RAYMOND VIRTUAL REALITY SIMULATOR WINS MHI INNOVATION AWARD FOR BEST NEW INNOVATION

Mon, 16 Apr 2018 08:37:46 GMT

GREENE, N.Y., April 12, 2018 — The Raymond Corporation’s Virtual Reality Simulator has won the MHI Innovation Award for Best New Innovation. The Raymond Virtual Reality Simulator is a next-generation tool for lift truck operator learning that provides advanced, hands-on instruction that is designed to improve operator skills, build confidence, help retain employees and keep them learning.

The MHI Innovation Award serves to educate and provide insights on the latest manufacturing and supply chain products and services. For this year’s award, five judges, composed of material handling and supply chain industry professionals, voted on more than 100 product submissions and four finalists were chosen in each category — best new innovation, best innovation of an existing product and best IT innovation — based on concept, value and impact.

The MHI Innovation Award winners were announced during the MHI Industry Night on Wednesday, April 11, at MODEX 2018.

“To attract new talent to the industry and rapidly reach high proficiency levels, the Raymond Virtual Reality Simulator ensures lift truck operators are coached quickly and confidently — all before reaching the warehouse floor,” said Michael Field, CEO, Raymond. “Innovations like this exemplify our commitment to keeping customers running better and managing smarter and planning for our future customer needs while increasing a business’ productivity and efficiency.”

The Raymond Virtual Reality Simulator is the first of a kind to allow an operator to enter a simulated warehousing environment using an existing Raymond® forklift by plugging into the company’s patent-pending sPort, or Simulation Port. After the vehicle is no longer needed for instruction, the sPort can be disconnected, and the forklift can be placed back into operation in the warehouse. Leveraging existing Raymond assets in a warehouse or distribution center’s fleet eliminates the need to purchase or store purpose-built training trucks.

TOYOTA FORKLIFTS OFFERS A NEW SOLUTION WITH HEAVY-DUTY PRODUCT EXPANSION

Mon, 16 Apr 2018 08:36:37 GMT

COLUMBUS, Ind. (April 5, 2018) – Toyota Forklifts is raising the bar with its newest additions to the THD product line. The number one forklift manufacturer in North America announced today the launch of their adjustable wheelbase forklifts with the capacity to lift from 15,000 to 80,000 pounds.

Named for the horizontally adjustable wheelbase, the newest cushion tire forklift to hit manufacturing floors this year is unlike any other Toyota forklift. Small enough to navigate tight spaces and strong enough to lift up to 80,000 pounds when fully extended, it adds safety and confidence to lifting large, bulky and oddly shaped loads like machinery. And with its stacked plate counterweight and low profile design, it can go into locations conventional forklifts cannot access.

Along with the unique horizontally adjustable wheelbase, the new Heavy-Duty model features rigger boom attachments for additional load support, a 2-speed hydrostatic transmission and a 7-inch color LCD multi-function touch screen to increase productivity, efficiency and convenience.

The new Heavy-Duty adjustable wheelbase models include:
  • Wheelbase extendable from 36 inches to 48 inches depending on model
  • Quick change fork system
  • Multiple display features
  • Onboard estimated capacity calculator
  • Engine fault code diagnostics and troubleshooting guides
  • Operators and service manuals loaded in the display
  • Dual fuel engines
  • Electronically activated hydraulic controls
The newest models also feature an optional wireless remote control for operating the forklift outside of the normal seating position, which includes travel, steering and lifting functions. The optional wireless remote control allows the operator to guide the forklift precisely under the load for those high value moves, and can reduce the amount of spotters needed for a job.

This expansion is the fourth since launching the Heavy-Duty product line in 2015.

Mon, 16 Apr 2018 08:31:30 GMT

Rotacaster presents an all-new multi-directional omni-wheel: The 50. Produced by the worlds only dedicated omni-wheel manufacturer, Rotacaster designed the new wheel with input from a wide range of users in an effort to improve performance and value.

Substantially redesigned inside and out, the 50mm Rotacaster delivers long sought-after advantages when compared to the current 48mm wheel, which includes:
  • A broader range of fitments thanks to an innovating new insert hub system
  • Fewer SKU's to support an even broader range of fitments and applications
  • Optional steel bearings available
  • Custom configurations with reduced lead-times and volume requirements
  • Reliable and impact-resistant for idler and driven applications
These advantages have been realised thanks to an increase in the wheel and roller diameters and an inner 14mm hexagonal bore with a 16x5mm outer bearing seat/recess. Over-moulded steel roller axles will become available for applications with high lateral (sideways) duty and loads.

