Summer Fun!

It's hot here in Louisiana but it's August and to be expected.  I'm spending my days in my studio having a blast filling orders for cards and making new friends.  Here are a few of my latest cards that are in the shabby-chic style.  If you are interested in buying some of my cards or seeing what is in my shop, here is the link - Thank you for visiting!

New Cards In My Etsy Shop!

I have been having a ball making greeting cards and selling them.  Recently I got into "Pop Up Box" cards, which are 3D until you fold them flat for mailing.  Fun!  This one is now for sale in my Etsy Shop ( ) - Isn't it the cutest thing?  A baby crib filled with goodies done in yellows.  Here are more that have already sold -  This one is an

My First Online Challenge

I entered my first online challenge!  I was to make a tag for the Unity Stamp Company on Facebook using one of their images.  This is the image I entered and even though I didn't win, the tags that did win were pretty spectacular so I was happy for them.  Really! I have been making cards for several weeks now, and it feels great to be back creating with a purpose.  I'm learning new techniques

Since the weather turned cold, I needed to start spending time in my studio again.  I couldn't get motivated to do anything at all, so went online to see if something would jump out at me.  Cards!  Easy and quick to make and should do the trick.... well, they have.  I started doing Christmas cards and then thought I would make some greeting card sets to give as presents or sell in my store.  I

II Timothy Completed

The II Timothy Angel is Completed! I had a great time working on this 3rd commission for a client.  The Philippians Angel was for her sister and she asked me to do two more paintings for her sister's two daughters.  I had finished the Matthew Angel and immediately went to work on the II Timothy Angel. Phase I - I decided that since the two paintings were for sisters, I would make

Matthew Angel Commission Stage 3 - Completed!

Matthew Angel 24x30" Mixed Media - Commissioned Yay!  I finished my 2nd commissioned angel in my 'Angels with Bible Verses' series.  What a joy to work on - I never felt blocked (for very long) or tired while working on her.  I wish my muse was around all the time, it sure would go faster and easier.  Now on to the next one, woohoo!

Matthew Angel Commission - Stage 2

This is in the fine development stage of the 2nd angel of 3 that I'm working on.  I decided to go with a stained glass effect for her wings to set the bible verses on which are done in white and black.  I will cover them with more layers of paint or stain or whatever happens next!  The gown will definitely be mixed media but here I am playing with the colors to make sure I am balanced.  Her

Matthew Angel Commission - Stage 1

This is the start of the 2nd of 3 Angels with Bible verses that I have started working on in my studio.  Most of the features are set, body and wings are set and now for the fun part - slapping paint around!  I have no idea at this point what I will do next but that is the exciting element, layer over layer until it sings to me. Gawdamighty, I love this part!

Complete! Philippians Angel Commission

PHILIPPIANS ANGEL - 22x28" Mixed Media Commissioned I am excited to announce that I have completed my 'Philippians Angel' for a client.  She has many verses of the Bible from the book of Philippians.  I enjoyed working on this painting because there are so many verses that I strive to live by with the main one being "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me". There are a

Owning a website is so FRUSTRATING!

You know those feelings you get when you've been working on your website for days, missing all the glorious weather outside, not talking to anyone, missing all the glorious weather outside, not getting enough sleep, getting aches and pains in strange places and you're about to put a gun to your head?  Yup, that's my life the last couple of days. DON'T EVER DELETE YOUR 'HOME PHONE NUMBER'

Love My Gelli Plates!

Gelli Plates are now a very useful tool in my studio for my mixed media art.  You can see them here plus there are videos that show you the different ways to use them - Gelli Plates Website  I'm even using them in my mixed media paintings and will share when completed. I transfer the leftover paint on my roller to envelopes instead of a journal or plain paper.  This way I have gorgeous

Chicken Coop Signage

I finished the chicken coop sign and my son-in-law Brandon installed it for me.  Now my brain is already thinking about new art for the coop... it's so addicting.  I had painted the coop to match the house but now I'm thinking it would be fun to do something different so we'll see!

Philippians Angel Commission Stage 2

I now have reached Stage 2 - the face is nearly complete and the wings and background are ready for bible verses and mixed media application.  Let the fun begin!

