hour earlier from TAR College as they were unfamiliar with the area and surprisingly they reach on time and also manage to have a small talk with the host, also a senior broadcaster, Mun Meng.(From left) representative from Programming (exhibition), DJ - Mun Meng, Representative from MRE (remember her face!)At 12.15pm, the talk show begun! The representative from MRE department was so nervous as she was the first to talk, eventhough so, she managed quite well. Thumbs up! Everyone listen up!! She mentioned that she will reduce the usage of driving private car and will take public transports. So, if anyone of you saw her driving a car, report it here!!! Thank you!!!Also, the Director of programming (exhibition) was as enthuasiastic as the DJ about environment issues as she shared with the listeners about her habit in 'tabaoing' her food. She said that she will bring along a food container to pack her food or she will quickly dine on spot shoud she forgot to brig one. No plastic bag! That's her motto. Way to go.... Then, the DJ asked, what is the biggest differences that both girls undergo before and after organizing this GREEN event? They believe that now they wanted to share the knowledge and information about conserving the environment with their family and friends, such as using non-woven bag while shopping and think twice before throwing away stuff which is harmful to our environment.Overall, it is a relaxing talk show similar to a chit chat gathering. (From left) Mun Meng and Ms LimYOU KNOW WHAT? Ms Lim actually make fun of the APR 1 students on air!! She said that when students who packed their food with plastic bag and polystyrene saw her and they quickly run away! (Actualy, I might do the same as well, shhhh) She believed that the habit to conserve the environment should start from the education wise. She said she saw us growing. From zero to hero. Although there were many conflicts among the organisers as it happen in all event, we manage to pull it off and had come out with an awesome campaign. She also said that she noticed that many of the organisers have become a 'Greener' person. Thank you, Ms Lim!!Stay tuned.... [...]

Nature never hurries: atom by atom, little by little, she achieves her work. The lesson one learns from yachting or planting is the manners of Nature; patience with the delays of wind and sun, delays of the seasons, bad weather, excess or lack of water.

2nd Day of The Event @ THE FINAL DAY

It’s confusing to see the crews smile today. Are they happy because it’s the final day or they are smiling because of the feedback (not friendly enough…etc) that they received yesterday? Never mind that as today is the day to improve, the day to enjoy; a day to be happy for all sorts of reasons. The day starts as the crowd floods the hall. Just like the first day, the exhibition is the same but there are different activities on stage. It starts with a talk that was filled with quite a number of interactive spectators which is nice to see as it makes the talk livelier and more interesting. Straight after that, the main event of the day: PERFORMANCE BY ARIC HO!!Many might not know who he is but let me tip you guys. He is a Malaysian born, Singaporean based singer, actor and host = artist. He hosted several show in Malaysian and also Singapore and has his own album. The crowd went NUTS while waiting for his appearance. INTRODUCED by a made-shift emcee (1 of our own), Aric (its AAAA-ric not Eric alright?) came out from the shadows, walks-in slowly and gently, says hi and waves to the crowd (the music is playing), picks up his notes and starts singing. His massaging voice made the crowd go melting over as the soothing song echoed the hall. It was nice and good. We are not being buyers but seriously it was nice NOT FORGETTING; GIRLS, HE IS QUITE GOOD LOOKING. After the singing and interviewing, the autograph session went on. Congratulation to all Aric’s fans. Soon after, Aric gets on the floor and visit the exhibition as well. Ushered by our crew, he gain information through explanation and he was quite impressed to show what we have done *applauds*.Aric Ho in the exhibitionAfter he left, there were some other interesting activities went on; THE POTTED TREE PLANTING session. The crowd was asked to join the as there were 50 plants ready to be planted and given away as souvenirs. It was great to see that all 30 sits that were prepared was full and the crowd actually enjoyed the session but it was kind of short to be honest. Smiles from the crowd that join the tree planting sessionIn this exhibition, there are a few things that stand out from the rest of the exhibit items. It catches the eye of many and was always crowded with people. THE MUD-BALL MAKING. Made out of few subtends; it really stinks, the mud-ball function as an “anti-dirty” organic cleanser that actually helps the soil + water in the river to improve. The MUD-BALL maker showing and guiding the crowd on how to make MUD-BALLS.As time goes on, the closing ceremony comes closer. Sharp at 4.30pm, Abby burst into scene and announce the winners of the PAPER TOWER guessing event. It is where stacks of A4 and old newspapers in a tower cage that were counted 1-by-1 by two of our organizing committee in order to let the crowd guess how many pieces of paper that were in the tower. Of coz there were hints, but no one will ever get the exact answer but as close as you gets, you will win prizes worth RM500. We limit the number of contestants to 500 people only just to match the prize. The Grand Winner, Mr Gan Hong Bin!!Straight after that, the closing ceremony was held and it was the end of the event. Overall, the event got quite good comments but of course there were flaws. It was a good effort thrown out by the students, advisors and of course, without the sponsors, NGOs and governmental org’s support, we would not have done it as well as we did.To waste, to destroy our natural resources, to skin and exhaust the land instead of using it so as to increase its usefulness, will result in undermining in the days of our children the very prosperity which we ought by right to hand down to them amplified and developed.~Theodore Roosevelt~[...]