Great news! Pricing will be more competitive than the current 48mm wheel.

Lower prices, fewer stocking units and reduced production lead times will make the all new 50mm multi-directional wheel a future best seller.

The 48mm wheel remains available, in the best-selling configurations, going forward. Rotacasters are the world’s toughest, most robust and corrosion resistant omni-wheels.

Tompkins Robotics, a Division of Tompkins International, Partners with RightHand Robotics for Portable Material Handling Systems

Mon, 16 Apr 2018 08:26:40 GMT

Raleigh, NC - Tompkins Robotics, a division of Tompkins International, and RightHand Robotics, a leader in robotic piece-picking solutions, announced today a collaboration that will combine the world’s first portable, automated sortation system, t-Sort, with RightPick, robotic piece-picking systems, providing unmatched flexibility and throughput for eCommerce and omni-channel fulfillment.   “The response from customers visiting our recently re-launched Emerging Technology Center to see these two systems working together has been extremely positive,” said Mike Futch, President of Tompkins Robotics. “Integrating RightHand’s best-in-class piece-picking technology with, Tompkins Robotics t-Sort provides a solution that can flexibly scale from a small operation in the backroom of a supercenter or mall anchor store, to dedicated fulfillment center application, processing millions of units a day.”   Tompkins Robotics offers the patented automated sortation system, t-Sort, in North America and Europe. This new and innovative robotic technology, proven in large eCommerce fulfillment installations, will help build world-class supply chains, providing unmatched flexibility and throughput. The t-Sort system performs much like a conventional tilt tray or crossbelt sorter. However, the unique and exciting difference is it uses completely independent robots. This difference provides any-to-any flow from induct stations to divert points in a modular system that is easy to reconfigure as business scales or to accommodate seasonal peaks.   “With t-Sort, Tompkins Robotics is delivering innovation to help retailers growing their eCommerce platforms or leveraging existing store footprint in an omni-channel business model,” said Leif Jentoft, Co-Founder of RightHand Robotics. “Combined with our ability to deliver the 3Rs of robotic piece-picking – range of products, rate, and reliability – with our RightPick. AI software, we believe, provides a welcome new set of options to our customers. We have recently installed t-Sort in our RightHand Robotics Demo Center and have already scheduled visits.”   RightPick is a combined software and hardware solution that handles the key task of picking individual items for eCommerce order fulfillment.  With RightPick, businesses can reduce costs and improve reliability of the fulfillment process for pharmaceuticals, electronics, grocery, apparel, and countless other industries. Unlike traditional factory robots, RightPick handles hundreds of thousands of different items using a machine learning backend, coupled with an intelligent gripper that works in concert with industry-leading robotic arms.   Tompkins Robotics and RightHand Robotics will be showcasing their technologies at MODEX in Atlanta, GA April 9-12. For DBS, MODEX 2018 debut features industry’s first ever ‘Decking Beam Rack’

Mon, 16 Apr 2018 08:25:36 GMT

ATLANTA— 10-April-2018 — Today at MODEX 2018, Plainfield, Indiana-based Decking Beam Services (DBS) announced the unveiling of the transportation industry’s first and only Decking Beam Racks, an innovative tool for storage and shipment of load bars and decking beams.

“This is a tremendous value-add for Warehouse Mangers and Safety Directors across the logistics landscape” said K.C. Kern, President at DBS. “Decking Beam Racks are a proven and effective tool for managing beams when they are not in use. Our customers have seen ergonomic benefits and labor savings as a result and we are proud to partner with MODEX 2018 to present this innovative solution on a national stage.

A Dedicated Leasing Option for Suppliers
Many suppliers have already experienced the benefit of Decking Beam Racks through DBS managed equipment leasing programs. In those programs, DBS collaborates with shippers to provide equipment to their carriers and 3PLs. “When it comes to transportation spend, people tend to think in terms of cost per mile. We work with our suppliers to focus on reducing cost per unit,” Kern said. “Decking Beams provide this opportunity by cutting the number of loads required to ship the same volume. The leasing option eliminates upfront investment while allowing our suppliers to enjoy immediate cost savings.”

Founded in 2009, Plainfield, Indiana based Decking Beam Services (DBS) is an industry leader in stacking solutions for non-stack freight. For more information, visit www.deckingbeamservices.com.

