Thanks for sharing that, Terrill. I remember you telling me that story at the bar at Musso & Frank -- which is quite possibly the best place to hear that story.

I met Jim Cameron right around this time. I was in Lenny Shapiro's office (where I was developing a movie called WILD THING). I see this guy come into the building carrying a big painting. It was a beautiful piece of art he had done for Lenny for the flyer of a movie called "THE RETURNING." I go over to him and start talking about it and he tells me he painted it for $500. I couldn't believe it. Then he shows me the flyer for PIRANHA 2: THE SPAWNING and he says he painted that, too. Then he tells me he also directed the movie. I'm getting more impressed. I say, "What are you up to now?" He says he just directed a movie called THE TERMINATOR and he's doing reshoots the following weekend. He is also writing the sequels to FIRST BLOOD and ALIEN simultaneously (he had not been hired to direct ALIENS yet). I am now flabbergasted. I say to him, "You're writing the sequels to two of the biggest hits in recent years and directing your second movie and you still think you need to paint posters for Lenny for $500?"

Cameron says, "Gotta eat."

This is a true story. Jim's GOT to be the hardest working man in Showbiz (now that James Brown is gone).

That's pretty damn amazing, considering that two of those movies were classics and the third was a one of the better action flicks of the 80s.

I remember hearing this story years ago. My favorite bit was that Cameron also "scored" each script, playing certain pieces of music when he wrote to put him in the right frame of mind.

I miss the days when James Cameron was John Carpenter the next generation.
