William Knowles, 2001 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, passes away

William Knowles, awarded the 2001 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for developing a catalyst that could create L-DOPA, the chiral molecule that became an important treatment for Parkinson's, died on 13 June 2012, age 95. See this video from the 2001 award ceremony when Knowles received the Nobel Prize.

2012 Nobel Prize Concert

The 2012 Nobel Prize Concert on December 8 will feature conductor, Christoph Eschenbach, one of the greatest conductors of our age. The soloist is the young violinist Ray Chen. Maestro Eschenbach will be conducting the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in a programme comprising Beethoven's Egmont Overture, Bruch's violin concerto and Mahler's first symphony.

See the new educational game from Nobelprize.org, "The Blood Typing Game". It is designed to help students ages 14-17 to distinguish between different blood types by administering virtual blood transfusions to patients. This unique game is based upon the 1930 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine awarded to Karl Landsteiner for the discovery of human blood groups. Available for free on Nobelprize.org and accessible through computers, android tablets and interactive whiteboards, the game is linked to tutorials which teachers can easily incorporate into the class room.
