With the Los Angeles Lakers mired in the worst years in franchise history, owner Jeanie Buss has turned to Magic Johnson to lead them back to championship contention. In nearly 3 years on job, Phil Jackson hasn't fixed Knicks (Yahoo Sports)

Wed, 22 Feb 2017 00:21:41 PST

Carmelo Anthony had a half-season of clues about what Phil Jackson thought of him, and now it was his turn to evaluate his boss. Anthony had trumpeted his trust in Jackson when he re-signed in 2014 and reaffirmed it months later, even as Jackson continued trading away key players from the best team Anthony ever played on in New York. The Knicks are 23-34, 12th in the Eastern Conference and on pace to miss the playoffs for the third time in Jackson's three full seasons as president of basketball operations.

Memphis has healthy roster for playoff push in stretch run (Yahoo Sports)

Tue, 21 Feb 2017 13:28:27 PST

The Memphis Grizzlies' latest injury reports need a second glance, they appear a bit suspect. No knee problems requiring forward Chandler Parsons to sit. There's not even foot problems for All-Star center Marc Gasol.

Play vs. Rest: For many NBA teams, it's still a real battle (Yahoo Sports)

Tue, 21 Feb 2017 12:11:40 PST

There are 27 games remaining on Cleveland's regular-season schedule, and perhaps only one person over that stretch will be able to stop LeBron James. Finding the right time to rest players is a conundrum that many NBA coaches have wrestled with for years, even more so now given the ways teams have been able to apply technology to the formula and use personalized data to help their medical and athletic training staffs determine when someone simply needs a break. As James nears 50,000 minutes for his NBA career - a milestone that he'll likely reach during the upcoming playoffs - he abhors the idea of taking nights off.

Welcome to NBA trade season, already underway in earnest (Yahoo Sports)

Jahlil Okafor viewed New Orleans during All-Star weekend with a different lens than usual, since he thought there was a chance it may have been his next home. All-Star DeMarcus Cousins is changing his address from Sacramento to New Orleans, Serge Ibaka was sent last week from Orlando to Toronto - and the next few days will likely see Carmelo Anthony, Jimmy Butler, Taj Gibson, Reggie Jackson and many more all discussed by various teams. ''Here we go again,'' said Okafor, the Philadelphia 76ers forward who missed two games before the break amid looming trade speculation.

Record All-Star: Davis scores 52, West tops East 192-182 (Yahoo Sports)

Sun, 19 Feb 2017 21:36:05 PST

Anthony Davis took care of that. At the defense-free dunkfest that now serves as the NBA's All-Star Game, Davis scored a record 52 points and led the Western Conference past the Eastern Conference, 192-182 on Sunday night. It came on a night when Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant provided a glimpse of the past, Giannis Antetokounmpo had more dunks - 12 - than his name has consonants and LeBron James became the first player to eclipse 300 points in an All-Star career.