There are more...

After the awesome opening, we have more things awaiting for us! Heard of DiGi Deep Green before? Well, DiGi is very determined to do something about the climate change within its own sphere of influence. Hence, they came to our college at 2.00pm to give a talk about their Deep Green project to educate the students of TARC about the climate change and reducing CO2 emission. Mr Philip was the speaker of the day and thank you for the beneficial talk! Right after DiGi Deep Green talk, One FM Cuiser visited our college!!! It was crazy, i can tell you.Once they started their games, everyone was excited to get the answers right in order to get the prizes. Even, the organising committees get excited. Soon after, the speaker from Justife company, Ms Connie, demostrated the prcoess of making garbage enzyme to the audience. This garbage enzyme was made using unwanted waste and it is organic, not to mention that it is environmental-friendly. Thank you Justlife for the amazing talk! Look forward for the second day....Nature has been for me, for as long as I remember, a source of solace, inspiration, venture, and delight; a home, a teacher, a companion.~Lorraine Anderson~ [...]

Have you ever experience a gang of terrorists in red shirt (looks evil~) crush into your lecture hall during your lecture?? But, in the end I believe that you’re saved by a gang of Earth Ranger who are wearing black (cool~), right? This type creative ways of DK announcement are all conducted by AAV2 students who try to create awareness among the students in our college to support us in saving our Mother Nature!! Let’s recall back what you saw in lecture hall…Ready to act…Preparing SOS Earth TVC…The terrorists are coming in!!! The Mock Event

Mock Event. Sounds close to MOB-EVENT when you pronounce it but it is not alright? Like any other thing in the world, before the real-thing, we run the proposed event and see if its good enough or to say perfect and ready to be seen at the real stage. Amend if its not perfect, decline if its not worth the spot in the event. That’s all about the mock event, kinda. As for this, Ms. Lim (our lecturer/advisor) set a date and venue for us to present or to say to run the “event”. For the activities team and all others that are involved, it’s a big day for them as this is the day to IMPRESS so that they don’t end up DEPRESS. Time ticks, and the clock rings. 0830 Saturday it is, the crew all rushes in to location to do their set-ups according to F.L.O.R.A which stands for; Forest, Land, Ocean, River and Air.*dud cha..dud cha..boom boom cha..*(background song usually played in fashion shows)The arrival of the crew which we have no idea why it looks like they’re doing catwalk The set upsWHILE some are setting up their respective booths, some are still repairing, creating, gluing the props for the mock not forgetting that time is ticking, and is running out as THE CRITIQUE (Ms. Lim) will soon arrive and have a look at it. The ones that are still preparing the props..Like any other place, there will always be a joker fooling around making atmosphere a lil-less tensed. The joker, and yes, our course rep“Stage set, lights on, let the music play and lets start the show!” nah…not like that. Its verdict time and all of them are pretty worried about it as all their hard work will be judged and criticized and maybe applaud.THE CRITIQUE..and yes indeed..K O for fellow crew.. The review..and poor BEN (3rd pic) shot there on the spot.. A few items that will be on event day..this is all I can unveil..come to the event for more and I bet you won’t regret coming as there will be better ones to see.AFTER the mock event, Ms. Lim shares a bit more to the exhibitors as there are gaps for improvement and amendment to be done so that we could present YOU GUYS OUT THERE an event to remember. And finally, at 1430, we are able to flee from there. A just a lil reminder, the event is getting nearer and nearer so be there and there will be lots of fun and experience to gain from.Signing off..[...]

