Operating Systems: Microsoft Windows (98 to VISTA), MS-DOS. **Currently learning LINUX/UNIX (self-study)Languages:ALP: Assembly Language programming was first used for 8086 processor and 8051 processor in undergraduate degree. Micro Interfacing course in Spring 2007 encouraged use of ALP for the Motorola HCS12 family. "Wall Following Robot" was implemented using ALP in HCS12 micro-controller. Used ALP in MSP430 (Texas Instruments) for master's project - "Evaluation and real time implementation of different wireless communication techniques for an indoor wireless channel using the TRF6903 EVM".C/C++: Mostly academic experience. Practical implementation of C++ was used in senior design project "Vision Based Robotic System" and for other in class projects where different characteristics of OOP were investigated and implemented. C was used in the course "Parallel Processing using MPI library" in Spring 2006.MATLAB: Considerably proficient in MATLAB and all the basic tool boxes offered within the language. Matlab programming was first used in the senior design project in 2003 and has been used regularly for various academic projects as well as for simulation purposes.PERL: Beginner level proficiency. Was applied in VHDL course for handling huge scripts. Most assignments were assigned to students as a part of the coursework.PIC BASIC: Highly proficient in PIC BASIC with respect to most of the PIC micro-controllers. First used in Jan 2003 with PIC 16F84 and then used with PIC 16F874.Simulation Softwares:LABVIEW: Considerably proficient. Labview was first used in Summer 2006, while working as a Lab Setup Managet for Electrical Engineering Department of St. Mary's University, San Antonio. It was later used extensively for academic projects and for the project "Elevator Design, Implementaion and Simulation using Labview".SIMULINK: Moderately Proficient. Was used as a tool in academic courses to understand subject matter better.Multisim: Extensively used for circuit simulation and analysis along with many other similar tools.Tools:Cadence OrCAD-Capture, Layout & P-spice: OrCAD was used while working as Voluntary Circuit Design Engineer for Real India Orphan Home, in order to design the board and to simulate the circuit design and while woking as Circuit Design Engineer for Eikone Inc. It was also used academically for in-class projects and assignments.Altera - Quartus-II, & MAX Plus-II : It was used for VHDL design simulation and synthesis during Fall 2006 semester for the course VHDL. Model Sim and Precision : It was used during undergraduate study for design, simulation and synthesis of VHDL designs. Microsoft Office Tools –Word, Excel, Access, Power point : Regularly used for documentation, presentation and maintainability.Adobe Photoshop: Used for photo-related jobs, mostly for personal use.NI ELVIS Development System: Extensively used while working as a Lab Setup Manager and during academic projects for courses like Data Acquisition, Presentation & Analysis and Digital Control Systems. Omega tool(Ericsson): Data processing tool, used at Ericsson, while working as R.F Engineering Intern. The tool was used to generate calculated data and reports which were used for analysis. MapInfo v7.8: Mapping Software used to make geographic maps and lay network maps over it. This tool was extensively used at Ericsson for mapping drive routes and other relevant information such as S/N ratio, RSSI, BLER, Dropped calls, Call setup failures etc. TEMS Data Investigation: An analysis tool in Ericsson used for analyzing drive test data and observing layer 3 messages in order to determine problem areas of a call. QFD Capture (Quality Function Deployment tool): A product development tool that was used academically in Engineering project management and was later used for self study while working as Circuit Design Engineer in order to derive design targets and identify design parameters.NI Circuit Design Suite – MultiSim and Ultiroute :Extensively used academically and while working as a Circuit Design Engineer. •SENIOR DESIGN PROJECT: Vision Based Robotic System

2007-07-19T23:09:44.265-07:00

  • AIM: The primary aim of this project was to get hands on experience with hardware, software and interface between hardware and software.
  • PROJECT DESCRIPTION:The project consisted of a robot which was designed to move front, back, left and right. It had a arm which could go right, left, up, down and a claw to hold small objects. A conveyor belt was placed which would stop whenever an object comes to the place where the robot collects the object. The robot would then take a picture of the object, detect its shape using Digital Image Processing and Neural Network, and based on the shape of the object, would pick and place it in its respective box.
  • IMPLEMENTATION: The robot hardware was built in the Mechanical Engineering Lab using lab tools and general hardware equipment. Five stepper motors were used for the robot to move front/back, rotate arm right/left, lift arm, grip the claw and to turn the robot left/right. All the stepper motors required a driver circuit which was designed and fabricated in the Circuits Lab (including the PCB). An interface circuit was designed to control the robot via PC LPT port. 4:16 decoder was used to increase the I/O lines available from the LPT port and corresponding logic was implemented in the C++ program. The conveyor belt was controlled with a DC motor and an IR sensor. A webcam was connected to the PC, which was interfaced with MATLAB and the "Digital Image Processing" and "Neural Network" tool boxes were used to implement the image recognition portion of the project. An interface between MATLAB and C++ was made in order to call the function corresponding to the shape of the object, to make the robot perform the respective task.
  • STATUS: The project was completed successfully
  • ACHIEVEMENT: The project was selected as an exhibit at the "National Technical Exhibition" held at Hyderabad, India in September 2003.

•PROJECT: Digital Image Processing

2007-07-19T22:38:16.261-07:00

  • AIM: The primary aim of this project was to get familiar with MATLAB Digital Image processing tool box and to use it creatively along with in-class knowledge to design and implement a real time system. The project was designed to detect a stop sign from a color image taken in a busy environment.
  • IMPLEMENTATION: The project required to understand basic image processing topics and knowledge of the MATLAB image processing tool box. The project required to implement image filtering for noise and feature extraction techniques, based on the application. In this case, for a STOP sign the features chosen were color and number of sides. Hough's Transform was used to determine the number of edges and a heuristic approach was made towards filtering the image for determining the parts of image which had red color. Based on these results the system would determine whether the image had a stop sign or no.
