Winter Roads and Driving: Six Important Things to Keep in Your Car in Case of Emergencies

Wed, 24 Jan 2018 04:01:00 +0000

Freak winter snowstorms can strike almost anywhere at any time. In fact, over 600,000 motorists each year get stranded in winter weather. Typically, help is only a phone call and a few minutes away. But that’s certainly not always the case. To prevent hours of discomfort or something much, much worse, we’ve compiled a list of some things that every vehicles should have during the winter months. These items should protect you in the event of an accidental breakdown, such as a dead battery, flat tire, or low fuel. However, if you or a loved one is injured because of events that are beyond your control, such as a defective product or someone else’s negligence, partner with a law firm for personal injury near you. Wireless Cell Phone Charger These devices are incredibly handy and only cost a few dollars at most local or online retailers. Most of them charge very quickly when attached to a power outlet and hold that charge almost indefinitely. Be sure and check the charger frequently, at least once a week or so, to see if it needs more juice. If you never leave the city limits, this charger might be about the only item you need. But many parts of the country are still very rural, and cell phone service is spotty at best. Other more advanced features, like GPS locators, may not work at all, especially in a heavy storm. Jumper Cables All wireless cellphone chargers are about the same, as long as they have good charging indicator lights. But the same is not true of jumper cables. A good pair of jumper cables needs to meet the following standards: ●       Length: The cables should be at least twelve feet long. Sixteen feet long is even better. Anything longer is probably overkill. ●       Connectors/Wires: These parts should be copper. This high-quality material will cost a little extra, but the investment is well worthwhile. Also, be sure the alligator clips are pressed and not soldered, because soldered connections can melt. If you’re travelling a fair distance and driving alone, it may be a good idea to put your cables in the passenger compartment instead of the trunk. Flashlight The choice is basically LED or incandescent. LED flashlights are usually long-lasting and do not rely on bulbs that can burn out; incandescent flashlights are usually a little brighter and cheaper. In an emergency situation, you can’t go wrong with either one. Fire Extinguisher Many people forget about this emergency device, but it can be the difference between a burned hose and a burned car. There are different classes of fire extinguishers for different kinds of fires (Class A for wood and other combustibles, Class B for flammable liquids and gases, Class C for electrical fires, and Class D for metal), so be sure you have the right type of fire extinguisher. Many of these devices also require some routine maintenance. Blanket There’s almost always room for a thick blanket or quilt. At the very least, it will make the wait for the tow truck much more bearable in bitter cold weather. In the summer, blankets are also good for treating accident shock victims. Food and Water As any combat veteran will attest, an MRE (Meal Ready to Eat) is no banquet. But if there is no other food and you have been stranded for several hours, it may taste like one. At least two bottles of water are a good idea as well. There’s no need to pack them in ice. Honorable mention goes to a first aid kit, the ability to change a flat, and road flares. [...]

Could Nissan Titan Pickup Trucks Be on Their Way to Australia?