CUSTOMIZED SOLUTIONS AT THE HEART OF ITC MANUFACTURING

Mon, 16 Apr 2018 08:22:22 GMT

Atlanta – (April 9, 2018) – MODEX 2018 - ITC Manufacturing, a premier manufacturer of wire mesh products for the material handling industry, is proud to offer fully custom solutions for racking manufacturers and end-users to ensure a streamlined warehousing process. Some of these custom pieces that have helped solve end-user challenges can be seen in the ITC Manufacturing booth B3269 this week at MODEX 2018.

“ITC’s core principle is to deliver exactly what is needed to solve a problem in the warehouse environment.  We work with our customers face-to-face to fully understand the end-user’s application and how the rack system will be utilized,” said Tyler Leintz, Director of Sales at ITC Manufacturing.  “From there, ITC’s team of designers engineer a solution based on the application and overall needs of the customer to deliver a solution that solves a problem and enables the end-user to maximize their investment.”

ITC Manufacturing is a leader in the material handling industry providing wire mesh products to support the world’s shipping and warehousing network.  With plant locations in Phoenix, Arizona and Columbus, Ohio, ITC Manufacturing continues to invest in new technology and operates the most automated wire mesh welding plants in the United States serving all of North America, Mexico and Canada.

Exide Technologies Unveils Lithium-Ion Battery to Power Material Handling Systems at MODEX 2018

Wed, 11 Apr 2018 08:09:00 GMT

Atlanta, Georgia – (April 10, 2018) – Exide Technologies (www.exide.com) announced today at MODEX 2018 the launch of its GNB LiFTFORCE LPX lithium-ion battery in the U.S. The LiFTFORCE LPX can charge in just 15 minutes, up to eight times faster than a traditional lead-acid battery, and provides increased cycle life and lower maintenance requirements for Class I, II, and III forklifts as well as Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and other demanding applications. It’s an ideal solution for large distribution centers and companies that run heavy-duty or multiple shifts looking to lower their operational costs.   The LiFTFORCE LPX was first introduced in Europe in 2013 under the brand name GNB Sonnenschein® Lithium, where it has demonstrated high performance for around-the-clock powering of forklifts. It has proven especially valuable in three-shift operations where battery replacement would normally be required.   “Lithium-ion battery applications are on the rise globally due to the exceptional benefits in capacity, size, maintenance and performance,” said Ted Becker, Exide Technologies President, Americas. “The LiFTFORCE LPX is a great addition to our extensive battery portfolio, which includes both lead-acid and lithium-ion options to meet the evolving power needs of the material handling industry.”   Top overall benefits of the LiFTFORCE LPX are streamlined operations, reduced downtime and lower total cost of ownership than traditional lead-acid batteries. Additional benefits include the following: Greater energy efficiency: same energy as a lead-acid battery in a smaller and lighter package 24/7 forklift operation using the same battery with only short bursts of recharging needed while workers are on breaks Freed-up floor space for storage and operations due to the ability to use wall chargers; this also eliminates the need to shuffle cumbersome batteries in and out of the forklift Lower maintenance requirements than lead-acid batteries due to eliminated need for watering Specialized electronic BMS (Battery Management System) monitors the status and health of each battery The LiFTFORCE LPX battery will be commercially available beginning in July.   Exide’s GNB Industrial Power division is at the forefront of lithium-ion battery advances, working closely with several material handling OEMs and end users to assess the value of the solution. NextShift Robotics Unveils New Robotics System For eCommerce Order Fulfillment and Cellular Manufacturing at MODEX 2018 Conference

