Best Coral Smile!

I call this Valance  "Best Coral Smile" We made the valance  to mimic a relaxed Roman shade for a little girls room.  The drop in the center seems to just smile at you.  It's such a Happy  window covering.
The relaxed Roman valance requires very little fabric.  You can actually get by with 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 yards.  Give us a call 703-551-2929 to take a look at our remnants and bring a smile to your room.

The Drapery Shop with Stanley Martin Homes

The Drapery Shop had the pleaser of partnering with Stanley Martin Homes.  We created all of the lovely window coverings in their Lindsey single family home model, Bradlee Square, Manassas VA.In the morning room we used a navy, aqua and white paisley from Premier Prints.I just love the perfect pleating! The study pictured below is calming and comfy with mint and white fabric and paint. The family room drapery are ivory with cobalt bandings[...]

A Master at Drapery Installs

Our master installer is also our master drapery maker

Here Chris is adding extra support to ripple fold ceiling tracks.
Quite often Chris will run through and hang the rods and I'll be on an additional ladder hanging the drapery as he moves on to the next window.

We install 90% of the window coverings we make.

Relaxed Roman Shade, only 1 1/2 yards of fabric required. Give us a call if you'd like to see our remnants and end of bolt pieces. 703-551-2929

Oh yes, and just a little bit of trim for the bottom of the shade.

Belgium Linen Drapery Panels

I love the way this rod travels around the room seamlessly but the less than perfect finish on the imported linen troubled me a bit.

Belgium linen has to be handled very carefully.  It seems as though it will wrinkle out of spite just because you LOOK at it.  Ugh!
I've since learned that clients expect the imperfect finish and they like a little wrinkling.

Turban Swags

Fully Operable Relaxed Roman Shades

We made these whimsical
paisley shades to go up and down at your whim...
Another great project in partnership with interior designer Sherry Tyra of CHIC Interiors.

Speckled Sheers and Flat Rods

The Silk Fabric and Speckled Sheer are from Kravet.  The rod is Select.  Give us a call if you are interested.  We'd love to make your drapery as well as supply  the fabric and rods if needed.

Choose the Right Lining for Silk Drapery Panels

We used a simple lining and inter-lining to allow these silk panels to stack-back tightly when opened

but we had a different objective for the panel below.
Here we wanted to create soft, uniform pleating.

The secret to getting softly rounded folds is choosing the right lining.  You won't have the same results by using the typical lining and inter-lining commonly used with soft silks.

A 2-Story Master

Our lead installer is a master at 2 story installs.   Often the rods need to be cut to size before the climbing begins. Notice how the ceiling in this master bedroom has varying heights? We mounted the drapery so that the rods appear at the same height when looking up from the floor.Let's remove the ladder and...  Finally the job is completed!  I love the way the linen pleats cascade softly from the rod to the floor. This room's 16 ft walls would have been cold and harsh without the talent of Interiors by Meryem and the seamstress' and install team from The Drapery Shop.Thank you for taking a moment to view our blog.  Hope to hear from you soon.[...]

The Perfect Pleat on Zip Rods

I love the way we are able to bend the rules a bit and bring new life to old design concepts.

Here we've created the Perfect Pleat on dark Wood Zip rods.   The drapes are able to move along the bottom of the rod without the use of rings.

Great Reviews

After creating these color blocked drapery for a client in Fairfax, VA she emailed, “Thanks again for the wonderful job on the drapes!  I absolutely love them.  Now the room is complete.  On a scale of 1 - 10 as to how happy I am with the drapes I’m at  15.”[...]

Here We Go Again... Higher and Higher

Sometimes I can't believe the places I end Up.
Psalm Francisco Interior Designs hired us to construct the grommet drapery for this project.
Look, somebody's got to do it and somebody's got to watch...  LoL

Zip Rods

Zip Rods allow you to have fully functioning panels on decorative  drapery rods without the busyness and clutter of rings.

Notice the difference?
The picture below shows the drapery on a wood pole with rings.
Really it's a matter of personal preference.  Both rod styles function well and with both styles there are limitless wood and metal finishes.

Custom Slumber

We had an upholster build and cover this pretty headboard.
The Flanged shams are one of our designer favorites.
It seems to be difficult for clients to find bedding they really like,
so we get many request for custom bedding.

I love the Custom Shams and Bedspreads we make.

Our workroom and install team are the "Best"

We used a 24 foot extension ladder to install these panels in this marvelous McLean VA home.  The ladder in the photo was used by one of our team members to hold the heavy panels while the guy 20 feet up secured them at the ceiling.

This home is very impressive. The wing back chairs are 6 feet tall.
Interior designer Ginger Rodriguez,  owner of WestBay Interiors   hired us to make and install the super long drapery panels.

Here's the view from the upper level of the home.

Our design team also serves as consultants for interior designers.  We help work through the details and find the best solutions.

Banded Linen Roman Shade

Shaped Kitchen Cornice

We built, upholstered and installed this kitchen cornice for interior designer Sherry Tyra of CHIC Interiors.
It fits perfectly between the kitchen cabinets with not an inch for mistakes.

The Drapery Shop is happy to provide services to both design professionals and homeowners.

Roman Shade on Rings? Very Clever...

On the other side of the room we installed pleated panels on a larger window.  The home owner wanted a Roman Shade on the smaller.  She later came up with an idea to have us add the same rod and rings over the Roman.  Very Clever,

Roman Shades - Details Details Details

It's important to consider the architectural details in the room when customizing Roman Shades.  There are  many layers to this window casing and crown molding.  Whether to mount the shade inside or outside of the casing is only 1 of many assessments I had to make.

Heights and Lengths

When you're self employed you often have to be willing to climb heights and go to lengths that others refuse. You stretch and you grow and both you and your customers win because of your extra efforts.