Fri, 22 Dec 2017 04:41:00 +0000

If you're looking for a way to take your pickup experience to the next level in the coming years, then you might just be in luck. Recent reports suggest that the powerful Nissan Titan could be on it's way to the Australian market - ideal for those who need a strong driving solution to get their business out on the market. Known by many as the bigger, meaner version of the Nissan Navara, the Titan has been available exclusively in left-hand drive up until now - which was fine for the US market, but a nightmare for anyone who wanted to access the potential of the Titan in Australia. The good news is that Nissan recently announced it would be embarking on a plan of global expansion perfect for delivering the Titan in hundreds of countries around the world. It makes sense that Australia would be one of the targets for Nissan, given the success of thee Nissan Navara, and the company are already working on a right-hand-drive option, according to the head of light-commercial operations for Renault-Nissan, Ashwani Gupta. The Arrival of a Brand-New Truck Before you start looking for popular Ute canopies in Australia, it's worth noting that it might be a few months before the product officially arrives in Australian markets. For now, Nissan have only confirmed that they're exploring the expansion of the full-size Titan pick-up truck in markets beyond the US, so we're not sure for certain when the truck will come to Australia. For now, the primary aim of Nissan is to develop itself as the number one retailer for light-commercial vehicles. According to Gupta, this is one of the many reasons that the company decided to welcome Mitsubishi within the pre-existing Renault-Nissan Alliance during 2016. Overall, Nissan has been focusing heavily on finding new ways to improve and upgrade their access to the current marketplace, with new and improved offerings for all their customers. So far, the brand is aware that around one in four of the vehicles in the market is a light commercial vehicle, or LCV, so it's a potentially very lucrative market to excel in. The Power of the Nissan Pick-Up Over the years, Nissan has quickly emerged as one of the most competitive pick-up brands in the world. The upgraded "Titan" currently sits in a position far above the existing UTEs that sell well throughout Australia, such as thee Nissan Navara. This could mean that by bringing the Titan to Australia, Nissan can give customers access to a completely new standard of pick-up truck. So far, it's difficult to predict whether the Nissan Titan designed for Australia will have any special features to speak of. However, the US versions of the pick-up have King, Crew, and Single cab options to choose from, as well as a V8 6.5 litre engine as standard. Customers can also select a V6 option, which comes with another V8 5.0 litre engine. Nissan believes that they have a great deal of potential to take advantage of in Australia, even though their Titan programme has yet to deliver any specific results. The passion for Utes in Australia is high, so the sales opportunities are there. [...]

Thrifty DIY Car Repairs You Can Manage Yourself

Fri, 01 Dec 2017 04:09:00 +0000

Taking your car to the local auto repair center might be convenient but when you realize how much you could have saved if you had got under the hood yourself you might think twice before making that booking. Some major car repairs need some professional guidance to be done properly and safely but there are plenty of basic tasks and regular maintenance activities that you could manage by yourself, helping to cut the cost of motoring down considerably. Save money on regular maintenance and repairs You might be tempted to save as much money as possible by skipping some regular maintenance tasks and leaving repairs until something goes wrong, but that often turns out to be a false economy. Changing the oil every 7,000 miles or so is a real no-brainer. It prolongs the life of your car and the cost of your time and some new oil is nothing compared to a major engine repair. Keeping your tires properly inflated is another essential activity. It saves wear and tear and improves your car’s driving performance when your tires are at the right pressure. Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty Fear of doing something wrong can hold some people back from getting their hands dirty and tackling an auto repair job but there are many tasks that are much easier than you imagine. A classic example would be replacing the brake pads on your vehicle. You want to do it right for safety’s sake, of course, but with a wheel lug wrench, a jack, and some pliers, plus a set of brake pads and anything else that can be found here, you could spend almost ten times less compared to a typical auto repair bill, by doing the job yourself. Each new pad should be good for at least 30,000 miles, and if you follow the instruction manual for your car or an online tutorial, you will most likely wonder why you have been sending the car to the repair center all these years. Spark plugs are easy You could easily land yourself with a big repair bill if you get someone else to change the spark plugs but the cost of doing this job yourself is many times less, and not that difficult. Modern spark plugs are capable of lasting for up to 100,000 miles so you won’t have to be under the hood for this task that often. However, when you consider that the cost of buying and changing the spark plugs by yourself is only about 10% of a typical auto repair bill, it is well worth getting the spark plug wrench in your hand and following an easy set of instructions. Keeping a lid on the annual cost of motoring is a challenge but by doing regular and easy auto maintenance yourself, like replacing the oil, changing oil and air filters, windshield wiper blades, and a number of other easy tasks, you could save a decent stash of cash. Keeping it Shiny: Don't Let Scratches and Scrapes Ruin Your Paintjob