Tue, 10 Apr 2018 07:58:49 GMT

ATLANTA, April 09, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- As manufacturing and supply chain industry leaders gather this week at MODEX 2018, the largest manufacturing and supply chain expo of the year, NextShift Robotics (Booth #C2363) is unveiling their new robotics system for use in eCommerce warehouses and cellular manufacturing. NextShift Robotics’ unique independent robot/independent worker approach helps eCommerce distribution centers expedite order picking and fulfillment.    “NextShift Robotics makes eCommerce fulfillment dramatically more efficient and less costly,” said Mary Ellen Sparrow, co-founder and CEO of NextShift Robotics. “Our robots collaborate with workers, allowing them to pick merchandise quickly and efficiently. Workers stay in their dynamic zones while robots do the rest – loading and unloading heavy order-totes unassisted, and carrying them over long distances. We are able to get very high throughput improvements using our proprietary algorithm that independently optimizes the orders, the robots and the workers- there is no leading, following or waiting for the robot.”   NextShift’s robotic fleet manufactured and developed specifically for the warehouse environment. Self-lighting and smart navigation technology combined with the unique capability to load and unload order-totes unassisted allows these robots to be used in flexible ways. They are designed using the highest safety standards to recognize humans and skirt obstacles in their paths, stopping to give way to people, and keep working while workers take breaks.   NextShift’s scalable solution provides the ability to quickly and easily integrate into an existing facility setup, without the need for expensive infrastructure changes. The NextShift system uses real-time monitoring and analytics to improve fulfillment time and ensure 100% accuracy. Distribution centers and manufacturing sites with existing infrastructure can easily graduate to a scalable and flexible NextShift material handling solution. The system installs easily and requires minimal training to use. The solution can be fully operational in 4-6 weeks, increases warehouse efficiency 2-6X, and achieves ROI in under a year.    NextShift Robotics will showcase their collaborative mobile robotic solution at MODEX Booth #C2363.   About NextShift Robotics NextShift Robotics designs and manufactures collaborative, autonomous, mobile robotic systems that increase productivity in manufacturing and distribution centers. The company was founded to revolutionize material handling for e-retailers, 3PLs, OEMs, manufacturers, and brick and mortar businesses. Our uniquely dynamic robotic technology dramatically speeds up execution and increases existing warehouse capacity. DEMATIC INTRODUCES PORTFOLIO OF AUTOMATED SOLUTIONS FOR OMNI-CHANNEL FULFILLMENT

Tue, 10 Apr 2018 07:55:47 GMT

GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN – April 9, 2018 – Dematic, a leading global supplier of integrated automated technology, software and services to optimize the supply chain, today introduces a portfolio of automated solutions that make piece, case and pallet handling more efficient, productive and responsive to today’s on-demand omni-channel distribution environment at MODEX 2018. The solution sets include: Dynamic Order Fulfillment, Robotic Warehouse Automation and Mobile Automation — all powered by Dematic iQ performance optimizing software.   Dynamic Order Fulfillment The Dematic Order Fulfillment engine is an on-demand order assembly system powered by Dematic iQ. Dematic iQ manages orders, inventory, labor and automated equipment to orchestrate and optimize the order fulfillment process in a real-time manner. Dematic iQ advanced analytics dashboards, maintenance and other decision support tools that help users fine-tune their operation and minimize downtime will also be on display.   The Order Fulfillment inventory storage engine consists of a high density staging sub-system that is offered in three formats: Multishuttle, Miniload and the Dematic AutoStore solution. Dematic Order Fulfillment solutions can be configured with a wide variety of workstations and interface points:   Goods-to-Person: The ergonomic goods-to-person order picking workstation includes a graphical user interface for pick instructions, with a “pick-from inventory tote” and “put-to-order” configuration. Order accuracy is enhanced as an image of the item to be picked appears on the flat screen. Pick rates are dramatically increased reducing warehouse staff size and order processing time. The contents of an order are packed into a cardboard shipping container, bag, envelope or tote at the workstation.   Goods-to-Robot: The Robotic Piece Picking Module is at the heart of Dematic’s Goods-to-Robot picking solution. It integrates advanced vision, imaging, software, and robotic arm and gripper technologies to eliminate costly picking labor. The solution rapidly scans and verifies the content of incoming containers, determines the orientation of each piece, and delicately grips, lifts and transfers each item to complete shipment.   Automatic Pick Face Replenishment: To increase inventory accuracy and eliminate the labor required for manual replenishment, the automated inventory storage sub-system (Multishuttle or Miniload) provides automated pick slot replenishment for side of aisle picking. Response time to refill an empty pick slot is reduced and the wide dedicated aisles for manual replenishment in the warehouse are omitted.   LED PickCart: The LED PickCart is an order assembly method for piece picking applications. LED Light displays and scan validation support high accuracy and labor productivity. It is designed around a process improvement that supports gains in worker productivity, ergonomics and order accuracy along with real-time control. Multiple orders are picked with one pass through the picking aisles. The PickCart is also available as a voice-directed solution.   Decanting: The decanting workstation provides put-away functionality for the storage sub-system. It acts as the inbo[...]