On Progress!!

We are on progress!! But, what’s the progress that they are talking about? You don’t have to guess, let the picture do the talking.Hmmmmm…..posters….Folding it…COME ON!!?!?! A kite……? It can’t be it… HUH??!??! A combination of kites with an additional “something” on it?Still can’t see it eh?? A closer view perhaps…?I bet you are curious. To find out what is it, come to our college hall to find out on as it will be at our meaningful event, “S.O.S Earth” on 11th & 12th August 2009 from 9.30 am to 5.00pm. Be there as you won’t want to miss it.The earth we abuse and the living things we kill will, in the end, take their revenge; for in exploiting their presence we are diminishing our future.~Marya Mannes~[...]

A Meet Up with E-Passion Advertising Enterprise

After Event Management lecture at DKABE, a total of 18 organising committees rush to V block to meet up with the premium supplier. And two hours later, we are to rush back to DKABD to attend another lecture.Definitely a “rush hour” day. However, when we reached the venue, we manage to catch our breath before the E-Passion personnel arrive. Few minutes later, Mr. Sean Long and Mr. Onn Yee Chien founder of E-Passion arrived and we welcome them with our warmest heart. Now, do you know what E-Passion does? Heard on Anplas bag? The word Anplas itself brings a meaning which is anti-plastic. This company promote the environmentally-friendly, colourful and trendy, privileged bags.In order to get the support from Anplas-Bag, S.O.S Earth organizer held a meeting with the two of its founders to negotiate on the amount and better ways in getting sponsorship for the non-woven bag. Mr Onn shared with us his opinion on the environment issue and also the reason behind the creation of ‘Anplas’. They believe that if more and more people use recyclable bag, the usage of plastic will decreased and when the demand is low, the society no longer need plastic bag which is hazardous to the environment. We were very moved by the determination of both founders and we do hope to be able to bring in the Anplas bag into our event. Now, the problem is where do we find sponsor to sponsor for the bag? Discussion was held to seek for the best way in which we can achieve mutually beneficial for both parties. Are we able to get the sponsor? Is Anplas bag is going to appear in our event? Here are a few pictures taken during the meeting. The meeting held between the organizer and Anplas-bag founders Mr. Onn Yee Chien and Mr. Sean Leong in V block at Tunku Abdul Rahman College. Everyone is listening to Mr. Sean.Mr. Sean (first from left) and Mr. Onn (second from left) are explaining about their product and objective of Anplas-Bag.Director of Programming (Activities)(first from left),Director of Advertising and Sponsorship (second from left) and Director of Creative and Design (third from left) are negotiating with Anplas-Bag founders.Mr. Onn is explaining about the advertising and sponsorship package to the organizer.Giving the warmest smile to our guests. Our team members are listening attentively and these are their attentive pose (they just look alike)The GREEN begins here!Nature is trying very hard to make us succeed, but nature does not depend on us. First Meeting with Digi

