Comment on Traveller…the skill based OD&D by Geoffrey

Even the 3rd Imperium was always left rather vague, at least until GURPS came along with more details. Personally I don't see any problems just introducing whatever I want technologywise to get exactly what I want out of the game. What people really are complaining about in that respect is either the computers (which were too big in the first edition) or the weapons. And guess what, they complained about the weapons ever since the game got published first. Because projectile weapons are not scifi enough for a lot of people I guess. As long as it doesn't go ZING they don't like it in their future.

Odd, I have played in several ST games and the fact that the PCs are part of starship crew under orders always seemed to make the adventures more direct and engaging (no "you meet in a tavern" moments for example).

Well you got imho one of the best trek stories to work with. The other one i think could work is First Contact, another fav of mine

That's interesting. Based on the feel and layout of the show I wouldn't be surprised if it came out of a Traveller game.

I don't have a source handy for this, but I remember reading that the inspiration for Firefly was Whedon's Traveller campaign. If true, the series was put together at the gaming table.

Tim, I sent you the revised edition. So you might want to jump to that. I think the first edition was good, I think we've made it better with the makeover. It never fails that you don't see what you did wrong till you get away from the project for a little while. We took some criticism for some stuff in the first edition (even though we got solid ratings) and some of it I felt was valid so we went ahead and improved what we could without going to a full on 2nd edition. I hope you enjoy the book! Mike Cross Terra/Sol Games

Mike: I actually own the Twilight Sector setting and I'm about twenty pages into the book at the moment. I've been sidetracked with professional obligations for the last month but I hope to have it finished and reviewed by the first of September.

At the risk of sounding totally pimptastic might I suggest you check out the Twilight Sector setting from none other than Terra/Sol Games. Available at DriveThroughRPG and through our distributor Studio 2. If nothing else there's a lot of stuff to steal there for your home brew campaigns. Thats what I always do! Thanks.