Fri, 24 Nov 2017 04:04:00 +0000

Let’s face it, your car is your pride and joy and also one of the most expensive things you own apart from your home! For that reason you want to keep it in the best condition possible, particularly if you want to sell it and upgrade in the coming years. Taking care of your car’s paintwork is really important, mainly because those little nicks and scratches you can easily collect with daily driving can sometimes become more serious issues if they corrode and rust. Of course, if you put your car in the garage and never go anywhere, you won’t have a problem but that kind of defeats the point of having a car in the first place. There are plenty of things you can do to fix minor and superficial scratches to your car’s paintwork without having to book it in to a body shop for an expensive fix! Modern cars usually have highly durable paintwork that is designed to last for years to come but it’s almost inevitable that over time, the paint will be damaged by fine scratched caused by other drivers or even by scraping something against the door accidentally while opening it. Car Scratch Removers These days there are plenty of really good and affordable products you can use to remove or conceal superficial scratched on a car’s paintwork. Most of the kits you can buy come with everything you need to remove scratches and often also contain a polisher and wax to bring your repaired scratches back to a shine to completely match the rest of your car’s paint finish. All cars are coated with several layers of paint when they are made and the layer at the top is called the clear coat. Most of the car scratch removers you can buy are only capable of removing scratches to this clear coat layer and so you need to be sure they aren’t too deep to be fixed by yourself. Here are the stages in fixing a scratch on your car: ABRASION Before you can start to fix the scratch, you have to make it worse! This is to ensure a completely smooth finish. By sanding down the scratch, you’ll remove any uneven marks caused by the incidents which will allow the color to absorb into the sanded area more effectively for an invisible finish. PRIMING Once you have used abrasive paper to prepare the surface around the scratch, the next step is priming. A primer is used to completely prepare the surface for painting and usually comes in aerosol form. Generally, you prime the surface two or three times, allowing it to dry between applications and then you can sand it down once again to get a totally smooth finish. Then you’re ready to add the color! COATING This is where you apply the pigment color to your base coat of primer. You can generally apply coating in as many applications as you need to get the desired finish and each one will seal the pigment and protective layers underneath. In between applications you can sand the surface with really fine paper of around 1,500-grit and this slowly brings the color to its original factory gloss and finishes your work with a shiny coat. RESULTS It takes a few hours – usually overnight – for your handiwork to dry and then most scratch remover kits contain a rubbing compound which brings out the shine even more. Once you have finished fixing the scratch on your car and it’s all dry, it’s a good idea to wash and wax the whole of its bodywork as this blends your touch-up work really well with the original paintwork. Ultimately, fixing annoying scratches on your car is much easier than you think! [...]

Manual or Electronic: Which Scooter is Better for Your Needs?

Thu, 16 Nov 2017 08:30:00 +0000

Are you in a dilemma on purchasing the best among the several models of scooters available? Can’t choose between manual or electric? You are not alone. The good news is that there’s a great scooter for everyone’s needs. Let’s take a look at the various features to help you make an informed decision. Manual Scooter To get scooting, propel the scooter forward using your foot. It’s similar to the traditional bicycle, but you apply effort on the ground to move. The biggest shortcoming of a manual scooter is that it might be tiring to keep on pushing forward with your feet, but it comes in handy when you want to move around and burn some calories. Where It Wins? -          Exercise No debate here. Manual scooters are the best option to get outside and exercise while having fun, or getting some cardio in your daily commute to work. -          Budget Manual scooters are cheaper and easier to maintain. There’s no expense for pushing one around town. Electric scooters are more expensive than manual, and will add an extra cost to your electricity bill. -          Practical You can do impressive tricks and jumpsif you are an adrenaline junkie. The same can’t be done on electric scooter. Electric Scooter As the name goes, electric scooters run on electricity.  You move around without using any physical vitality. They are charged when the power is low, and can easily move anywhere within a 21-mile radius. Where It Wins? -          Efficiency You can get around faster using minimal electric energy and without getting tired. It can transform a 20-minute power-walk into a five-minute ride. It also has a regenerative braking system which recoups energy, meaning that you may only plug it in for a few hours. -          Comfortable If you hate getting down and pushing forward with your feet all the time, then an electric scooter fits you pretty well. -           Versatile Electric scooters are convenient for everyone, because they don’t require much of your effort to get moving. A Look at the Similarities ·         Both scooters are eco-friendly. You won’t have to rely on cars or fossil fuels to run your every day errands. ·         Scooters are a better choice for your wallet because they are much cheaper compared to cars and motorcycles. ·         Scooters are easy to fold and carry, meaning that you don’t have to worry about parking spaces and fees. They can be folded and stowed in the trunk of your car. ·         Very convenient for travelling short distances in split time, like for pilots to get around airports or cruise patrons to see the sights on shore. Which One Will You Choose? Preferring one to the other is a personal choice depending on your factors. All scooters were designed with the aim of providing faster or easier transportation to the grocery store or subway station. Getting the right electronic scooter for adults should be a walk in the park with the above guidelines. Regardless of the scooter you are purchasing, it’s a win-win situation for your time and money. Lastly, always make sure that you buy a scooter with excellent ratings from a verified vendor and with one-year warranty or more. [...]

