Hey David,
Thank you for the kind words - we're working hard to create a dead-simple way of aggregating & applying user feedback, so it's nice to see others are getting it!

Look forward to showing you more of our "awesome"-ness in the very near future! :)

Wow Gayle - thanks for that. I didn't know they actually went and changed their mistake. My guess is they didn't want to change the 'cerebellum' part because it would seem too obvious they acknowledged their goof-up, but I guess that 'mint for the cerebellum' really doesn't make up for it either...at any rate, the slogan sucks.

On a side note, I also like how you said 'sweet is mine'. A most worthy idiom right there.

...what made it more personal to me is I was a poster, SARAH BELLUM, on a NBC website and was banned that same week by a bunch of rogue haychewers so to see this ad before the CA Finale was... a slap to their cerebellum....LOL...sweet is mine...

David, I seen the ad just last week on TV, was amended to say 'a mint for the cerebellum'......so I think they removed the 'slap' for more sensitive viewers or folks who do not know their own brain?

Great fun with logos and marketing by Altoids

Conclusion: Cerebellum = wrong. The correct part of the brain is Cerebrum.

That will have the execs at BBDO slapping their cerebrums, because this is the new platform signature replacing the "curiously strong" slogan.

A worthy question. I've done my little research:

Unfortunately< I am a little dense (besides being a physician). Should'nt it be cerebrum rather than cerebellum?

You have to distinguish content from media. My point was more about the media itself, rather than what messages are being said.
Internet as a media isn't a "push" media, it's a "pull" media. You start with a blank page and decide where you want to go. TV feeds you content and decides what you watch, short of flipping through channels. While there can be "nothing on TV tonite", there can never be "Nothing on the net tonite". Because you have this power to choose.

"Don't believe everything you see" is right, but what's more, Internet as a media allows you to make your own opinion. You have the possibility to get a second opinion about any content from any website if you perform a deeper search on the matter. You can choose what to believe and make informed choices - you are not force-fed.

Where TV pushes content, Internet pulls users. There's a huge difference involved.

2008-03-14T10:56:00.000-04:00

"The Internet doesn't try to convince you, or push its content."

That's absurd. Every tin can commentator on the Internet is trying to tell you what to think. Just go to youtube and look at all the propaganda spewed by people telling you they are experts in immunizations for instance. Never mind that none of them are Doctors or Scientists.

"Don't believe everything you see" is the only way to protect yourself from charlatans - be they TV or Internet based.

I just finished watching the entire movie last - great film. The dream sequence is so clearly Dali. Too bad the special effects of the time were so primitive. Peck and Bergman made for a handsome couple.

2008-01-24T08:24:00.000-05:00

This smells like a classic "no-budget-but-awardable" creative that was paid out-of-pocket by the agency for an "open-minded" client, and dropped in random magazines without any real strategy -- for the sake of having something to present at Cannes.
While this happens often in agencies, I guess this one iteration is just a poor judgement call right there, one I believe Ogilvy will not make again soon.

Not only does this prove that a bad ad can outlive its intended existence and harm a brand long -term, but it also proves that the web is a much more powerful "reach" media than agency media buyers will agree. This dog ad probably made front row of all blogs and forums in the talk-osphere. Just imagine if Ogilvy actually had came up with a great ad...

2008-01-23T11:19:00.000-05:00

Exit Shoes is surprised that people are still flooding them with complaints but that's the persistence of the internet. They said they fired Ogilvy over this.

Looks like they misread this "select crowd". Some of us artistic, eccentric folks draw the line at buying shoes from people that don't fire an agency a whole lot sooner when it comes up with this stuff.

2008-01-22T17:15:00.000-05:00

Also to answer your question, there are more advertising contests out there that award creativity, than those who actually salute sales performance.
There should certainly be one which mixes both.