Nervous!!!This is the type of look you can get from the presenters of the day which are the Director of Advertising and Sponsorship (most nervous individual), Director of Programming (Activities) and Director of Programming (Exhibition).Today is the day whereby the Director of Advertising and Sponsorship will propose their ideas to DiGi and also to persuade the DiGi personnel to sponsor our event. Can you imagine the pressure when the fate of the whole event is on your shoulder? Many of us have the luxury of not knowing but the Advertising and Sponsorship Department have no choice but to endure it. Give them our fullest support!!Practicing…Final preparation… Before the arrival of Ms Julia, representative from DiGi, the presenters were preparing and practicing for the big moment at V102. The rest of us who are not presenting, help to ease their pressure by creating the environment of the meeting such as arranging furniture and clear up any rubbish on the floor.Arranging the furniture according to meeting setting…There is only ONE chance to pitch DiGi.At approximately 5.15pm, the presentation begins! It begins with the presentation from Director of Advertising and Sponsorship introducing S.O.S Earth and the benefit DiGi will get by becoming our main sponsor which include logo appearance in our publicity materials, credit-mentioned, Deep Green talk, Deep Green workshop and so on. Director of Advertising and SponsorshipFollow up by Director of Programming (Exhibition) presenting about the five main elements in which we focus in our event (Forest, Land and Natural Resources, Ocean, River and Air) as well as the Deep Green exhibition booth in the hall.Director of Programming (Exhibition)Then, the Director of Programming (Activities) propose the idea of the launching ceremony whereby DiGi yellow man will walk from DK ABE to College Hall (in case you don’t know, DK ABE is near TARC hostel and is a long route) holding a pot of tree. This symbolizes DiGi is bringing their Green concept into TARC and educating everyone to preserve the environment. Director of Programming (Activities)Soon after the presentation was over, the negotiation stage begins (Pressure!). Ms Julia (middle) express her doubt.. Director of Advertising and Sponsorship (in green) explaining and negotiating with Ms Julia about the proposalHalf way through the meeting, we changed the venue as that classroom will be occupied by other tutorial class. The change of venue seems to lessen up the tense within the room and everyone begin to loosen up a little. Just a little…We move to the next room which is V103 and guess what? The table setting has change too.Ms Lim, why so frustrated? The meeting continues….We are join by the Creative Agency (AAV2 students) after their class.Creative Agency shows the TVC (Television Commercial) to the sponsor. The Creative Agency personnel!!The TVC managed to grab the attention of Ms Julia and leave a great impression on her. Thumbs up to the Agency! What would be the outcome of the meeting? Will we succeed in getting DiGi as our main sponsor or the Advertising and Sponsorship has to continue to worry about the money issues? We make the world we live in and shape our own environment.~Orison Swett Marden~[...]

A Smiling Visit to P.A.S.S

P.A.S.S. (Pertubuhan Amal Seri Sinar) is a non-profit organization that was formed in the year 2003 with the mission to educate the public on recycling for charity. Thus, this organisation becomes our target for coming GREEN TRIP!! 20th July 2009, 8 members from APR1 gathered at TAR College at 2pm and departed to P.A.S.S. at 3pm.Before departing...Why we go there? The main reason is to gain knowledge on recycling matters and also to request for a few materials our upcoming event. So, we planned to pay a visit to P.A.S.S to know more about recycling process and to look for some recycled stuff that can be use during event. Through this visit, we gained valuable knowledge from this huge and systematic recycle centre.Arrived at the location after an hour of tiring journey…The entrance for P.A.S.S. really looks like a chalet…Don’t you think so?While waiting for Dato’ Eadon Ching (founder and president of P.A.S.S), the administration’s staff- Miss Agnes Lee gave us a tour around the centre and share with us about the effort P.A.S.S has made to help protecting the Earth from further destruction. Miss Agnes Lee (from right) was showing the news clipping of all the activities and donation ceremony that has been done by P.A.S.S. To date, P.A.S.S. have donated approximately RM700,000 to charities to help the community in social welfare, education, medical, youth programs and NGO networking regardless of race and religion. Hats off to P.A.S.S!!Before we visited the recycling centre, our impression is that the place would be very dirty and full of dust, but we were wrong, totally wrong! This recycling centre is very clean and systematic. Everyday, the recycling centre will send out 20 lorries to Klang Valley, Shah Alam and Subang to collect all the recycling stuff. After that, they will categorize and place it nicely according to the materials. Besides that, they use energy saving cooling system which helps to improve the comfort of crowded, polluted, hot and stuffy space area. They also have energy saving exhaust system to flush out the hot and pollutted air to keep the air in center fresh!! Cool right? The Water Curtain is build withing the recycling centre to filter the flow of air, reduce the temperature, refresh the air with aromatic fragrance and enhance good energy.Miss Agnes Lee giving us a tour around the recycling centre…Recycle bins are also prepared to let the public to put in their recycle items. These are all the electronic devices such as televisions, DVD players and monitors in which will be sold to a particular electronic company in which they have contract with. All of these clothes will be sent to third world countries to help those who are in-need.Two hours later, we are able to have a short interaction session with Dato’ Eadon Ching, who just came back from his meeting. From the conversation, we found out that the reason he established this centre in the year 2003 is due to the encouragement from his friends. However, his passion and expertise in this field had also contributed to his decision in establishing P.A.S.S.In beginning, he only has RM30, 000.00 to set up for everything, but now, he is able to do charity and donated at least RM700 000 to the charity homes. Why? “Because there is no problem in everything” quote Dato’ Eadon Ching. He hopes that public who are interested in recycling will call them for help as their hotline is accessible and they [...]