Prevention is Essential: Why Has Bed Liner Paint Become Such a Popular Option?

Tue, 14 Nov 2017 10:12:00 +0000

Your pickup works just as hard as you do, whether you use it for your work or outdoor leisure activities. When you’ve invested your money in any truck of any size, you’ll want to do all you can to protect your investment and make sure your pickup is always fit for the purpose. Durable bed liner paint is one of the most popular choices for maintaining and protecting the important work surface of your truck so that it endures everything you have to throw at it. By protecting your truck’s bed, you’ll always have a reliable workhorse that’s ready for even the most industrial loads and your investment will last a whole lot longer too. Truck Bed Protection Explained There are two basic options to choose from when it comes to protecting your pickup’s load-bearing bed: you can either purchase a pre-formed liner that drops into position or you can use a paint coating that offers full protection. The downside of pre-formed truck beds is that it is very difficult to get a flush, air-tight fit so you can be left with gaps in the lining. This will make your truck bed susceptible to the elements, with rain and humidity getting trapped in the small gaps in your liner which can damage the bed over time, with the potential for rust build-up. The second option of a protective coating applied in paint is much more efficient in this respect as there are no difficulties of fitting the product in place. Truck bed paints contain liquid resin which dries to become a durable second skin that always looks fresh and can even be touched-up to repair small scratches should they appear over time. Many truck owners say they get a better grip on their loads when they apply paint bed liner and that items don’t move around the bed when in transit as they are likely to do with a drop-in liner alternative. Why Your Truck Bed Needs Protection It doesn’t matter if you use your truck occasionally or every day of the week, an open truck bed is vulnerable to all sorts of damage as the result of being exposed to all types of weather from rain and snow through to intense heat and sunshine. If a truck is located near the ocean, there is even more risk of damage to an open bed, as wind carries moisture and salt in the air which causes corrosion and rust. Bed liner paint also looks really good as a finish for your truck and serves to protect the money you’ve invested into it better than any other product. Bed liner paint provides a thin coating that is anti-corrosive, abrasion resistant, non-slip, incredibly durable and importantly will not chip or peel. It’s easy to apply, with brush, roll on or spray options available and it’s also available in a range of colors for you to choose from. You can either use bed liner paint to restore an old workhorse that’s seen better days or protect your more recent pickup more effectively. Bed liner paint can also be used on as an interior coating, undercoating or as an exterior scratch guard. [...]

