Thanks for the compliments, Breanna. I shot all of these with a Canon 500 f4 lens, hand-held on a Canon 1DX body. I had been out all day twice before and never saw a whale leave the surface. The 3rd trip was a charm. Good luck on your trip.

These are amazing! That must have been an exciting day. I'm going whale watching in Alaska next week & found your page when googling which lens I should rent for the trip. (I'm new to photography & only have the 18-55 kit lens & a 50mm that I know won't cut it.) Which lens did you use for this & the bear photos? Thanks! ~breanna

Wow I wonder what the fish was thinking as it was going down inside the Anhinga and how long it was alive inside there.

Imagine being that fish sliding down alive.

That is insane! I hope I can get a shot of the ISS sith my Sigma 150-500mmlens with a 2x teleconverter. That would make a 1000mm focal length. Haven't figured out exactly at what time I am supposed to check for it, but I will when I will make the time for it.

2014-01-13T20:21:23.924-05:00

I came in here to read up on Dungeness on Cumberland Island, as I had been there once on Thanksgiving Day in November 1982 before I went into the United States Navy. I rode down the East Coast on my parent's sail boat from North Carolina. I was so impressed with Cumberland Island. Now I live just south of there in Saint Augustine, Florida. I hope to make it back up to Cumberland this coming summer for at least a day. I remember my visit as if it were yesterday. The roof over the pool house was in the process of caving in on the north side. I remember thinking how I wished that the Park Service would fix it, as I was seeing history being demolished over time before my very eyes.

I'm very sorry to see what happened to your Church. God's plans are often unexplained, but it looks like your new Sanctuary is absolutely beautiful. I would have to say that the Architect did a fine job on the new design. The pipe organ is stunning. I was not aware that anyone even made them in this day and age. I'm glad that it's a craft that's not gone away. I look forward to looking through you posted photography.

It is my understanding that the Park Service is restoring Dungeness to it's former glory. I certainly hope that's the case. Even the ruins back in 1982 were impressive, but it'd be nicer to see the entire house as it once stood. Its my understanding that the house was burned by prohibitionist, but I've got to say, I find that kind of hard to imagine considering the timeline.

Take care.

When I ultimately make a trip to Alaska, Tim, I would greatly appreciate your company and acquired skills. It was great patience on your part to capture the eagle as you had anticipated, ultimately rewarding you so well. I am in the habit of adjusting exposure bias on the fly which occasionally produces a fewer number of keepers. Your wildlife images of the bears, whale, and other creatures presented at your Pbase site from your 2013 Alaska adventure are no less than stunning, as always.
