The First Sunny Sky

Mon, 07 Sep 2009 22:16:22 PDT

This is the song I should have turned in for the Secret Mixer. But I started this the day before the deadline and couldn't get past the piano section. You can consider it a remix of Smile (For A Bit) since they share musical similarities. Except for the string section and the (what I consider) tropical feel to this song, of course. The full title of this song is 'The First Sunny Sky (In A Long Time).' I hope you enjoy it.

Sweet Magnolia (street handout mix)

Thu, 27 Aug 2009 15:39:30 PDT

Sweet Magnolia (street handout mix) I've got my New Orleans street orchestra back with me and we are playing for tips on Jackson Square. Stefsax is playing along too, but behind him is this cobbled-stone alleyway. The rest of the band is playing in front of a big plate glass window next to an outdoor cafe. At a table is a woman in her 30s who is being hit up by a street-wise riff-spouter. He's funny but he doesn't have a chance. The song is about a man and a woman sitting under a magnolia tree in Audubon Park, a famous New Orleans park not far from Jackson Square. The tree is in bloom and its fragrance is everywhere. Though the young lady sitting under the tree, this "Sweet Magnolia," is young, she is astute enough to know that what's being said to her by the very charming and handsome stranger is 89% B.S. And she really doesn't mind one bit. Imagine Leon Redbone singing this one.

Vidian is one of my favorite Mixters and I was thrilled by my assignment (although scared). I listened through nearly every remix, and Dark Realm Winter Harvest and its violin track by Dimitri Artemenko said "pick me"! I totally revamped an old song sketch of mine "The Hermit" written about this character in the Tarot Deck - for he is Persephone's guide through the Dark Realm of Winter and it seemed fitting. This was my first remix, ever. I felt so lucky to have been paired with Vidian! I've uploaded the lead and back vox, piano and loop stems as well. Persephone He held the lantern Whispered my name Swallowed the butterflies As they flew to the flame I can feel it burning Feel it burning Feel it burning low Her Soul in hiding Of power afraid A galaxy turning Stardust remade I can feel it burning Feel it burning Feel it burning low I can feel it burning Feel it burning Feel it burning low This heart of mine Outside of time This heart of mine Open wide This heart of mine Outside of time This heart of mine Open wide This heart of mine Outside of time This heart of mine Open wide I can feel it burning Feel it burning Low

cold wood stove blues (balsa boy mix)

I love this vocal. Stuck in the wrong country away from some of my instruments for now, so slightly more electronic than I'd wanted, and a little unfinished, but best I could do in the time. The song deserves more and better. Salt shaker and aspirin-based percussion in this one...

There's something wrong (in Robot City)

I added a new atmosphere to There's Something Wrong, by Brad Sucks. I kept the tempo and the awesome chords, but added some cool guitar and changed the voice to a singing robot. Brad, you do not suck! But I made it a little better ;)

Rodeos of North Hollywood

Simple, short spaghetti western guitar piece in E flat. 5ths in the bass. Reminiscent of something I've probably heard before, but not sure what part of my subconscious I revisited.