From Tune-Up to Repair: Things You Should Know About Vehicle Maintenance

Thu, 21 Sep 2017 16:02:00 +0000

From Tune-Up to Repair:  Things You Should Know About Vehicle Maintenance Your car is one of the most expensive purchases you’ve made and so it makes sense to ensure it’s always kept in the very best condition. By regularly undertaking your own maintenance schedule, you can prevent serious issues from developing with your vehicle and ultimately save a lot of money on repairs! Here are some maintenance checks you can do yourself, without any mechanical training: This might sound obvious but a lot of people don’t read the manufacturer’s manual for the vehicle they have and they miss out on a lot of very useful information. Your car’s manual will have information such as how frequently the oil should be changed and even what kind of oil is recommended by the manufacturer. Obviously you don’t need to read it from cover to cover but just the relevant parts to daily motoring. Carry out your own vehicle maintenance checks. You don’t have to book your car in every few months if you pay regular attention to things like tire pressure, brakes and the various fluids your car needs. If you’re planning a longer journey, take time before you set off to check that you have enough water and that all your lights are working as they should be. You can check out your own tire tread by using a small coin, which when placed into the tread should remain in place. Regularly inspect your serpentine and timing belts for deterioration and replace them if necessary, either yourself or by a mechanic. Your owner’s manual will have all the information you need to gauge when you should think about replacing your car’s belts and so you can schedule an inspection ahead of that time. If your vehicle’s belts are in good condition when you inspect them, make a note to take another look a few months down the line, depending on how often and how far you drive. Checking your car’s oil and topping up with the right kind is important for good performance. It’s important to regularly check the level using the dipstick or in newer cars, there’s often an electronic gauge instead. Usually if there’s a problem with the oil being contaminated with dust or dirt, you will notice in the way your car handles and sounds. Always get any strange engine noises checked by a qualified mechanic. An important part of your maintenance program is to check the batter and if necessary, clean the contacts. Most modern batteries don’t require the degree of maintenance as their older counterparts but it’s important that you know where to look and also how to jumpstart your vehicle should the battery ever fail. Always ensure your battery isn’t leaking and that there’s no build-up of dirt forming on the contacts. When your windshield wipers start to leave streaks or are squeaking when they move, it’s time to change them. It might seem like a trivial task but when there’s a downpour, you don’t want to be unable to see the road ahead of you for the sake of such a simple job. Don’t leave it until you can hardly see a thing, especially as wipers are easily replaceable. Regularly Maintain your Vehicle for Maximum Performance and Economy! We are specialists in vehicle maintenance and know the importance of taking care of all the small jobs so that the big repairs aren’t necessary. Sometimes, it’s inevitable that there’s something not quite right with our vehicle’s performance that we can’t figure out for ourselves. That’s when you should talk to highly qualified experts who can help you get the best value for money from your vehicle, with professional maintenance and servicing. Next gen VW Polo teased, to be unveiled on 16th June 2017

Thu, 15 Jun 2017 06:20:00 +0000

Couple of images of the much awaited next generation Volkswagen Polo 2017 has been teased before its launch on 16th of June 2017. The images show the new designed headlamps and taillamps which sync with the company’s design philosophy of kink at the edges. Being in the market for eight long years, the VW baby was badly in due for a change. Built on VW’s new MQB platform, the new Polo is bigger and bolder than the current model. This gives the car to offer improved cabin space, especially at the rear passenger compartment. Mon, 05 Jun 2017 07:08:00 +0000

Before we begin we like to remind that this is not the first time Peugeot has started testing in cars in India. As all car manufacturers do, Peugeot also tested its cars in India with the intention of launching its products for the first time in India. This time being the third, Peugeot is serious about its business in India and guess what Peugeot plans to launch its latest products in our country. Couple of cars was seen testing, the new generation 208 hatch being one of them. Being a B segment hatch the 308 offers style and substance which the French maker is always know for. Mahindra KUV 100 facelift to have cleaner design

Mon, 05 Jun 2017 06:54:00 +0000

The quirky mini SUV from Mahindra, the KUV will get a facelift soon and now with a cleaner design. It is not clear what clean design means but we believe plastic cladding on the bumper will give way for body coloured full bumper. But just with these changes the KUV might not look fresh as the side profile of the car remains the same, and to mention it is from the side the car/SUV looks like a cartoon character. The new Kwid 1.0 as it is called is powered by a more powerful 999cc 3 cylinder petrol engine with power output of 68 Ps and torque of 91 Nm. The old 799 cc petrol motor had figures of 54 Ps and 72 Nm.         The Kwid 1.0 is only available in RxT and RxT (O) trims and costs Rs. 22,000 more than Kwid 0.8L RxT trim. The bigger engine however brings the fuel efficiency low with the Kwid 1.0 delivering 23.01 Km for a liter of petrol.         The Kwid 1.0 gets black and white chequered decal with ‘1.0’ lettering on the side profile. An all new gloss grey ORVM looks fantastic on the car. Currently the Kwid 1.0 is mated to a 5 speed manual transmission but an AMT version is around the corner to be launched soon. [...]
