Thanks for your post. At some points we share the same doubts, fears, feelings about the every-day-animatior job. That´s the reason i start AM 2010. I was animating for about 3-4 years and i am at the same point that you described before AM.

I am already on to tweaking it.

Cheers!

Hope you don't mind if I point out a few things :)

1st dialogue shot-
The body feels stiff - I don't feel it moves fluidly/organically. Maybe some overlaps in the spine, neck/head, arms etc. will help.

last shot (dialogue):
I feel like there are way too many hand gestures. It seems like the hand movements made by the guy (after "we should date!") are somewhat redundant. I would focus more animation on the facial expressions and the shoulder. You can have some subtle hand animation where it is resting but the fingers move a little showing the related gesture.

The kick shot works well in my opinion.

If you don't already do this, it's a good idea to shoot yourself while you're acting the shot. Most of the time, the acting will be a bit overdone. You could ask another person to deliver the dialogue or perform an act rather than "acting" because the moment it feels like a pretense there's a tendency to behave artificially.

These are observations from my own experience while animating, so I thought I should share them.
I hope you don't think i'm being too nitpicky or harsh.

I still have to animate a dialogue shot myself, so when I do that, you can nitpick the hell out of it! :)

Hey dude. Keep up the good work. All the best for the AM assignments. I am interested in learning animation too. It is great that you post your experiences so that many others like me would learn alot from ya.

Thanks and keep it coming,

Darvinder

2009-09-29T10:47:05.786+05:30

Hey, interesting idea. I just feel like the guy is pulling so much, but with all that energy he is using he would fall down if the object broke off. If he was not pulling that much, then it would look believable that he caught himself in time.
Also, he does the smelling action before the food is even ready. I think it would read better if we first here the buzzer indicating that the food is ready and then have him smelling the air like it's good.

When he falls back, I think the timing should be faster, again because of the force.
I like the idea of the goofy character trying to pry open the microwave.
Would love to see more!

cool stuff... the quicktime window is a little bigger than the frame of the blog. I am unable to see the frame counter on the side, because of that.

Ani, looks really good. I haven't had the chance to do an animation like this. I usually have cues or something like that.

One of my only critiques would be at about 2 seconds he raises himself on his toes it looks like, while he's waiting. Instead, you may want to have him tap his foot a few times as if he's impatiently waiting for his food to cook. Just a thought.

Overall though, nice animation. A bit more tweaking and it'll be really strong!

@Maulik - Yes I have heard of Vipassana, but not many people will be willing or will have time to do this since its a 10 day course and it may not be available in their region.

I wanted to share something, which is more shorter and immediate remedy for at least short term. And once you do something regular, it become long term.

I have myself experienced that asking the questions mentioned above, I am able to think in a different perspective and my anger is tamed to a considerable extent.

Have you heard of Vipassana? It's a form of meditation technique. It talks about being aware of your inside so that you are aware of feelings before they surface. And for anger this is very important. I am no expert but I attended their one 10 day course and it helped me.
