I for one had no idea of the time and skill involved in an producing SEM image. Thanks for the explanation.

Thanks for this article Dave. Arranging mites on the stub must be amazingly difficult. It is a lot of work, but the resulting images are amazing. I am sure that many people will be surprised at just how labour-intensive the SEM process and your image manipulation is. I foresee a popular (and lucrative) mite calender to compete with kittens and tree frogs...

Holy crap - I appreciate it! Hopefully the time involved means images of this quality are relatively rare, and commensurately valuable. They may be used to teach mite students long after you're gone. To make a lasting contribution to human knowledge is all that we can ask.