ORBIS® FEATURING PLASTIC VS. WOOD PALLET LIFE-CYCLE ANALYSIS AT MODEX 2018

Tue, 10 Apr 2018 07:53:39 GMT

OCONOMOWOC, Wis., USA – April 9, 2018 – ORBIS® Corporation, an international leader in reusable packaging, is helping attendees refine their pallets at MODEX 2018. At its booth, ORBIS is hosting an exclusive “Refine Your Pallet” chocolate tasting while showcasing the benefits of reusable plastic pallets compared with wood, including the results of its latest pallet analysis. ORBIS and its experts are at Booth B3735 during the show, April 9-12, in Atlanta.   “ORBIS is going to new lengths to educate customers on plastic pallet benefits. We worked with researchers from the Virginia Tech Center for Packaging and Unit Load Design to test the life span of wood and plastic pallets,” said Ryan Roessler, plastic pallets product manager for ORBIS. “The analysis included inspection of the pallets after they underwent a 10-step handling sequence. In the end, the plastic pallet completed up to 200 sequences without failure and, on average, the wood pallet completed approximately 11.”   Plastic pallets are designed for regulated and transparent supply chains, with their all-plastic, nonporous surface that prevents absorption of foreign particles and contaminants. They also will not warp, shed debris, and expose splinters or nails to interfere with high-speed automated systems. To further reduce supply chain risk, many ORBIS 40x48-inch pallets feature Proliant™, ORBIS’ new Factory Mutual (FM)-approved and FDA-compliant fire-retardant plastic material.   In addition to plastic pallets, the ORBIS booth is showcasing a variety of other reusable packaging solutions, including:   Custom Packaging ORBIS will feature its variety of ORBIShield® dunnage solutions for totes and bulk containers. Experts will be available to speak about ORBIS’ recent acquisition of Response Packaging, as well as the new ORBIShield Innovation Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina.   Picking totes for e-commerce  E-commerce retail sales are growing at double-digit rates each year and are expected to hit $4 trillion by 2020. This means picking, fulfillment and distribution are changing rapidly. ORBIS offers a family of all-plastic totes that work in all types of picking environments, from manual to highly automated.   Totes for automation ORBIS’ series of totes designed for automated systems are available at ORBIS’ booth. Dimensionally consistent for seamless integration with today’s high-speed systems, these totes are made in a variety of footprints and often customized to meet system requirements.   43x30 small-format pallets  Brick-and-mortar stores are downsizing, so backroom storage space is limited, and aisles and doors are very narrow. As a result, these stores need smaller-format pallets that can easily fit through tight spaces. Small-scale stores require fewer products per delivery, as well as more frequent and just-in-time deliveries. ORBIS’ small-format pallets are designed for these delivery needs, enabling vertically efficient unit loads, optimizing delivery truck space and speeding up merchandising.   800mm x 600mm (32inx23in) Pally[...]

Lakewood, NJ – April 9, 2018 – UNEX Manufacturing, Inc., the trusted industry leader in providing innovative order picking solutions, announces the acquisition of SpeedCell Storage Systems of Zeeland, MI. SpeedCell’s dynamic high-density storage solution products complement Unex’s Span-Track Carton Flow and Flow Cell product lines, bringing an added dimension of a high-density storage medium to the pick, put or assembly line. The UNEX SpeedCell product line is a unique low cost solution to increase SKU density while reducing actual space requirements.    “We are very excited with this addition of SpeedCell and how it complements our pick, put and place storage solutions for manufacturing and distribution right up to the last mile,” said Mark Neuwirth, VP of Business Development, UNEX Manufacturing. “We now have a better solution for those items whose throughput simply require a better pick and storage medium then settling for traditional static shelving.”   UNEX unveiled the merger on the eve of MODEX 2018, one of the world’s largest material handling and supply chain shows. UNEX has acquired the business assets of SpeedCell Storage Systems, manufacturer of the SpeedCell dynamic high-density storage solution products.   “Bringing high-density solutions to UNEX’s foremost Flow Cell Span-Track systems reduces  labor cost per pick, eliminates the need to hire additional workers and increases productivity,” adds Neuwirth. “It’s a win-win situation for both companies and the industry.”   The UNEX SpeedCell replaced deep cardboard boxes holding products for one customer, resulting in eliminating beam levels and adding locations at the floor level. By removing deep pins, order pickers have to simply reach into the cells and select parts, saving time. Picks are more ergonomic as multiple levels were eliminated.   About UNEX Manufacturing, Inc. Founded in 1964, UNEX is the trusted industry leader in order picking solutions that maximize space usage, increase pick rates and improve ergonomics.