Philippians Angel Commission - Stage 1

I have been commissioned to create more of my 'angels with words' for a client so I am off and running! My first angel at Stage 1 - this is where I sit and ruminate, chew, fix, change, decide how I want to continue.  There are always wonky things at this stage because it is testing out colors and design like a 1st draft of a book.  The mistakes can eat at you if you let it, but it's all in the

New Chair for Granddaughter Molly!

I finished the toddler chair for my granddaughter Molly! It is done in different shades of pink with green, cream and yellow added for contrast.  I used a Fleur de lis in the seat center to show that I live in Louisiana now.  What a fun project!

New Studio Is Organized Chaos!

It's true that most artists live in clutter up to their eyeballs because of all the supplies needed to quench their thirst for expression, but it's usually "organized chaos".  Since moving into my new place, most of my time has been spent working on the outside of the property, leaving the inside until it's too cold to work outside.  Well.... winter is here so I've been working on making my

Miss Lisa's Dating Advice Column Created!

I've started an online Dating Advice Column!  I started sharing my dating woes over on FaceBook and because people were messaging me with their dating questions, I started a page to share with others.  It's been so much fun!  I decided to expand the audience and share the same column here.  If you have dating relationship questions, don't be shy, message me over here: http://

Chicken Coop Is Finally Finished!

I'm so excited! The coop is finished and I now am the proud momma to a Roo named Rhett, his wives Scarlett, Miss Pittypat and Mammie.  I also have 3 pullets that I haven't named yet because I'm waiting to see their personalities develop first.  Here it is complete with flower boxes added for color and the nesting boxes have leopard curtains.  This is one cool coop!   I now

Fresh Eggs Are Coming To Lisa's Green Acres!

I am thrilled to say that I will have chickens soon!  I have always wanted to keep them but due to neighborhood covenants over the last 30 years it just hasn't been possible.  Now that I have all this property, it is finally time to build the coop and get this operation going. Normally we are cold around here in February with a lot of great 70 degree days.  For Louisiana, snow in winter is

Summertime and the Living is Easy... at Lisa's Green Acres mini-ranch!

It's hot and humid as usual for September but that's okay, I've moved to the country (not really but it feels like it) where life is slower paced or at least will be when I finish unpacking.  I've moved from a  regular neighborhood close to everything to a 7 acre horse ranch, (which is even closer to everything) complete with paddock and 5 stall barn.  No, I'm not the horsey type, but I saw the

My Beautiful Mom...

My mother, Peg Howard, is now at peace and out of pain.  I imagine her up in Heaven with Dad, in her 24 year old body, surrounding herself with family members that passed before, happy as a lark. She is responsible for all my artistic endeavors, singing, piano, my art passion.  She made sure I had voice and piano lessons and NEVER pushed me into going for dance or swim team (

Summer - July Update

Life is good, fun, and hard at the same time... - I am working on several paintings at the same time, trying to decide which painting to enter in each of the shows I'm entering in the Fall. - I have traveled a little this Summer, no where exotic, but it felt good to be back in Oklahoma City again and the trips to New Orleans were a blast!  Looking forward to seeing a new grand-baby in Houston

"Saint Hermenegildo" by Corrado Giaquinto

I am working on a large (to me) painting trying to improve my skills.  I decided to copy a piece I saw when my museum had an exhibit called "Heart of Spain" several years ago.  I fell in love with "Saint Hermenegildo" by Corrado Giaquinto.  I have been studying the works of the old masters and when I read that all of them would copy other artists' works when they were starting out, I decided to

My Dad 6/15/1928 - 9/21/2011

Col. Robert (Bob) E. Howard, Jr. USMC (Ret.) 15 June 1928 - 21 September 2011 (picture: 'Oklahoma Military Hall of Fame Award Ceremony' Nov 2010) A memorial service for Oklahoma City resident, Col. Robert E. Howard Jr., USMC (Ret.), is scheduled Saturday, Oct. 22, at 11 a.m., at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Oklahoma City. Col. Howard died Sept. 21 at the VA Medical Center,

3 Years Later...

August is here already which is shocking to me. I feel like it is still June somehow. When August rolls around my heart sinks because the 5th is AC's death anniversary and this month it will be 3 years. I can feel myself getting down and sad, but that's okay. I still think it is better to let it take over knowing that life will interrupt my sadness and this week will pass. I miss him so
