Wow! It happened many months ago but really impresses me your picture! And that image is true the saying, "A picture says a thousand words"

Thanks, Rob :)

Yes, this is great stuff, Royston - a fun idea and I think you did a nice job with it. I particularly like the idea for the caption/lettering panel - clever stuff.

Thank you :)

Great job, Royston! People can still be heard airing their opinions on the promenade! :-)

Surely not! I've no plans to get into live caricaturing at events, parties etc like you do, Simon. The good thing about this job was that I could do preliminary roughs beforehand ;)

Aaagghh! I'm off to the JobCentre!

Really? I liked it at the time but it sounds like I was trying to be too clever to me now. Simplifying things is often the best way. Larry certainly knew that. Many a time I've come up with a gag with lots of extra words and visual details, and the more you throw out the better it gets.

I much prefer the 'disaffected malaise' line.

I've often struggled when I know what the cartoon is meant to say, but I don't know the best way to say it.
Larry had the right idea- no caption.

I do enjoy his writing, but yes, the need to have a dictionary to hand is a bit off-putting! It's probably the reason I haven't tackled one of his novels yet.

I always had to have a dictionary nearby whenever reading a newspaper column by Will Self. Nowadays, with the advent of computers, I just don't bother reading his stuff...

Interesting stuff, Cathy, thanks. Yes, I think Duchamp pretty much introduced the idea of directly, er, "appropriating" stuff. But I was hedging my bets with "if not before", just in case ;)

Not just common in the art world before Duchamp, but standard practice. For example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Battle_of_Anghiari_(painting),

(It was the cartoon the plagiarists used, of course!)
