Sorry I missed the poll recently - I would definitely vote for garden/house as I'm usually home in the office with windows looking out at the "patch". Right now the robins are here in huge flocks stripping the cotoneaster & myrtle that are full of berries. Very distracting when I'm trying to work.

OH, also sorry you're feeling poorly & having to deal with a 2 year old. She is adorable but probably not so much when screaming in the mud.

Gavin took the words right out of my mouth. Although you probably know as you have older children. Our son is 3 and he had almost the exact same fit today (and variations on it all this past weekend), so it was actually deeply relieving to read this post. You know, a compatriot in suffering.

I just started to defend myself by arguing that I am not a "filthy twitcher" but then I had to look up "twitcher" (first things first) and it didn't mean quite what I thought--so maybe I am. What I mean is, when birding regularly I almost never took trips just to see rarities or accidentals. And it bothered me to see people take a lot of resources to go to some remote island to check off #7000 or whatever. However, I do really enjoy going to places very different from my home and seeing the birds that lived there: it didn't matter if they were common, as they were new to me.

Garden/house was actually my second pick though. I take almost as much pleasure in the uncommon birds I've seen there as the *really* uncommon ones I'd seen in more exotic locales.

Ha! It's only just beginning!

[Please excuse the above - a cynical parent leaped in and hijacked the keyboard]
